Your point on technique is correct but once you start stress testing it then the techniqiue starts to wobble. It's naive to suggest otherwise and how you replicate those stress conditions is difficult and much of it comes from experience and a strong mental attitude. Some of the greatest technically gifted and even stong minded sportsman have cracked under pressure and MLT coaching an international is not going to help them one bit but at Accrington I would agree he has much to offer. If it was just about technique weaker teams would never beat stronger teams in matches let alone penalty shoot outs. It's just unlike most sportsman MLT chose to hold himself back and therefore never fully exposed the chinks in his armour other that the general fitness issue that dogged his career. I am sorry my point is incomprehensible perhaps you should buy a book written by a expert and judge for yourself.

AS Tamesaint pointed out with originality and satirical wit you choose to take his idea and wring it dry to the point that you prove to us all original thinking is a weak point for you. At times the humour is better without a detailed explanation and is in what is left unsaid for those able to paint our own pictures.

Tame, I am inundated with offers for a 'Christmas pint' from people I have never met let alone mates. I will be turning myself in first thing Monday morning joining the rest of the moral crusaders snaking round the stadium. Time for biometrics is it than the current pathetic system of ticketing? :)No doubt that's another story and one I am sure David Lukert will be addressing in the long term. I don't lie Tame what purpose would that serve? It was my wife's firm's annual bash and I dread them (function over firm) tbh but duty called and all that good stuff. Family before football. The greatest result of the day was me squeezing myself into the tux for another year.

Actually, in all the South Today news bulletins in BBC Breakfast news that I saw on the day it broke last week. Not just a small amount of text, report with pictures! Did make you want to ask though if this would have an adverse effect on funds available for new players. The Echo has done nothing wrong and we don't want our local press in agreeing conditions over the release of their reports with any local organisation. Fitzhugh Fella alluded to the potential pitfalls of being a one man owned club and allegedly trying to control the release of information in the local paper would feed that fear somewhat, IMO. I am very, very happy with Mr Liebherr's purchase and 99% with the way the club has been moved forward to date but IMO and based on what I have read, they have got this wrong and I don't see why any fan would support the local paper being banned from the ground.

Why do you ask? Do you need help analysing my opinion and making a decent argument against it? I am a loyal Saints fan and also a realist and would not open myself to ridicule by suggesting that MLT was a better player than a midfielder with over 100 caps and nearing breaking the record as the most capped English international ever. Has Beckham ever been photographed yawning during an England training session or at least putting a picture of it in a book as what I can only describe personally as some sort of misplaced badge of pride or self deprecation. Personally, as a Saints and an England fan I found that picture a bit insulting, but that is just me putting to much store in professionalism, respect for the honour and effort I guess. Now, I think I have caught up with the usual abuse and responded accordingly and time to go and catch up with yesterday's match reports.

No, I didnt unfortunately, had to attend a Christmas function in London and not long back. Sorry, I didn't let you know beforehand. Still one of my mates and his son made good use of my tickets. Are you interested in a freebie the next time I can't make it?

Thank you .

No offence Dune but could you quantify your accusations. Being predictable = resident fruitcake. Plenty of other predictable posters on here and my view that in this case the club is wrong seems fairly reasonable are we all fruitcakes those who hold similar views?

Post playing days and as an a prospective employee the the FA in this instant it is relevant. Also 'life' was a generalisation and read his book to get a pcture about his attitude to coaching. Delldays you're in the services Aren't you? If so tell us the code you have with your unit , regiment or whatever you call it in your line of work and what would happen if one of yours stepped out of line just once for their own cause? No doubt a few of your colleagues have had a few Gerrard or Terry like misdemeanours or backgrounds but it's what counts in your 'unit' that counts, isn't it?

Wes, out with the red ink I see and dissecting every word, every letter beyond the point of banality. I am not interested in playing your games and will read posts and comment accordingly and why can't you do the same. I do think your point about Usain Bolt though does go to show how far you are prepared to argue a valid point with an analogy so ridiculous it couldn't go uncommented on. The less pressure a player is under the easier the task and had MLT played at a higher level the games would have become at times more meaningful and more pressured and his number of misses would have probbaly increased. Kicking the ball in the net from the penalty spot under less pressurised circumstances does not mean that Usain Bolt could in the same circumstances run the 100m in under 8secs. Analogies like that insult me Wes but more importantly insult your own arguments and that is why I stopped reading beyond that rolly eyed thing. I enjoy debating with you and you make good points but the school teacher act is bad enough but analogies that pathetic destroy your credibility with me I am afraid. Finally, if we all had the evidence Wes none of us would need to post and it is purely my opinion that this was a PR stunt as equally as it is yours that it was not. There is the debate but to rubbish it by saying i have no evidence well it works both ways doesn't it?

Already been pointed out Hypo, but when the merits of an individual are being discussed for an international role and yet patently avoid a potential sticking point, I think those blindly supporting the suggestion need to be challenged. I did not initiate this debate and perhaps that is what I should have said originally. I will not unsolicited bring up issues concerning MLT unless I feel it is warranted and in this instance it clearly is. If people were more honest and balanced on their review of MLT as a candidate would I have intervened? No is the answer just in case you needed to know. Having read his book and drawn my own conclusions about his attitude to life and at times the need to conform I would never employ him in a coaching role or any that required a degree of self-discipline to follow rules and policy. That is just my opinion but MLT does come across as wanting to do things his way, comes across as lazy, has questionable judgement and can be quite arrogant about it and I'm fairly sure Capello does not want a maverick operating to his own agenda behind his back. Can you imagine MLT going through the infamous final interviews on 'The Apprentice'? No neither can I, they would tear him apart and so would Capello IMO.

