You think...........?

I appreciate a moderator response - thanks Can I just relate it to the pub analogy again as it works on a number of levels? If a customer came in every night and shouted 'F*ck Saints' in a pub full of Saints fans or continuously trashed the ethos, players, owner, playing style, transfer policy and called the said fans deluded and belittled their belief or their just plain support for their team... What would the landlord do? What would the customers do? I do see this forum as a Saints pub - tell me if I'm wrong?

Positive Lallana comments expressed just 4 months ago

No Exactly that - we have no reason - just speculative sh*t from people whose job it is to sell papers, make commissions... So - no -
A lot of sense here too - I can just about tolerate skates who don't hide their allegiance (Mack would even be one whose posts I look forward to) as they put their heads up over the parapet and can expect what they get. What I find unacceptable is skates who come on here and purport to be Saints fans whilst dishing out all the sneering, negative cr*p of the sort that I'd employ if I was as deeply sad as to want to infest and f*ck up a skate board. Is this what this forum is about? Surely an administrator can discern and decide what's welcome and what isn't - we're not talkling a mass cull here, just sensible, for the good of most Saints fans selectivity. Need clues? I don't think you do.

Well-reasoned post, I agree with most of what you say. When I go to the pub (or club...sailing club for instance in my case...good comparison for here) I'm not looking for conflict - I'll argue my corner but it's with a bunch of generally sociable people who share similar interests. Anyone who was anti-social, aggressive would soon be shown the door. It's an easy cop-out to say you're all adults etc but surely the greater good is paramount?
-
Scared talk Glasgow...perhaps you could team up with skatechez and do the opposite of 'I love' on a Facebook page then you could talk all the anti-Saints cr*p you like without irritating genuine Saints fans? In fairness though I think you do talk WUM cr*p most of your life there may be a Saints fan buried deep - not so with the other count!

I have made this point in the past...if the opinions spouted by the most blatant of skate trolls were aired in a Saints pub there would be a number of reactions from the customers, understandable if not condoned, probably ending in blood being shed. No landlord would want this to continue, nor could let it continue either on account of his licence or the damage to his trade by the exodus of his day to day customers so would take action to protect his (and the majority of his customers) well-being. It's not difficult to relate this to a forum - except that anonymity protects both sides of the equation. But - the reputation of the forum, the friendly atmosphere, the ability to discuss matters of common interest is tainted, destroyed in some cases and plenty will either take up cudgels against the infiltrators when all they really want is friendly discussion or banter or go elsewhere having become disillusioned with the experience. This, in all likelihood, is what the infiltrators would, for their own perverse purposes, consider a victory. Would the landlord consider this a good situation - do the moderators?

What is the weirdest own goal scored at a Saints game?

That's the one - I'd just gone away from home to a MN training place and was gutted not to be able to go to matches -

Way back when I seem to remember Channon scoring a hat-trick, 2 for us and an o.g....wasn't there but remember reading it in Shoot, probably, as the seasons' strangest treble - anyone help..late sixties I think. -
More to the point how many have you skatey?..I know Pap is one and he has you down as a skate in denial....I just think you're a skate clunt!

They're fine, compare what it used to cost to fly to the same destinations and the value is incredible. Agree it's well worth paying for priority boarding, not much extra to avoid the wrestling for locker space. Sure I get irritated about the little fanfare they applaud themselves with every time they're on schedule but I can remember paying hundreds of pounds to fly to Paris years ago....small sacrifice for a lot of money saved!

I enjoy it when your multiple contradictions trip you up but then you're not ever claiming to be mastermind material and if you were it would be much the same as claiming you were a Saints fan....way beyond credibility! You don't go to matches, don't accept that enjoying Saints is anything to do with supporting them?! You said your reputation was shot...I disagree...you are the most blatant of skate trolls and your reputation as that is there for all to see, what I don't understand is wtf you get off on coming on to a rival forum and bleating your illiterate contradictions...maybe to get this sort of response but how farking sad must your life be?!! I've supported Saints all my life, I'm down if they lose but it doesn't make my support any less enjoyable! ColinJB (amongst many others) sums up the feelings that a supporter feels - I met him at a pre-season U21 friendly at a non-league ground(100 miles for me, 50 for him...why even Dune was there!!) - you, by your own admission, couldn't get off your sad skate arse to go and see a youth match a few minutes away ffs!! I don't suppose you do wonder why you are reviled on here...I gather your nasty skate bleatings got you kicked off another forum so you do have form - just what the fluck do you get out of it?! Finished now, an Ottery style rant but he's far more of a gent than me - I'll not be apologising - I'm just astounded you still infest a place where you are quite obviously detested!!

I think the responses they elicit constitute some form of care in the community so we should be seen as 'doing our bit for the disadvantaged' - I just wouldn't choose to do care in the community in those particular suburbs of P*mpey and wish the tiresome skate trolls would f*ck off back to their own fish-fragranced forums... Eighth place is an excellent step forward - our football has been breathtaking at times - our stock is high in the football world. Anyone who finds constant negativity amongst that is patently not a Saints fan.

