  1. it's snowing in dorset
  2. Didn't they try and destroy the Earth in the 70s when they appeared in Moonraker?
  3. If the staff are genuinely unable to get to work, tough.
  4. Hey I'm in CID I don't investigate fraud. . One of Horn rimmed Harry's mates has the fraud squad on this I'm sure
  5. Basically we are underprepared for snow because we get nowhere near enough snow for it to be a problem. We don't get enough so we are not accustomed to it. Apart from the odd day when it first comes down before the main roads are gritted you can manage ok so long as your fully prepared
  6. I think it's more to do with the quantity of snow ploughs and salt that they have. Our stocks were running out in January and the snow was only here about 10 days. In Finland for example they have snow 4-5 months of the year. It takes 2 years to get a full driving licence there and you have to be able to powerslide just to get the most basic licence. There's no point in us spending millions on more snowploughs and importing millions of tonnes of more salt, forcing tyre companies to buy and sell spiked/studded tyres in this country and changing the driving test to Finnish like standards, only to have a small dusting of snow once every few years for the next two decades. During the snow in January I had to go out in my wife's car (1 litre Nissan Micra) for the majority of the days the roads were covered in snow. After the first day and the majority of hills had been gritted I managed absolutely fine by driving carefully, wrapping up warm and having a load of cardboard in the boot to put under the tyres if I got stuck. That's if helpful passers-by didn't see me first.
  7. It's because we rarely get it in large quantities and when we do we are totally unprepared for it. On the other side of the coin how much condemnation would a council get for spending millions of snow removing equipment only for no snow to lay for the next decade
  8. Isn't the Storrie case supposed to be involving the Amdy Faye signing on fee going straight into Storrie's bank account amongst other things?
  9. No, I'm merely the forum detective.
  10. I take it you've looked into the possibility of PMing them first
  11. If they sent a nuke into a South Korean city the nuclear fallout would damage North Korea practically as much as the South. For example the after effects of the Chernobyl explosion went far beyond the borders of the Ukraine let's just say. To say it'd be like trying to kill someone with a stick of dynamite whilst standing next to it yourself is an understatement. Besides as soon as the rocket went into the sky he'd care far more about the US, Russians and South Koreans, invading and toppling his regime, that's if the regime didn't die of the ill effects of the nuclear explosion first. The regime may be eccentric and may torture any of their own citizens that doesn't love Kim-Jong-Il but they aren't that daft. Anyway, it is widely believed the North Koreans don't have the technology to mount nuclear material on a rocket. They play the nuclear missile card every time they want to gain an advantage in any negotiations. I haven't seen them nuke the South Koreans after all the previous border skirmishes they've had. If the US and South Koreans were that concerned about the North Korean sending a nuclear missile into Busan or Seoul they wouldn't be carrying out provocative military exercises on the North/South Korean border and poking the dragon.
  12. we get snow regularly in the winter but it is rarely enough to start laying.
  13. Seoul is only 80 miles from the North Korean border. If they attacked Seoul with any nuclear device they'd be practically attacking themselves
  14. What? Snow a regular occurrence in the winter? Who'd have thought it? I doubt we'll get much down here if any. Last year's snowfall was a once in 20 years episode.
  15. I think you must have read 'Alaska'
  16. hope they claimed that through the insurance and didn't try the old trick of ringing you up and demanding an extortionate amount of money to have it replaced/repaired or they'd go to the police.
  17. anyone know how Mandaric's and 'arry's cases are going?
  18. my brother had someone drive into his car in a B&Q store about 7-8 years ago and they drove off without leaving details. He went to the police with a photo of the damage, a photo of where his car was parked in relation to the nearest CCTV camera and an exact timescale of when it could have happened (approx 30 min window). A short while later he received a letter saying the person responsible had been caught on camera and prosecuted for leaving the scene of an accident without reporting it. I think they ended up with a hefty fine.
  19. What about 'arry's court case?
  20. Is out today! After literally years of waiting!
  21. Yes, the tinpot communist dictatorship vs the decadent capitalists with the American imperialists. If it wasn't true it would make a great story
  22. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Korea_demilitarized_zone The bit about the Korean Wall is interesting. The US and South Koreans deny it even exists but it's been confirmed by almost every journalist who has gone to North Korea, irrespective of how keen the North Korean guides have been to point it out
  23. The South's army with the yanks have been doing fairly provocative military exercises right on the Korean border recently The North fired up to 100 artillery shells on a disputed island straddling the maritime border that the North has never recognised, the south fired back. They've frequently had skirmishes there. Reports at half 7 on Sky News were saying one South Korean soldier has been killed, 3 seriously wounded, and a further 15 or so moderately wounded. As for the North launching a nuclear missile, Seoul is only 90 miles away from the border so any nuclear explosion there would be seriously detrimental to the North in more ways than one. it's widely thought the North Korean missiles with the longest range can only hit Alaska. Besides it's also widely thought the North don't have the technology to load nuclear fuel on to missiles yet anyway.
  24. Hey' I'd already started a thread on this somewhere. Great win for Waites, he'll be a PDC player within a few months and playing in the premier league
