  1. Things are bad enough in the world without the population of the Capitol having to look at my legs!
  2. Yeah, death by paper -an old East London tradition?

  6. How many of us were there yesterday - is there an official number anywhere (not on Saints or Charlton OS) ?
  7. That's got me doing that Homer Simpson drooly thing!! Aaaaargh - no marmite - to the RonMobile and hence the shops.
  8. Funny you should mention that - as I was walking across Hyde Park last night.....
  9. No - t-shirt, denim jacket, army fatigues and soft thin soled shoes (even thinner now)!
  10. Partly my own fault. I meant to walk from Paddington to the river ferry at St. Pancras but headed due south (knocked off course by the BBC proms site in Hyde Park), and came out at Battersea Power Station! One 'power walk' later and I got to the ferry in time! Then 3 miles from the O2 ferry stop to the ground, 2 miles from the ground to Woolwich ferry stop and 4 miles from Embankment to Paddington. Lost 3lbs!!
  11. QUOTE=RedAndWhite91;446463]How does that work?!?! What Happened to the Corbetts is a novel by Nevil Shute. Written in 1938, and published in April 1939 by William Heinemann Ltd, the novel concerns the effect of aerial bombing on the British city of Southampton - a major maritime centre - in the early part of World War II. The novel addresses the issues of the aftermath of bombing, such as the spread of disease from lack of clean water, and what may be done to relieve the distress of those affected by it. On the initial day of publication, a thousand copies of the novel were distributed free of charge to ARP members to inform them of what they may expect. Peter Corbett, a local lawyer, his wife, Joan, and their three children make the decision to move away from the war zone after their house, and Corbett's offices, are destroyed. They move aboard their small yacht, kept on the river Hamble, but quickly realise that escaping to ports further from Southampton is the only answer. However, because of the fears of cholera and other diseases, many ports are under quarantine. Whilst on the open water of the English Channel, the Corbetts go to the assistance of some downed British naval pilots. Their commanding officer suggests that the family should head for the French port of Brest - where Corbett may volunteer for war service and his family may board a liner for the safety of Canada. They take this advice and the novel closes.
  12. Why do giraffes have furry horns?
  13. If the world is a sphere, why do we consider seals balancing balls on their noses to be clever?
  14. Plenty of heart on sleeve loyal support yesterday
  15. I got slight sunburn from that nasty Charlton sun and my feet ached from walking nearly 15 miles to and from the ground.
  16. That was a big plus yesterday. there were 4 minutes of added time after a number of heavy 2nd half incidents. We spent a good 3 of those in their half and finished the game with a shot from Schneiderlin and missed a gloriouis chance to score with 3 in the box and the ball going to the 1 defender. The team is playing better in longer chunks of the game as players get to know each other. There were some great overlapping runs and more players finding space. Yes, there were still instances of confusion and still too much hoofing, but those instances in terms of the percentage of the game are dropping and there is a lot less fear out there. Charlton showed what is needed in this divison to score goals and create lots of chances - pace (Swindon showed it too and look where they are in the league). We still need some! Their goalkeeper's throwing distribution to put them on the break was reminiscent of Schmeichel. KD still seems to insist on kicking and more often that not we give the ball away. The amount of space on the wings at times was frightening. I could have taken a deckchair out there and watched the match for all the obstruction it would have caused. And when we did use the wing with Thomas coming through - guess what - we scored! Keep the Faith COYS ps The Saints support was excellent and it was a great day out.
  17. Google Earth shows many suburban streets with cars parked, but no parking at the railway station.
  18. So is there no such thing as magic then? Next you'll be telling me there's no Santa, or Batman.
  19. I may just do that on the return journey, being interested in that sort of stuff. Never let it be said that I am not appreciative of a fine Victorian Tunnel.
  20. Is it too late to mention that I am a traffic cop? :---)
  21. My plan is to get the early train to Paddington, then walk down to the river in a 'touristy' way. I am intending to get the ferry back from Woolwich Pier and then walk back to Paddington, perhaps enjoying a meal en route to celebrate our first win of the season.
  22. Left one seems to be suffering a slow puncture. Bloody valve weeping probably. What I'd do is cover it in soapy water and see where the bubbles are coming from.
  23. Yeah, leave the old legs at home eh?
  24. Anyone looking for a different way to get there, I've just researched the Thames River Ferry timings. There is a half hour service from the Embankment to either the O2 centre or the Woolwich Arsenal Pier, both destinations leaving you with about a 2 mile walk to the ground. I shall be aboard the 1228 from the Embankment which gets me to the O2 arena pier at 1318, plenty of time to amble down to the ground. Fare £3-5 single adult; £1.50 - £2.50 child http://www.tfl.gov.uk/modalpages/2648.aspx
