To be fair that 5-1 victory may have had as much to do with QPR's dip in form than some of Strachan's footballing stardust. I hope he falls flat on his face simply because Gibson made a major mistake in supporting Southgate through relegation and then with Boro 1 point off the automatics and after a good win they sack him. Doesn't stack up. Look at Strachan, he was manager of a club that should have been an annual shoe in for the Premiership title with Rangers long and now well known money worries. All he had to deliver was a little bit of European success even a semi final in the UEFA would have shown some managerial expertise but nothing and he hardly stormed the Scottish Premiership. IMO Strachan will be more remembered for his quips than his managerial prowess and as one poster has already mentioned I firmly believe Pardew will become the greatest Saint's manager because he talks about the game. the players, the development and plans for the club in a dedicated, eloquent and well measured way and avoid the smart ar5e comments and 'witty' asides that would get him on SSN a bit more often.
-
Not sure why this would come as a surprise to anybody. Strachan wasn't in danger of believing his own hype and increasingly bizarre and flippant media interviews he revelled in it. Strachan IMO believes he can be as 'off the cuff' and every inch the 'big man' as much as Clough or Ferguson but unlike those greats he seems to have forgotten the basics i.e. football. The number of married players in a side should be an irrelevance IMO as one of his more recent and infamous observations went. To think that as an ex-Saints manager he would have been very much on Pinnacle's short list of potential managers. I am so pleased with our situation and looking at recent results I know with the current set up we can end our endless fascination of assessing the performance and conduct of ex-employees. They are irrelevant and in some cases not worthy of our attention.

My views are very consistent Tame so instead of doing all you can to avoid a relevant question by deflection why don't you actually address the apparent double standards of some fans. I'm not actually polluting the forum or debating MLT's past action just asking how some can defend his action yet accuse Henry of cheating, I am not discussing the details of MLT's case in case you hadn't noticed just questioning what some fans see as cheating.
-
I don't believe for one minute you think that is true and that if Wotte is tainted by his association with Lowe then it's solely the prejudice of those doing the tainting. Mark Wotte is a decent man and judging by the way he conducted himself and managed the team during the time with us I have no doubt he at least has the potential to be the equal of Pearson. In hindsight having decided to can Pearson, Lowes biggest mistake in his last tenure was not to persuade Wotte from taking the manager's job full time. Afterall he did at least come with some strong endorsements regard his ability where as JP did seem about as hapless as Dodd and Gorman IMO.

LOL - I think it's fair to say I would be somewhat unhappy but sadly if you had asked me the question this time last year i would have agreed there would be few better candidates.
-
I would agree with this but disagree it has to be someone well known outside the club's environs. I actually think it would be a nice gesture to give it to a fan and my remarks towards Derry were not flippant if he has indeed supported the club for 55 years. If it was seen as an ambassadorial role it would need to be given to someone who has conducted themselves without controversy during the past and present regardless of their status at the club. What we don't want is a honorary president that courts the limelight and is open to the odd controversial comment. They IMO have to be in the mould of Ted Bates and IMO that salt of the earth type of character will be found on the terraces and what an honour to bestow an individual in the latter years of their support.

Tame you are no better than Saint Clark - without reference to myself and trying to belittle my opinion or character give me an explanation as to the definition of a cheat and the difference between Henry and Le Tissier. Explain to me why fans bleating about Morgan's comments smacks of double standards.
-
OK, what's the difference in calling Henry a cheat whilst turning a blind eye to Le Tissier's wrong doing. Both were one off instances but neither were honest and for different reasons were seeking some personal gain or otherwise. Trying to rubbish my belief does not discount the fact Le Tissier cheated or acted dishonestly for his personal gain. My opinion cannot simply be discounted in this scenario so without reference to myself explain the difference between Henry and Le Tissier and why one is a cheat and the other should be exonerated.

In the current environment I agree but 18 months ago in a 3 horse race that would barely grace the undercard of an AW fixture at Lingfield in January then I hitched myself to the horse I felt would get us closest to the finish line whilst running the straightest course as oppose to meandering and backtracking all over the place. It was Hobson choice but a choice nonetheless.

You don't agree the title should go to a life long supporter who would undoubtedly appreciate the honour far more than those who can seemingly give up on the club so easily from plastic fans to those expecting a free ticket?

