  1. you mean you can't remember Alpine ? Rightly or wrongly ....we still have half the old L1 squad on the books.....you're surely not one of those fans who expected us to conquer all before us and qualify for Europe this season ...are you ? Looking at some of the other sides around us, I'd say just surviving this season would be some sort of achievement - wouldn't you ? Oh !... and btw ...I wasn't underwhelmed by yesterday's three points - quite pleased in fact.
  2. I think it's fair to say we all do, but in reality he isn't...and never will be .... a Prem quality keeper, but I still admire the guy. Everyone has to move on at sometime...and his time may be closer than we think.
  3. I think he's the best bet for the near future, so not a replacement, but we need some good quality cover in the event of injury, etc......KD is counting his games, and (sorry) .but Gazzaniga isn't up to it YET ! I'd hate for us to have to depend on him in the last 5/6 games..if the need arose.
  4. to my knowledge ....NO-ONE..... ...except the dell days, of course.
  5. "usually?." How are you with the weather forecast, TDD?....you weren't so accurate on the Stoke game and ...now Villa W 1-0.....do you want to revise your Chelsea prediction ..before it's too late ?
  6. Mmm....they'll be quite a few changes of underwear in your household by the sound of it .......Have courage and hold your .....water!
  7. We really have come along way in 3 years...but some others here seem to have forgotten that when we still have some of the players from the L1 days. Seems like Schneiderlin has been with us for ages....as too Puncheon who is fulfilling his promise from those L1 days, and of course Adam ......who has been on Saints books for most of his life.. Ricky Lambert seems to have a bottle of the elixir of life ...31 and still going strong, whilst other outfield players over 30, like; Richardson and Guly are counting their games, whilst the youngsters are coming in. It takes time to settle and one good game doesn't change the season, and with upcoming fixtures like; Chelsea, Everton Man.Utd and Man.City ....it'll be another challenge for thís squad who had scarcely watched a Prem. game before ....let alone played in one. I'm really disappointed with the reaction of some people on this board when they quickly criticise all and sundry... if we don't get a " satisfactory result ". Playing teams like those is a challenge for most sidesin the Prem. (which is why they are in the top six)....so don't expect coupon-breaking results, and then start links calling for everyone to be sacked. For the faint at heart (or weak in bladder) ...change your nappies and get ready for Wednesdays game.... BE PATIENT....our " seemingly hopeless " position after 10 games, has begun to look a bit different now. YES, we'll probably have a few more disappointments, but most of us feel that we are good enough to survive now, and start to galvanise the " new squad " into a decent looking outfit for the future.
  8. looking at the incident again, both players were going at pace and chasing the ball, Shaw tumbled and fell hitting hitting his head, shoulder ...and then he clutches his knee.... Glad if it's not serious, but he must have had a few pains all over at the time.....safety first to come off on a strether.. and the ref. did add on more time, too.
  9. An opinion I agree with. Our style of quick passing/ball possession doesn't work well on pitches in winter, either. Judging the pace of a pass in one thing, but what happens when the ball is moving off the pitch is another....Yesterday the majority of our " big boot upfield kicks" found a man in space.... just as well as some of the " well-placed " passes.
  10. ................particularly as it was the only goal in the game......
  11. Agree totally ! (it may have been a doubtful decision from the ref.).. but it is even more wrong to brand JayRod as a cheat!.....but it makes better headlines - doesn't it .
  12. I've watched the video replay several times and ..as I see it...he didn't dive. Everything happens here in a split second, Rodrigues loses the ball and it rebounds into space, Puncheon goes after it and IMO is fouled by the keeper who spills the ball and Rodrigues (being nearest) goes for the loose ball....the Villa defender made a clumsy lunge with his leg ....which JayRod tried to avoid, lost his balance and fell - I don't see any physical contact - but as soon as Jay Rod gets up his expression, words and body language say ..I didn't dive. At this point.the ref. blows .and awards the penalty. IF the ref. misjudged the situation, or found grounds for a penalty after us advantage after the keeper lost the ball and JayRod was nearest..only he knows, it was his decision. IF anything I think the keeper was guilty of a foul (penalty offence) on Puncheon, but I really can't see that JayRod dived ..(reasons above) plus ...he didn't apppeal for penalty either. It probably wouldn't have been seen as so controversial ......if it hadn't been the only goal in the game. It might may /may not have been be a penalty (according to the book ) but I don't think that JayRod dived, and it's unfair to brand him a cheat, especially when there are so many other well-known " actors " in the Prem. who get away with it every time.
  13. ............NA said he had scarred knees......
  14. well i watched the game "streamed ", and I think it was one of the best keeper performances by a Saints' goalie this season. He made a number of routine stops, a couple of full-blooded stops, and at least two point-blank, match-saving saves. Jos played well... but Boruc would be my MOM.
  15. you ask that question after the next game ......not now.
  16. WELL ! .....we didn't lose and NA is still here, what's YOUR plan B.?
  17. he was caretaker / manager of Charlton .....for 7 games (6 defeats) in Dec.2006. Later sacked and replaced by .......Alan Pardew.
  18. thats what they said about Rickie Lambert - isn't it ?
  19. he scores great goals .....from anywhere.
  20. Guidetti to Saints? ----IF ONLY.......
  21. Err.....I seem to recall that Shearer was a goalkeeper in a Newcastle youth team squad !....no wonder they let him go, he liked scoring much better than picking the ball out of the net.
  22. AS NA has more faith in him than I do, it's best he gets games every week and lots of experience .....somewhere else......(perhaps Brum after they are forced to sell Butland ?)
  23. everyone can do a good job ....in the right niche..... Reed's apparant lack of success as a coach/manager of a lower league side has little bearing on his ability to spot " a good'un " .when he sees one. Having worked at the England level for the time he did, I'm sure that he is able to make good judgements....he doesn't have to train them...just find them. There is always pressure on the manager to handle the squad that he has and maybe they can't always make rational decisions when under stress and seeking replacements ..in desperation. I think a cool, calm approach is the answer...and Reed maybe that man. Every manager has a shopping list ..but can't always get the no.1 choice, however having someone with detached view is the better option when we get to make the final decision.
  24. ..or Portsmouth on a non-match day ...