None of them Daren let down their team or their supporters on the pitch and I suspect would rather die for their cause than try to alter the course of a game for their own profit regardless how brief. I'm not defending their off field antics as I am not defending MLT's but there is a very big difference in on the field shenanigans than off IMO. John Terry's background and off the field behaviour does not affect his never say die attitude on the pitch and you get a sense if a fellow player in his team was caught in some silly betting scam his view would not be somewhat less than accommodating IMO. I cherry pick my points Daren and you continue to miss them completely but hope you enjoyed your research it proves nothing about a one for all and all for one spirit in the team, MLT broke that code. Your Wayne Rooney example is very amusing its as though every well paid footballer is not followed around by a group of shallow wannabe's willing to prostitute themselvess for a taste of the high life so Rooney wasn't interested in any of that and just saved himself time and effort. I am not condoning it but nether is it called the world's oldest profession for nothing but how old was Rooney at the time 16 , 17? How curious were you at that age? Perhaps had he been a Saints player at the time you might have followed in his footsteps seeing as you defend everything red and white no matter how odious, when at times you are simply wrong.

Brilliant post

Because it is a salient point in the argument and people seem to choose to forget it when it suits their argument, where others outside our club may not.

Coaching athletes especially or those who have to compete individually they are trained to focus on something positive when they hit the wall so they can go through it without dipping. Invariably, they are told to imagine crossing the line first arms aloft or collecting their medal or whatever positive mental picture works for them. They are told to avoid negative thoughts like 'this hurts' or 'I'm can't keep this going' etc as it will definitely become a self-fulfilling prophecy. Therefore, I don't think your point is irrelevant and there is a very strong argument for mind over matter.

Wes give me an example when Le Tissier has scored a penalty in a penalty shoot out in major international championships after playing for 120mins to the point of exhaustion? By his own admission he ran his hardest in a game for 70 seconds whilst trying to pull off a betting scam. Physical and mental exhaustion coupled with the pressures of taking a kick knowing that the weight of your nation is riding on you is I would suggest a little harder than the weight of a few friends trying a make a few quid. MLT failed to kick the ball out on that occassion, do you think he coudln't cope with the pressure as oppose to being an issue of skill that resulted him in being unable to kick the ball out? The fact is that psychologically MLT's ability to score penalties was made easier because of playing for a smaller club and the god like status in which he was held. If he missed the fans were unlikely to chastise him for it and the stats a lot lower had he moved to major club at that time. He was a big fish in a small pond and that gave him that playing arrogance/confidence to do what he did. Do you think he recognised that and it was one of the factors why he decided to not raise his ambitions and test himself in a bigger pond and under greater pressure? I don't doubt MLT could coach penalty takers in the lower reaches of the Premiership and below but above that I don't feel that players would benefit form his experience and would be better off with a sports psychologist. Finally, respect is king and I doubt no matter now minor MLT's admission was that it would go down well with the likes of bulldog competitors like John Terry and so his presence I would doubt would be well received. IMO Wes it was nothing but a PR stunt and in your world I think you can recognise one when you see it.

Daren I avoid your points as they are repetitive nonsense form the forum's defender of the blind faith plus I have answered them before. Your support is both blind and loyal whereas mine is simply loyal and therefore I defend my right to speak out against things I have an issue with. In the Kingdom of the blind Daren the one eyed man is king. I hope you enjoy your gift when it arrives and don't right off a Pompey lass. Some things are more important than football.

Exactly and hardly the mark of a legend. Blimey, they will be giving the Nobel Peace prize to Obama next for talking a good game.

I doubt Beckham's managers ever said to his team if you get the ball pass it to Becks making it somewhat easier to score. Also Beckham looked after himself physically and therefore is still making a contribution at the highest levels whereas Le Tissier decided on the easy life. Finally, I doubt Beckham was so arrogant to not worry about being picked as his team's faithful would be chanting his name until he was selected. A name IMO that MLT lived off when it was well past it's sell by date. At their very best you may take MLT I agree, but based on a straight football career analysis MLT cannot hold a candle to Beckham or Lampard and Gerrad for that matter. All 3 wipe the floor with MLT with regard to longevity of ability, fitness, playing at the nighest levels for as long as possible and ambition. If MLT had moved to a side of say Chelsea or Liverpool's status of today he would with his attitude and fitness ended up being more of a sub than he was for us IMO.

Did you read Strachan's book?

Well maybe next year we won't need to!
-
So I take it Daren you won't be sending this sad and pathetic loner your 'legend's' Christmas card or whatever the festive offering from the shop is this year. Not to worry I have sent you a card and included a small gift. A packet of screen wipes and the rest of my annual subscription to match.com. Enjoy!

I don't think Le Tissier could offer advice on penalty taking to any International because the reasons they miss are because of the tiredness factor of maybe having played 120 mins and the sheer pressure of the situation. I don't think the likes of messrs Rooney, Lampard and Gerrad need technical advice from Le Tissier but maybe he should go to Forest and give McGoldrick some advice as at club level he may have something to offer.
-
Point 1 - I said GET into a World Cup Final - England v Germany 1990 Point 3 - None but how many penalties di le Tissier take at a major international competition where the presure was somewhat more intense and the commitment to compete with a tad more vigour would ensure some of those penalty takers after 120mins of football at the highest level may feel less fresh than when Le Tissier took most of his. Stats tell a story but not always the whole story. Given the standards Capello demands if he reads the somewhat flippant nature of MLT's book I doubt he will fit the profile of the type of coach Capello would want around. Shall I fax him the picture of a yawning le Tiss trying to make it as an England international?
