  1. That's what I thought, a winger gets to the byeline and pulls the ball back across the box (or at least he does in theory) this invariably involves going past defenders, either by pace or by guile or a combination of the two.Lallana obviously isn't a winger, he's a forward midfielder but he really needs to step up into the "meneur du jeu" or playmaker role at sometime soon because that's what we're missing, you can't play 4-4-2 without a playmaker because the system needs a relayer and a ball winner as well.If you only have 1 real winger, in our case at this time Ox (who may be able to step into the playmaker role more easily than Lallana--my opinion only of course but it looked like that was what he was doing in the Utd game) he can change sides from time to time.
  2. Don't you need pace to be a real winger? This is why so many wide players are now playing on the wrong side, they don't have the pace to go past their man on the same side so their "wrong footedness" allows them to cut inside more easily.Real wingers have electrifying pace, like Ox and Theo.
  3. Except a mid-range striker from Doncaster of course.
  4. Ricketts,Rivas,Riise yep I can definitely see a pattern emerging there,we're building up to Rivaldo.....wait up isn't he about a hundred and four now?sign him up experience that's what you need.
  5. I hadn't even noticed that the place is dying actually, then again as I've another month in the back of beyond I guess I miss a lot of the slow forum death process because I just can't get Satellite Access all the time.
  6. About 85% of those who don't have a degree in Media Studies.........by the by what is Media Studies exactly, is it reading the papers and watching TV?
  7. And in the UK 50% of those have at least a University First Degree for which they indebted themselves to the tune of 50 or 60K £.
  8. Deppo was a master of "esprit"? Must have missed that then. I thought he was boringly stereotyped but as I never bothered to read his posts anyway I'd admit to the possibility of having missed some witty nugget or other at some time.
  9. well yes but Cahill,Gervinho and Samba are real players, players that they need to get back amongst the real front runners, the signing of a boy wonder probably isn't very high on Wenger's list of priorities just now especially if it's a "done deal" which leaves nothing to be done.
  10. thing is Pat the piece in question had already appeared in the rumours thread about an hour earlier, perhaps you didn't notice that eh, so it was just repetition.
  11. although it was probably more amusing the first time it was put up in the rumours thread eh.
  12. In fact very few of our players haven't played at Championship level,of those who have I suppose Morgan and Adam have played the least games at that level. The big,big question mark for me is our attack,3 neophytes (although Guly has played in Serie A so I guess that's at least equivalent) and then there's the question of Ox.
  13. the trouble is that until we actually start playing in the NPC we don't have much idea as to how the players we do have are going to perform. A few might be not quite so good as we imagine and a few may surprise us.So who to replace right now is a bit of a conundrum, I'd say we can't go far wrong in signing a striker and a CB right now but a CB doesn't seem to be much of a priority if you only listen to the rumours.
  14. I don't know enough about him to rate him highly or not, just another average NPC player who scores the odd goal as far as I'm concerned. Strange how we have all these experts on a player most of them can't have seen more than once or twice.
  15. Could be but won't be, he'll get a smacked wrist,a fine and maybe just maybe a bit of community.
  16. I see many assertions here that our boys would have done so much better. You can't possibly know that really. Ox and Lallana have no real experience outside of the 3rd tier of English football, true Lallana played about 35 CCC games for us but he was often pretty hopeless and scored only 1 league goal in our relegation season. Next season when they start to encounter some relatively decent opposition we'll be able to see whether they have the class we all think they do.
  17. don't need to be, the accounts were submitted to companies house and someone obtained them and posted them on this very forum. They showed losses much as described by STScott and some hefty debts which most wll deny us having of course.
  18. well isn't that what managers and first team coaches get handsome stipends to be able to resolve?
  19. West Ham?? well you can probably get 10 Kevin Nolan's for the price of 1 Scott Parker and on a lesser salary as well.Losing loan players like Keane and Bridge will lighten their salary mass enormously and for all they contributed last season one will probably hardly notice the difference at the end of the day.West Ham are going to be major players in the NPC and compared to eventual sales and reduced salaries their actual spending is negligeable.
  20. Assists mean nothing much anyway. Just because a player puts in the last pass (or even knocks it in the net from 1 yard) it doesn't really mean that it's any more valuable than any other part of the action that led to the goal.Individually created goals are rare enough and sometimes the really decisive action in a goal movement was about 3 or 4 steps back in the chain, like a superb pass out of defensive or a midfielder covering 20 yards and robbing an opponent of the ball to put his team away against the run of play.Assists is just an American term probably imported from Ice Hockey or Basketball or something.
  21. Another loan move is about the best we can hope for I'd think.Everybody seems to know his situation with us and I really don't see anyone being wiling to pay us a lot of money for a player they know we don't want. I'd be happy enough to see him back in the group anyway, probably just as good as a lot of the players that are always getting mentioned in he rumour thread.Did he not score more goals than Danns at an equal or higher level last season,in less games?
  22. Ankergren is probably the better keeper of the 2. Never understood why they let him go so easily and preferred Schmeichel.
  23. Well not in the UK no, but in France kids up to U11 play across half of a normal pitch with folding goals (a bit smaller than yer regulation size goal) half way up half of the side line. Debutants (U7) play only on stabilised pitches 7 a side, poussins U9 the same,benjamins(U11) play 9 a side mostly on stabilised pitches but sometimes on grass and then the U13 graduate to a full size pitch and 11 a side. Games are of course shorter and I think the full 90 minutes only kicks in at about U17.
  24. Who said they were shysters? perhaps the bent halfpenny idiom fooled you, agents are there to be intermediates in transactions they don't as a rule pick and choose who they deal with that's all.Facilitating transactions is for gain is what they do. A bent halfpenny denotes something of little value but better than nothing, not something criminal or crooked;whereas bent as a nine bob note means something false or counterfeit.
  25. Agents will deal with anyone and anything they can make a bent halfpenny from.