£13 million pounds is a couple, maybe more, of a decent players' wages - we can add to the depth of our squad without impacting on the balance sheet too badly. It's about building quality and retaining our best youth...if we can generate that sort of cash then the way is forward - no? I also agree that MP is a big factor in players staying...I'd like to see Osvaldo off the wage bill at whatever that takes almost but if the extra placing means we can afford over and above that all to the good Our profile is higher through our style of football and the international call-ups...we have at least four more of those than this time last year. Got to give confidence to anyone joining?

Seems well respected within the game and the club. Think he takes the pressure of those above as well as doing the legwork for both management and board members - a focal point that is necessary for continuity. He said the other day that he speaks to MP daily and at length - don't really understand the animosity towards a key member of our staff - until I look at who it comes from!

On a scale of 1 to 10, how happy are you with saints at the moment?
dronskisaint replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
Guess you've never been to Southampton then Skatey? -
Outstanding accolades for both...and too for club and Academy. Wonder when the last time two home-produced players came through the system to make this team! Fantastic achievement, we should be very proud of our club - how could you not be happy to be a Saints fan right now?!
-
The second handball (where Lallana flicked it up) was nailed on from where I sat - clearly prevented the ball from reaching our player..not sure but he controlled with his hand. The other 2 were 'I've seen given' ones as was the Osman 'dive'. The Lovren rolling around was as clear a 'six of one, half a dozen of the other' variety as you'll ever see! All in my humble opinion of course!

Rare view from the jewellery rattling seats..
dronskisaint replied to dronskisaint's topic in The Saints
Of course :-) Sorry - no bitter drinkers amongst us so can't answer the non-lager question - reasonable selection of wines though -
Those who can remember the sixties will understand the title but for the benefit of the younger fans on here I mean the posh (corporate) seats. I usually watch from Block 39'ish and thereabouts but today had a couple of Estonians from my biggest contractor who like to follow football all around Europe and wanted the full experience so despite my protestations on the 'real' atmosphere I booked seats in the Presidents Suite and just thought I'd throw in my reflections should anyone else be considering it. I've been taken along as a guest a few times before by customers but not for years...last was a 0-0 with Colchester that was enlivened by an after match experience with Matt Le T who was there working - was invited to get his boots out but anyway... £168 per ticket is not cheap and the early kick-off didn't really lend itself to the best use of hot buffet meal beforehand but it was reasonable, reasonable quality, reasonable choice...and the drinks were on tap you just had to ask a waiter/waitress so it may have been possible to drink the difference in value between £40 and £168 if you worked at it but drinks and nibbles at half and full time helped. Not overly impressed but the player introduction and interview was before the match, due to the hour, and was Morgan as he was injured. Side-note - I watch him almost every week on the pitch but he was much more slender close to! He was articulate and responded amusingly to some fairly bland questions but including some quite personal ones about his lack of inclusion in the French team. As well as discovering that Clyne was the best dressed in the dressing room and Shaw by some distance the worst! 'E buys zer trousers zat fit my sister' stood out as a defining comment. He considers Gerrard the best player he's played against and Lallana the best he has played alongside. For me it was good to be in the presence of such playing royalty, sad fan that I will always be, and my guests were suitably in awe (one had his photo taken with Sam Gallagher afterwards...they were surprisingly very well-informed on Saints and knew of his recent sad news). Row X block 5 was a good view...a little too far from the Northam but let me add to the compliments - today was very funny and after the first few minutes we heard little from the away section. I'm loud at football and I did try and behave but nobody looked sternly when I ventured opinions on the Itchen linesman...how bad was he ffs!!? Whilst a couple of corporates chatted business all the way through I resisted the temptation to ask why they'd chosen this venue..and my less than tuneless (and I do mean that ...I don't even aspire to hold a tune!) joining in with the Northam did occasionally get some takers but it was mostly a little sterile. Nobody cross,, nobody grumpy, stewards fine...just not what I normally go to a match for. Would I recommend taking clients or customers...? I think that they'd need to be football fans - some were obviously there for the experience, the free meal etc but if, as with my guests, they were keen to see live a club that has made an impression via TV in their country, it's a very good feel-good thing to do. The game itself...just brilliant from my standpoint. I've followed Saints for five decades and I rarely, if ever, remember feeling that we were in such complete control. Somebody commented on another thread that it was more difficult top choose a non-contender for MOTM...certainly from our awesome midfield (I went for Cork...thought big Vic gave him the freedom to go forward more and his skills were more evident)..Davis was unstoppable, what an important player he is, VW was as good as I have seen since he arrived. How privileged do I feel to be seeing this...well, I went 9 out of ten on the happy poll - it could only be a better feeling if we won something! Hope this may provide a perspective for anyone considering doing this...worked for my clients but feel that the value was there to debate - that being said it was pretty much full and there was a really good buzz before and after so they must be doing something right!
-
I'm not disagreeing either but I'd hazard a guess we 'probably' wouldn't turn our noses up at anyone who offered a tenner for Jonno Forte :-)
-
Lallana supported Everton as a kid.....Barry the skatechez allegiance is self-evident!
-
But possibly less deluded than those who take the press at face value I suggest! I like that we seem to be continuing to do our business privately...I'd assumed it was Cortese driven but nice that the culture sustains.

Respect!
