  1. Gardner was the little c**t who literally punched the ball away as it was being thrown over to them to take a freekick. Ref's back was turned, so missed it. Deliberate and utterly cynical, wasting even more precious time.

    Labour, it is, then.
  3. :lol:vren
  4. Sterling's kids must know all about their old man going missing when it matters.
  5. In the short-term, Betrand is an upgrade on Shaw, though still think once he settles down, Shaw will be a class act. Am very excited about Mané who gives us something we've been crying out for ages. Toby too is an excellent player, even if he's featured in only 16 of 33 games for us. Ultimately, though, he's on loan -and there are good reasons why that is unlikely to change. That said, success this season owes as much to Fonte, Clyne, Victor, Morgan and to a lesser extent Davis as to these new signings. Don't get me wrong: Pelle, Tadic and Long are useful additions but they're not difference-makers and have struggled at times. One illustration is our goal-scoring: once you exclude the Sunderland result which is a true outlier, we're closer to a lower-mid table side -and, in turn, why we brought in Elia and Djuriric who still have everything to prove. If Jrod shows any glimpse of his previous form, I hope we can coax another year or so out of him; because they underlin the need for proven quality. This reinforces a larger point: we did extremely last summer; but even so, the record has been inescapably patchy in some respects. Dread to think what a disappointing window would look like.
  6. A coincidence perhaps but I hear exactly the same thing from many other independent television producers
  7. Nobody's irreplaceable but some are harder to replace than others. In the main, our best players this season have largely been our old squad, not our new signings. For all the players we've brought in, we're still missing something up top and wouldn't be surprised if this is a priority area in the summer.
  8. Good post. Necessarily speculative, but it's a more realistic look at things than similar exercises. Even with the emergence of Reed, I can also see us bringing another midfielder in to replace Cork, as we tried with Vilhena.
  9. Depends what it means: calm unflappability or borderline control-freak?
  10. Without stirring a hornets nest, it's debatable whether, in most cases, we've brought in better players. Clyne is a class act and far harder to replace than Lambert, Chambers and Lovren were last season.
  11. You mean sign someone from the Eredivise?
  12. Since the start of the 2013/14 season, that's a decent amount of games but still slightly below average, even for nonintermationals (all competitions). The other possibility is that we rushed him back too soon after his initial injury.
  13. Even if true, not sure how much applies to Toby who was hardly a regular at Atletico.
  14. I'm usually well past a result by Tuesday morning; but this one is lingering. Pointless aggro over pointless numbers doesn't help the medicine go down either.
  15. What are you on about, you clown. I haven't been particularly critical of Forster and don't have any fixed preconceptions; just pointing out that shots faced is a very crude measure which it is. It's better than nothing but hardly determinative. Some go so far as divide the pen box into 46 areas given how far shot location, among other things, determines expected goals and ease of save. Simplifying somewhat, some have calculated how many shots it takes to score from these broad positions. One v.quick and dirty task might be to work out how many goals Forster has conceded from outside the box -three from the top of my memory (spurs, swansea and liverpool) and compare them to shots faced outside the box. If we accept that, on average, 1/33 shots is scored from outside the box, Forster will performing relatively well if he's faced over 100 shots and less so if he's faced under 100 shots from this position. Of course, lots of other things also affected the chances of scoring, as the article from which the charts are derived explains. Either way, the result is the same: it make shots faced an even less reliable measure. https://differentgame.wordpress.com/2014/05/19/a-shooting-model-an-expglanation-and-application/ Perhaps you'll think about that next time you decide to waste your time on a 5 year old's chart.
  16. Its an unedifying mess; all while the FA persists with perverse and arbitrary distinctions such as whether or not the ref saw an incident as a basis for reviewing appalling decisions.
  17. Exactly and if any changes are made, they should be announced prospectively, not retroactively and because Ben Shephard crapped his pants and the GoS sofa.
  18. Works hard but needs to take more risks and responsibility; interesting to see how he combines with Bertrand, an attacking fullback who should give Elia more space and options. The partnership was cut short by Bertrand's three match suspension.
  19. The next Robben [video=youtube_share;_mfKp9i52AY]
  20. On the other hand, can think of many examples where the ref has failed to play the advantage, the player has scored immediately after and play has been pulled back for the original foul.
  21. I saw that and nobody came out looking good. But explain why they felt that way in the first place and whether things escalated so quickly instead of being hoodwinked by Love Production's claims that they were somehow on a noble crusade to tell the truth about immigration and an uplifting story about community spirit. And if they were, they had already pîśsed away a lot of trust with Benefits Street.
  22. Yep, the version they put together from the hours of footage at their disposal when they knew the show wouldnt be going ahead. http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/benefits-street-channel-4-documentary-2994242 With such a track-record, can you blame people for being cagey?
  23. You mean like their balanced, incisive depiction of those on benefits?
