If we needed a defensive midfielder then yes, but we need an all rounder who can play both defensive and the attacking role, because he will only be back up to Morgan and Hammond.

Talk about being pedantic. You were harping on earlier Reading had nothing to do with it until Ken Tone and myself corrected everyone. Going by that it sounds like it was the club's option to extend the contract and not the player's. If that is true and we want him in the summer we'll have to go through the transfer process.

Fair doos I remember he had some good reviews when he started away at Derby but then had a shocker of a half at home to Blackpool and wasn't really seen since. That's what can happen when youngsters are thrown in at the deep end. Next season is a big season for Pardew and the club and I'm sure they aren't going to be blooding in new youngsters too often. I do think, if he is scoring every week for the U18s and reserves, that he should be given some sort of chance to prove himself though and he might get that in pre-season friendlies and cup competitions next year if we are going to focus 100% on the league. Just needs to be patient until we are out of this league and building in the Championship I think. That's when Pards might try and get some academy players to step up into the squad.

Wotton has another year on his contract so may be hard to ship him out. He'll want to stay, that's for sure.

I guess we'd be speaking to them to persuade them not to offer a contract, or to agree a fee.

I realise that, which is why I was the person to explain why we would be trying to talk Reading out of the contract offer. Sometimes you hope other posters can just take a comment with a pinch of salt (hence the big smiley at the end of it) rather than analyse it.

Lambert should win League 1 player of the season, not just Southampton player of the season. He's scored over 30 goals!

Tis a good point and Pards has done very well to make that the only position we lack quality depth in the short time he's been here. If we can sign someone like Brian Stock, who could do the enforcer role of Hammond or the creative role of Morgan, then that would be fantastic. Signing someone like Danns would be fine but what happens when Hammond is injured? Morgan and Danns? Can't see that myself. Wotton will be here next season so he will unfortunately still come into the equation whoever is signed.
