Moi is an interesting player - not a good set piece taker, but brighter than Redmond so far, i like the way he goes infield and is prepared to shoot. Austin is a passenger, would much rather Gabbi or Armstrong on in his place. Holjberg - decent. Cedric - some important challenges but has been pretty awful in possession - we need a replacement!
-
We need a hammering like this for Hughes to realise how much of a liability Wesley Hoedt is. Weird game, they haven't been amazing we haven't been awful or been getting battered throughout, at some points we looked tidy going forward. The issue is the defensive mistakes as always.
-
So far some decent build up and two corners. Wish we had a different option to Cedric, Romeu/Lemina look ponderous. Targett working hard down the left.
-
Liverpool are a classy side, even if we get battered it's to be expected, they're currently one of the top teams in Europe.
-
Because the players are sitting back to hold on to the lead.. it's mentality and one where these players have become accustomed to throwing away leads so naturally they try to defend them instead of attacking. Despite instructions by Hughes and the formation.
-
Shane Long looking sharper than Ings so far, Lemina and Holberg are controlling the game. Cedric is crossing early which is threatening. Redmond needs to be more decisive, Moi is making good runs and getting forward but still doesn't look sharp. I think he will come good, he just needs to get up to fitness as the Swiss league compared to the Premier League is night and day. He likes to cut across and shoot which i like. So far we're the better team but i'm thinking that we lack a goal threat, perhaps Ings will score a rebound and we'll take a tight 1-0 win.

Best first half performance of the season, imploded after the equaliser.. dunno what to say. Shows how mentally weak these players are.
-
PEH should be dropped and fined. Embaressing, he is meant to pride himself as a role model.
-
I think we could do with Gabbi on for Long, need someone to pick up the rebounds and loose bounces. El Noussi needs to keep cutting inside and having a go, looks threatening when he does. Redmond excellent - the best i've seen him for ages. Lemina - V good along with Holberg. Vestergard - slightly weird half, good ball player and strong but does dive in against quick players which almost caught us cold. Cedric - needs to work on delivery Long - huff and puff but to no avail Ings - our best bet at a goal, linking up well Hoedt - did nothing wrong for once, solid. Bertrand - some poor touches, but making good runs
-
Not too disappointed, showed some fight against a strong side. Think we're a better side without Austin in the starting line up. JWP played well, as did Ings and Bertrand. Defensive lapses especially at set pieces are a worry. But again we started badly, and Hughes needs to work on the players focus.

We're two games in and people calling for Hughes head.. the performance is actually better than the first half VS Burnley. He went 4-4-2 like many fans wanted, the issue which is clear - lack of pace especially in wide positions and add that to two rather incapable defenders, it means we're in trouble on set pieces. Marco Silva has Everton playing bright football and they're pressing well. I don't see any need to panic just yet, this is one of those games where we were always likely to lose, but some positive signs in attack just a lack of leadership on the field and sloppyness. Personally don't feel we should have Charlie Austin the side, he's a passenger in games like this - we need to add some steel in the midfield or add Armstrong in there to link with Ings.
-
Dunno why the negativity - i think it'll be a close game. Providing we frustrate them we could get a point. Hoedt selection still baffles, but if he performs badly he'll be out of the side. I like the fact Ings is in, he'll be a pain for Everton to deal with. Some set piece delivery by JWP could cause Everton problems. The problem for Everton is they've spent lots of money and the expectation is huge, so we have to keep tight and frustrate their fans and hit on the break in the second half as they get more desperate for a goal. The key is not to concede early.

We're finding our way into this game, playing Europa competitive football has benefited Burnley as their team looks more "solid" and gelled. I think Redmond/Austin doesn't work, as Redmond is too weak and his runs are just bizarre, i hope if it continues like this that our new Basle signing is subbed on in the second half. Hopefully Ings will get some game time too today.
-
We're playing absolutely terribly - seems like the players are lazy, especially Wesley Hoedt who looks a liability as he did last season. Redmond/Lemina both giving the ball away cheaply, Cedric looks off the pace as expected and Austin hasn't had a touch.. i'll be happy with a draw tbh.

Saints starting XI. Goalkeeper - Alex McCarthy Left back - Ryan Bertrand Centre back - Maya Yoshida Centre back - Vestergard Right back - James Ward-Prowse (or Targett) - Cedric may not be match fit yet. Right mid - Nathan Redmond CM - Oriel Romeu CM - Jan Pierre Holgberg Left mid - Elyounoussi- Attacking mid - Armstrong Striker - Gabbiadini However i think Hughes will go for three CB's, we need to step up Valery as Cedric cover as i fear about the right back cover spot. Lastly, i hope that Lemina doesn't start until his attitude improves looked woeful/unfit and lazy against BMG.

Another defensive and goalkeeping howler. Macca has given Hughes some food for thought with that. -

Not a great first half, we aren't using Gabbi enough. Austin looks a passenger, Targett struggling as is Hoedt. Bertrand very sloppy on the ball. The only players who look interested are Armstrong/Gabbi -

Wesley was behind the play, too slow to react to attackers run and expected Bedanek to cover the cross. Two mistakes in one.. then looks around blaming others. Typical of him like he did last season. -
No Lemina in the squad either - he is in the training camp but will be sold to an Italian club for around £20m
-
Looks to be no links at all anywhere, not being shown on Saints YouTube either, a missed opportunity.
-
Crikey, he's just having a laugh and he's also aware he is doing it to showcase the togetherness in the squad. So playing up to the camera to some degree. I'd rather have a character like Austin who helps the dressing room with some banter and character than the awkward Boufal video who clearly didn't fit in. However much us fans wanted him to.

Summer 2018 - Other teams Manager/transfer business

Everton losing 2-0 against newly promoted Blackburn Rovers... suppose there's a relegation meltdown on their forum as well. -
What i don't understand is Saints fans cry out for top class signings - then cry when they leave and are sold at a profit (VVD/Wanyama/Clyne/Spiderman/ to name a few) the club get no credit, however when signings which are expensive don't pay off and the club ends up loaning players out as no-one wants them, then the club quite rightly gets stick. Either way paying money for transfers is a risk - the sad thing is we have stopped putting as many youth players into the first team and are instead focusing on loaning them out, and buying expensive players instead. It's much better for a youngster to fail - than it is a £19m signing from Monaco. That is where the club has failed, and we should get behind the likes of Targett/Stephens/McQueen/Sims/Reed etc than always cry out for new expensive signings which will end up being far more of a risk. This is why i want Sam Gallagher to be in the squad and if he's not good enough we will deal with that come next season, rather than spend £20m on a player who may or may not score 10 goals..

We draw against the runners up in the Bundersliga and it's a "we played okay" we lose against a championship side and it's suddenly relegation. Friendlies are just that - a chance for players to blend in and learn a system, sometimes like with all games it works, sometimes it doesn't - and sometimes it is the kick up the arse the team need. We thrashed St Etienne in a friendly under MOPO too, let's not read too much into them. Derby were always likely to be more "up for it" Lampard is a manager with lots to prove Home game against Premiership side - want to show the fans that their value for money Not missing players from World Cup like we were with defenders (Yoshi/Bednarek) Hughes will find a system that works and bed in our new signings, we're still three signings away, we need a striker, a pacy winger and wingback to cover Cedric.
