  1. There are only 2 other people who have done it in modern times, how can I come up with more names? You clearly forgot about the people who have also done it and are trying to deflect that. I's like me asking you to name a list of British managers who have won the PL and then mocking you for only providing 2 name!
  2. They are the only two other managers to do this in the modern era. you've asked me to list managers who have done the same, I've done it and now you're picking holes in it. It seems as if you have forgotten about those. As I've said, his ONLY objective for the season when he took over was to win League 1, he didn't do it. This was an objective set by the club and I'd say 90% of Saints fans expected us to win the league in pre-season. Why is it that when we didn't it's not seen as a failure? The fact you think it's unreasonable for a manager that has the whole season (minus 5 games) to win the league with the strongest side by a mile is a little worrying.
  3. Joe Royale too. I was completely aware of Pochettino before he came here. As a player, he was a name that I knew but didn't really follow his career. However, I follow Spanish football quite heavily and certainly knew who he was after his time at Espanyol. You are right that we will never know how we would have finished in the PL under Adkins, however I'm confident we wouldn't have finished 8th the season after. I know a fair bit about the "behind the scenes" stuff when Adkins was in charge, some very interesting stuff that people may/may not know. However, when we was appointed (and let's not forget he WASN'T our first choice manager) his one instruction was to win League 1. We didn't do it. He failed to complete the instructions. Again, I don't know for a fact that Adkins wasn't interested in some of the vacancies, however it seems a bit strange he's gone to SU rather than holding out for a bigger club in a higher position. If you think you're a PL/Championship manager, why join a League 1 team? Also, if a club wanted him that badly they would have made him an offer he couldn't refuse? As for your last point, no everyone else is not wrong, it's a matter of opinions. I think we should have won the league both times, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.
  4. Paul Lambert He had more than enough time to win the league, we didn't. He has to take his blame for it. I know for a fact the board were pretty ****ed off we didn't win either division. Pochettino was a clear upgrade on Adkins. If Adkins was that good we: 1) wouldn't have sacked him 2) he wouldn't be over looked constantly by every Premier league and championship club that has had a managerial position available I pay my membership, I'm allowed my opinion. If you don't agree with it, fine. But you can't go banning people who don't agree with how you think, that's known as totalitarianism. If that's your thing, go live in Russia/North Korea. I make a valid point, as do others that disagree with me. Completely open to a educated debate, others it seems are not.
  5. We played 41 league games whilst Adkins was our manager. Still don't think it's unreasonable to suggest the best team in the league (by quite some way) should claw back a fairly small points tally in 41 games. At the beginning of the season we were odds on favourites to win the league and that view was shared on here by most posters. Going back to the original post, football has a way of finding a persons level very quickly. Adkins is, sadly, nothing more than a league 1/championship manager at best. Good luck to him though.

  7. I'd take him in a heartbeat, natural goal scorer and the type of in-the-no poacher we need. Even if he fails to score, at least it stops him scoring against us!
  8. Apparently stating we should have won the league with the strongest team in the league is a retarded statement. On that basis, all pundits that back Bayern, Barca/Real and City/Chelsea to win the league are equally as retarded?
  9. The only retarded thing here is you using that name for people you don't know...
  10. please explain how it is? My referral to the number of games and comparing it to the length of a PL season is in anticipation of someone saying "but when he took over we had already played x games..."
  11. When did I say that we had 3 games in hand on anyone? Someone with sense, thank you. Inherited a decent squad from Pardew who gets very little credit if none. We should have 2 league titles in our trophy cabinet, yet we have none.
  12. We were linked with a Newcastle 'keeper a few weeks back - could be him? http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3080724/Southampton-step-pursuit-Newcastle-21-goalkeeper-Freddie-Woodman-Saints-look-building-squad-future.html
  13. I have a contact at the club who doesn't really know much about football but hears the odd snippet. I'm led to believe we approached Fulham a few weeks back and were informed that Monaco were sending him back so they were "open to offers" - can imagine he's on a fairly decent wage and makes sense for Fulham to try and get rid. FWIW, I'd be happy with MS as a stop-gap. Certainly not a challenge to FF for the number 1 spot when fit but will certainly do a job for us.
  14. Apart from him playing in Midfield and sharing skin/hair colours he's nothing like Scholes in play. Lazy journalism at it's finest.
  15. We had 41 games still to play when he was appointed, 3 more than in a whole Premier League season. We also had the strongest team in the league by an absolute country mile, I'd even go as far as saying our squad of that season was the strongest that the 3rd tier of English football has ever seen. Anything but promotion in that season would be deemed as a failure by most, for me (an ambitious fan) we should have won the league. Asking the strongest team in the league to close an 8 point gap in 41 points should be no problem.
  16. Maarten sorry, yes. Fulham GK. Mods can we change the spelling of the thread title please?
  17. Apologies if posted before but club have made an official approach for him. Unsure if it's a loan or permanent at the moment.
  18. Very similar situation to that of his appointment at Saints. Anything but promotion is a failure. He's taken over the best team/squad in the league and should win the league. Genuinely think he failed with us in League 1 for not winning the title. It's a good fit for him, yet also a bad fit. If they do well it'll be what's expected, if they struggle he'll be under pressure. Decent club and fans, probably deserve to be in the Championship because of the size of the club. Good luck to both NA and SU anyway.
  19. He's done nothing for about 4 years...
  20. Watch us get knocked out by Inverness in the qualifying rounds now.
  21. His previous twitter handle was @ITKChris
  22. I'm on about League games, as per the original post.
  23. The Classie situation basically mirrors Morgan's. Both very good players who are key to their club. Both sets of fans seem to have resigned themselves to losing said player this summer and will, on the whole, wish them well due to the loyalty they have shown over the last few years. No secret Koeman likes Classie and has probably "tapped" him up (along with Vilhena which is reportedly a done deal barring I's and T's). FWIW, I've seen JC play a few times and he's decent, tough tackling, works hard - bit like a slightly taller/older Harrion Reed but better on the ball. However, he's no Morgan, sadly, who's on a different level.
  24. Teams identified him as the "danger man" around Nov/Dec as they also did with Kane and started to double-mark him. We clearly have a difference in opinions but, for me, a striker who contributes ZERO goals and ZERO assists for 12 games can be considered "missing"
  25. This is a difficult one for me. For obvious reasons I want Arsenal to win, however I'm set to win over £2,000 should Villa lift the cup which'll ease the pain of us missing out on Europe!
