  1. Accumulate money ? We seem to spend roughly what we receive and our owner doesn't have enough to give us any more. The fans always want us to keep our top players and yet spend the kind of sum we would in theory receive for them. As I said yesterday we are what we are, 8th in the PL. We made 6th because we had a pretty good season and Chelsea and Liverpool screwed up completely. In today's football to make the very top your owner needs a lot of money and the will to spend it on the club. When we get that we'll be top 6 candidates, until then............ We could have made Europe by winning the League Cup but we came up against a top, top side in the final and didn't quite make it.
  2. So, they can afford it, 104 million from the PL last season plus somewhere in the region of 90 million parachute payments if they don't get back up. They've made a few sales as well and had a couple of loaners that they won't have to pay in the Championship. Transfers between UK clubs are also at a premium just now because of the rapid fall in the value of the humble pound sterling. Probably down about 14% on this time last year; Makes your average Spanish striker at 10 million euros a bit expensive.
  3. So Arsenal are thinking about a bid for VvD then, expect that'll be turning up in about 5 years then.
  4. Think they've already started, didn't they play Linfield last week and are due to play them again this week ?
  5. Hasn't Reed gone out on loan already? Norwich I think.
  6. Depends how much it will cost them really.
  7. oh my, however did we finish 8th last season then if we are missing 3 quality players. We could spend 60 or 70 million on the positions you say, we probably wouldn't finish any higher in the league though. We are what we are and only really serious money will change that.
  8. Wait until you see him play a real game, he is pretty average. At a push Targett on the left, Bertrand on the right, think we did that on a couple of occasions didn't we.
  9. Gardos, Pied, Long and Clasie. None of them have the attributes to make keeping them at the club an obvious choice. Surprised that we're not trying to move them all on anyway, perhaps we are.
  10. The drug ban was totally messed up, there was no need to suspend him because the plant product Higenamine wasn't on the banned list and not really part of any group of products on the banned list. Liverpool were of course miffed because he didn't tell them he was using the fat burner, don't doubt that the French FA knew though, it's not the first time that they've acted independently.
  11. What are the glaring weaknesses then ?
  12. I've only mainly seen him in the french national side and there he's usually rock solid and a motor for the team. Perhaps he's not just a typical UK type footballer.
  13. Perhaps they are just plain wrong in that sense. They don't seem to mind being less than whiter than white in many aspects and yet a good player who has some sort of disciplinary problem is chucked into the waste bin illico; Then again it's Liverpool where murky is the new clear. I'm not really a fan of Klopp, he's an OK manager but sometimes he seems to act like one of the lads and anyone who doesn't fit in just doesn't fit in.
  14. And MLT of course was of the most disciplined kind off the pitch. A player's value can only be judged on the field of play. If what he does there is generally impeccable then the rest just doesn't matter.
  15. Pocketed by whom ?
  16. Certainly, better than Yoshida, Stevens, New bloke or the Invisible Man. Don't really see what people's beef is with him.
  17. Anyway Liverpool will have to move on to other targets soon if they're not convinced that they're going to be able to sign VvD . Can't start the season with just Lovren and those other 2 blokes. Unless of course Klopp is prepared to back down on Sakho but I really don't see that happening, which is silly on his part. Sakho is a far better defender than all but Lovren.
  18. If only he could stay onside. I think if you look back over last season he had a fair few golden chances and even "goals" disallowed for a few inches offside each time.
  19. Won't be anything really new for us though will it. Need to get richer owners and more success, that's how we'll keep our better players. Other than that we just need to accept that we're a run of the mill, top half of the PL club and let every first class player move on when he gets a chance to better himself.
  20. Well I'm certainly not worried by it, if he stays, so much the better, if he leaves we'll get a shedload of money and get someone else. He's a good player but there are plenty of others who have the potential to be equally good. We did Ok without him for the last what 4 months of last season so if we have 50 or so million to spend on a creative number 10 and another decent striker I'd not be that sad. VvD has become a cult figure here, if it weren't for all the Liverpool stuff many might see it as I do.
  21. We have what we can afford to have is the short answer. If we want better, more efficient, players then we need to find more money from somewhere or other. Both to keep the rare talents that we do find and obtain new ones. Isn't it strange that the clubs who have the most money have all the luck in finding efficient strikers and creative midfielders. We need to get the takeover done and move forward.
  22. Not the same thing, Boufal is a frenchman from Paris who plays for Morocco because that's his parent's nationality and he isn't good enough to play for France. The bloke from Alaves is a Morrocan, from Morocco.
  23. Boufal is French, this bloke is Morrocan. WP problems I'd think.
  24. JRod has been sold and the Polish CB signed but I really, really doubt that we'll sign much else in the way of quality players unless we sell the same. Doubt if we have the money to do it actually. For the moment we're probably about even Steven in the ledger, about 12 million in for JRod and the same out from having paid off Puel and buying Bednarek.
  25. No you're not. Betting on transfers, manager appointments etc is just another way that bookies and the like have invented to separate idiots from their money. Greed will always have an effect on part of the populace. But whilst the government taxes gambling there will be no action against something which is obviously not right. Me personally, I wouldn't give any benefits to those who gamble or smoke. It would be quite interesting to know just how much profit Sky subsidaries make from football related betting.
