Smart money's been recently betting against the pound vs. Euro. Good July for that trade. Keep up Trident

Thank god, the Eurozone economy is growing twice as fast as the UK and helping all those British exporters. Lucky to have a large, booming, near frictionless market on the UK's doorstep. Oh wait... Misselbrook, Saintsweb's very own village idiot

The UK is one of the worst performing countries for social mobility across the OECD. See exhibit 2 page 9. http://img-stg.bcg.com/BCGSocial-Mobility-report_tcm38-165914.PDF Knuckling and working hard may have made a difference in your day; you were lucky to be born in an era when social mobility was rapidly increasing. But those improvements have halted since the 1980s -indeed they have reversed for indicators such as income mobility. In other words, it is harder today than in the past to break the link between individuals parental background and their opportunities to climb the income and occupation ladder. Everyone can trade anecdotes and find outliers -and no doubt you think your children are special and talented; but the data speaks for itself, old boy.

MaPe gone by Xmas, Les Reed comes in and steadies the ship as caretaker manager -in the process, laying to rest the ghost of all those Santa ClueLes jibes. Having convinced Thomas Tuchel to join in the January window, Les resumes his role as DoF and goes on to collect another mid-season net spend champion award after selling Shane Long to West Ham for a club record £40m. We finish the season no higher than 8th. #inleswetrust

Not sure what his point is, though. Perhaps you can translate for the simpleton. He first pulls a bunch of random names out of the air -many of whom have nothing economically or ideologically in common with each other (Putin, Deng XiaoPing?) and then makes an entirely spurious claim that Corbyn and the Labour manifesto wants to run the UK along similar lines. I've been very critical of the Labour manifesto but the reductio ad absurdum in conflating it with Chavez (which I recall you got taken to town and made to look silly over) not to mention the China of Mao ZeDong is patently ridiculous.

You're bigger and better than that, Glasgow. Sad!

Are you related to Charlie or his bit on the side? You seem ultra-defensive whenever anyone is slightly critical of him.

It can be spun anyway you want - an alternative interpretation is that after years of underinvestment during the dark years leading to administration, this is the first cohort to enjoy the funding and support of the Liebherr regime.

Good article on the government's current attitude to foreign acquisitions. http://m.scmp.com/week-asia/opinion/article/2104449/china-returns-form-micromanaging-overseas-investments-purchases

What do you think? The inebriated, ageing halfwit bottled it.

It's well-known that the deal is heavily reliant on debt and it's well-known that the government has been putting up regulatory hurdles for outward M&A. It's especially the case for highly leveraged deals or deals that lack a clear strategic or commercial rationale (the government is particularly worried about capital flight and fake transactions aimed at moving money out of the country).
-
The reason the deal is seemingly being held up is because the its so reliant on debt.

Deng XiaoPing, the leader universally acclaimed for opening up China and changing its economic direction? Christ, you're one thick yokel.

Does 'arry still maintain the pretence that he's never got a team relegated? -
I agree and that's why Davis played well there in the past. I'm not going to overextrapolate from a few mins in a friendly against a side that was making changes and had an eye on next week and coronate him just yet as the next no.10. Perhaps JWP can play there, though to date, managers have viewed him either as a deep-lying CM where he can keep possession and set a tempo or a RM where he can use his right foot and whip crosses in. As you say a no.10 requires JWP to be a goal threat and incisive on the ball - things we've not really seen as yet. But who knows...

We tried the Boufal, Tadic and Redmond experiment last season against Hull IIRC and it looked horrible. Unless we're going to bring in a quality DCM to partner Romeu, it will probably be 2 of those 3, with Redmond's pace giving him an edge (as we don't have alot of pace). Davis used to play the 10 role in the Poch days to good effect as he could drop deeper and defend when necessary. Maybe it's JWP turn, though it seems an area where we could improve.

How about mobility?