Portsmouth fail to pay their players again...
Nineteen Canteen replied to Daren W's topic in General Sports
I do, because our football supporter's experience would be all the poorer without them and cut the Northam's songbook by 50%. Bottom line is Portsmouth and Southampton badly need each other to do well otherwise just as support dwindles away from the premiership taking away a fierce rivalry is hardly going to bolster numbers. Shower they may be but a shower we could ill afford to lose nonetheless. -

I agree and we are forgetting the plight of Palace and Watford and the former also late because the chairman has 'cashflow' problems. Hardly surprsing if he has been funding the wages. I find it a tad pathetic we focus on the problems of Pompey when the Palace issue was in the news before the Pompey story -and yet not a murmur of concern. Football cannot carry on in its current guise and there is surely a danger the top clubs will break away and proetct their franchise a bit like the NFL in America. If that happens then it will be slim pickings for the rest of us without promotion to the top flight - not that it could ever be achieved. -
Dignity, tolerance and strength of character and hardly surprising he is invited back to watch a match. Other ex-Saints have a lot to learn in some instances, iMO. The man deserves the very best of luck.

Good for you Mike, others are not so discerning.

Interesting display of double standards Tame and I'm afraid I couldn't help but point it out to those shouting cheat. Thats two distasteful little swipes at schizophrenia today Tame, are you suggesting you know something?
-
Why? You seem happy our midfield is being bolstered by a Frenchman. Do you expect him to suspend his nationality just because he plays for Saints? Free country and he should be allowed to comment as he sees fit even if it does upset the double standards of the precious. What do you suggest Alps, an infraction?
-
Henry or Le Tissier whats the difference? One tried to further the cause for his country, one tried to line his pocket. Even Antonio tried to get away with a blatant hand ball on Tuesday night but at least got booked for his troubles. However, even the ref can't deal with every underhand practice that goes on in a game and the authorities should not just be empowering the referees IMO. You can't label Henry a cheat and exonerate MLT for his admission. Afterall both were one off events and at least Henry was not hiding anything and both like Maradona were trying to get away with it.

Here Here! Failing that I nominate Derry.

Therefore, a president is not required because he will have nothing to preside over and /or exercise his control and authority. We could have an honorary president given as recognition of a persons unstintingly loyal and passionate contribution to the club and to be quite frank I suspect there are some very long serving season ticket holders out there who would be more deserving than some of the names mentioned. Furthermore, honorary infers it is an unpaid position and no doubt that would discount a few more, unlike the loyal fan of say 50 years standing who would be genuinely grateful and proud of such an honour bestowed upon them.

Quite, I'm sure there must be a key combination to add this but I only recently found that the shift key is a far quicker solution than usings the CApS lOck.

Dont get the back of your head tattoed with Seven the Legend.

Lifestyle choice then and Rory I can assure you the odd pretentious comment is not coming from those who you serve so well in opening their minds to new music. Those sort of grandiose claims and self importance with regard to your musical offerings is 'pretentious incarnate' - and I suppose you have a 'you tube' clip of their debut at the Red Lion in a little known corner of Salford.

Time for a little caption competition

It had not been easy for Dopey to leave Snow White's crack den and even though he was pleased to have passed over the temptation of a white line he was nonetheless surprised to see his parole officer Little Red Riding Hood checking up on him. This was not going to be easy especially playing alongside Sleepy although of course he now went by the name of Jaidi whose new disguise was not fooling anybody, or so he thought... -
...been drawing down on the 51 weeks of of a fully paid up 52 week contract or thereabouts. Wotte didn't need to accept the next role that came along as unlike Pearson the club decided to recognise the man's contribution with a 12 month contract. Perhaps there is a clause in that contract that prevented Wotte moving to a another club for 6 months or perhaps he simply chose to wait for an opportunity that suited him. Pearson's side didn't need investment when he inherited the likes of Fryatt and Oakley. We worry about losing Lambert or Lallana but what if Leicester received an offer for Fryatt they couldn't refuse? The team thus far have managed itself but as soon as the waters get a bit choppy which they inevitably will and Pearson is properly tested, he will be found wanting IMO. Take Ian Holloway the man whose legacy Pearson inherited, not doing a bad job at managing at a cash strapped club like Blackpool. Unfortunately, Mandaric's track record show that he isn't blessed with patience when the rough times replace the smooth no matter how temporary.
