The whole reason Hughes signing took so long was he wanted reassurances we wouldn’t weaken the squad particularly after last seasons fiasco. Hughes sees Saints as a great opportunity. I agree with the Strachan comparison. He had a distinctly average record prior to us but he ended up being a good fit for the club. Maybe it’s wishful thinking but I reckon Hughes will do well. I agree it’s clear from the fact that Krueger has conducted the interviews that Reeds influence will be reduced. The fact that he is looking for other jobs. It’s easy to knock Krueger as he not a natural football man but if you read his Wikipedia page he has been a major success in every endeavour he has been involved in. He doesn’t need the money he is a rich man. I suspect after getting Gao involved in the club followed by a disastrous season his professional pride has been hurt. One thing that has been left out is the comment from a couple of weeks ago that Nelly Gao would be taking a more prominent role in the club. I think Reed will be edged out. Hughes as manager and a shuffle around in the line up at the top can only be a good thing. I’m expecting more positive developments this week.

I’ve heard Hughes won’t be staying because he can’t work with Reed. If you remember that was also touched on in that Radio Solent debate. Of course that might be a Hughes negotiating ploy but he didn’t hang around much after the game.

Totally agree but I’m still bemused at what Krueger has to gain other than a massive stain on his impressive CV.

I totally blame Les. It’s not just the onfield matters he gets involved in . Allegedly he is unpopular with with the staff responsible for every aspect of the club. He still seems to believe that he can live off our 3 good seasons and soon that success will come flooding back. Krueger has been a hands on sporting coach, surely he can’t be afraid of a mediocrity like Les.
