  1. And if he parries back out to you then he’s no good...
  2. It’s like punch in the balls or kick in the balls. You want to ask some questions. Can you take a run up? Shoes on or off,
  3. Hope Ralph is reading this thread!
  4. Is that Perth, Ontario? Those same gals are from Ottawa on my browser.
  5. Next week tune in as our our resident Ross Kemp lookalike tackles world hunger....
  6. *grandpa Simpson enters and exits burlesque club gif*
  7. For the last 2-3 season Bertrand was an absolute shadow of his former self. Rarely burst forward to whip in a cross. Defended really poorly. Did that, “I’ll just wait ages to take a throw in while the other team gets organized and then just throw it to them” thing. Generally just strolled about with a strop on.
  8. Adam and Adams up top!
  9. Agreed, a new goalie, Fraser on the bench and Alex gone would do wonders to our ability to keep the ball out of our net.
  10. Why do you keep writing “bud” instead of “bid”? With your bigging up of Pompey’s organisation and embarrassing yourself in thread after thread. Perhaps you are not ready for the start of the season...
  11. Oh the irony...
  12. I have very fond memories of Colin Clarke. When I was a kid I was lucky enough to be the away mascot at St James’ park when we took on Newcastle in 1987. Team had the likes of Bond, Cockerill, Townsend, Danny and Rod Wallace, Clarke, Flowers etc. I got to chat with the players before the game. Townsend was an absolute psycho in the dressing room, all hyped up screaming and shouting about getting stuck in and stopping Glenn Roeder at all costs...lol. When we got out onto the pitch I was a bit overawed by the occasion (big crowd, still terraces in those days) and froze a bit. Colin noticed and came over with a ball so that we could pass to each other while he warmed up. Such a gent! He scored that day but unfortunately I didn't bring the team enough luck, lost 2-1 (see highlights in Midfield General’s post above). I did get to meet a very young Gazza and Mirandina, a Brazilian Newcastle had signed that season.

  14. Hope we get it right.
  15. Do you have that little rectangular symbol on your avatar like Whitey? Click on that should allow you to upload new avatar.
  16. Hmm. I think our EPL quality players are: KWP, Vest, JWP, Armstrong and Romeu. Maybe Adams.
  17. That’s all we can do. Tell you what, we can open up a “predictions with an imaginary squad” thread for you and we can all wax lyrical about the tandem of Eduardo and Armstrobg blasting us into the top 6!
  18. Jesus those first 5 fixtures!?! I think well need to hopecwe can somehow grind out a couple of draws out of that lot. Zero points and a couple of spankings seems likely. The club has the air of a beaten dog right now, head down just trying to avoid the inevitable thrashings.
  19. Who agreed on that? Where is it posted that we won’t sign anyone else? Most people looking at it objectively. Since the Liverpool win we’ve been abject and relegation form, all that’s changed since then is: Bertrand and Ings gone, Perraud and Livremento in. JWP injured, Vestergaard still on holiday and Shane Long is back? Forgive us for not thinking we’ll get off to a storming start.
  20. I think the default is to be slightly apprehensive, pessimistic and hope that somehow we are much better. It comes from the pain of being optimistic and having it blow up in your face. We all want Saints to win but it feels like we are going to need to weather the storm a bit until we can undo the mistakes that Reed and Kruger made. Time will tell.
  21. Ah but then you need to subtract the goals that Bertrand caused and also add in ones that he could have got assist on if he could be arsed to run down the wing...
  22. I desperately want to be optimistic but I feel that we will be this season’s Sheff Utd. After the Liverpool win in January we have been awful. Since then we’ve only got weaker and not addressed our problems. So many of our defeats are similar. No attacking threat and full of mistakes at the back. If you look back at the goals we conceded last season, about 70% of them, the replay starts with us on the ball. Hoping that somehow 3 sides are worse than us and/or we get in some inspired signings. I’ve been wrong many times so maybe they’ll surprise me but it looks a bit gloomy right now.
  23. No one really reacted like that. A few are concerned about how weak the defence/GK are, how thin we are up top and the increased pressure on the mids to play flawlessly to prop up our defence and attack. The short bench experiment was a bit odd IMO. Hopefully we get a couple more in the squad between now and next weekend and that the team that starts is stronger than the one we saw today.
