  1. I remember in the summer when Norwich and Swansea 'won' the transfer window.
  2. I think there are lots of bits and pieces at Chelsea that we'd be interested in. When you look at the sheer number of players they have out on loan and youngsters who are talented but not going to be given their chance, if we could get 2-3 of them as a part of a deal I think we could really benefit in the long-term. Look at what happened with Matic - went to Benfica as a part of the Luiz deal and then Chelsea spent £20m+ to buy him back a few years later. I'm somewhat resigned to losing Shaw come the summer, but if we can get something like £30m for him it would be great business given the circumstances (and also thanks to Luke himself for signing the 5 year deal last summer when he had no reason to have to). Look at this list of players alone: Chalobah Atsu Moses Lukaku Paizon Bertrand Marin All of them are on loan elsewhere. Maybe for their development, but maybe also because they aren't close enough to the Chelsea first team long-term. Maybe some would have no interest in coming here, but we can try. Wages could be an issue given FFP compliance (and that Shaw won't be on mega-money with us at the moment) but if we just took Chelsea's money alone it may be an opportunity missed.
  3. Actually, to be fair I forgot Schneiderlin was subbed against Norwich when we were chasing the game and Davis came on for him. But overall I wouldn't use the evidence of the subs that Cork didn't have a future with Saints, but more than he is further down the pecking order when both Schneiderlin and Wanyama are fit. However, I don't think that was the point of the OP - I think his point was based on his interpretation that Cork is forth or fifth choice for a central midfield spot, which is clearly incorrect.
  4. The only time one of Wanyama or Schneiderlin were subbed in a league game was against Hull where Davis came on for Wanyama as Wanyama was carrying an injury. The rest of the time neither came off until Wanyama was injured with the broken foot.
  5. Ask Michael Dawson. Gallagher went through him like a hit knife through butter within seconds of coming on against Spurs. Knew from that moment I'd like him
  6. Listened to it on the radio but Maya and Hooiveld both scared the living **** out of me.
  7. I hope Lambert is having a rest and doesn't have a knock. Jay leads the line in a different way - I quite like the balance in the team though. Lots of players who can interchange and pull the opposition out of their shape.
  8. It's definitely set-up for him isn't it? One of the more controversial two week periods in the modern history of the club and at the end of it Guly comes back from injury to score the winner in the Cup
  9. Signed. With the increase in cost of following your team (ticket prices and travel) the least you should expect is the date for a game to be set without change (unless subject to things like cup runs etc.) The lack of respect for the fans that attend games is becoming a concern.
  10. A fair point but I think in that case seeing your player attack an abusive fan has a different impact on the group than seeing your player attack one of his own. Never say never as you say but I can't see it myself if it is true that the players want him gone (and there is no reason to disbelieve that based on the source).
  11. When you read about his relationship with the players and the group mentality he instils, there is no way he can back a player isolated from the group. This may be wishful thinking, but I think if he is willing to cast aside Osvaldo for the greater good it may tighten his relationship with the group which could be of benefit in the summer when players (and his) futures will come up.
  12. You have to go by others reactions. If the other members of the squad are shaken up enough by it to want him out then that is enough in my opinion to get rid of him. These are grown men and disagreements and confrontations happen all the time in football. But to see your team mate attack another team mate by headbutting him and punching him is out of order. These are a tight bunch of players so to see that happen would be shocking and would make you wonder when it can happen again. You just don't want that.
  13. Have taken a look at Inter's squad to see what strikers they have. These two don't play much - are they any good? Ishak Belfodil Mauro Icardi
  14. Sam McQueen. He's a winger.
  15. Training Ground pics show McQueen, Gallagher, and Turnbull training with the first team for this one.
  16. It doesn't feel like shocking news given his reputation, but what is more disappointing is that my initial reaction when I heard it involved Fonte is that I thought 'I hope Fonte is ok to play' and that is the crux of the issue - Fonte is far more important to us right now and if anyone had said that back in the summer they'd have likely been ridiculed. But the truth is that Osvaldo has not made the impact we'd hoped and that is the most disappointing thing.
  17. Many of our Development squad are nearly ready for more first team action, I'd personally be delighted to see some of them given a chance in this game.
  18. Oh yeah - didn't notice there was a difference in who was responding. Don't know who SL is to be fair. Should probably edit the thread title to say 'Someone at Bristol City'
  19. I don't think it would garner much interest if he bemoaned it. But to accuse us of cheating is strong via an official channel. If we aren't breaking any rules then surely we can't be cheating and his accusations are unfounded?
  20. Bristol City are doing a twitter Q&A this evening with Steve Cotterill, their Manager. This exchanged occurred: If I recall correctly the Premier League gave us special dispensation to set-up an Academy in Bath after we said the old rules around having to live within 1.5hrs of the ground disadvantaged us due to half our catchment area being the English Channel. I think we got lucky in that respect. However, regardless of the merit of the discussion as to whether it should still exist should an official clubs twitter account be used as a vehicle to accuse us of cheating?
  21. In the last minute of added time Saints won a corner. They decided to try and run the clock down and took it short to Stephens. He ran the ball into the corner and was doing well shielding it before a Bolton player had enough and went right through the back of him - a foul born out of frustration but a foul nonetheless. Stephens got up and fronted up to the player and then other players got involved. A Bolton player was running quite fast to get involved and Moore didn't like that so just as the Bolton player got there he shoved him quite hard and nearly launched him into the hoardings That blew it up some more but eventually it cooled down however the verbals kept going. Mostly handshakes all round at the final whistle but there were still a few confrontations going.
  22. The Guardian have now picked up on this: http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/jan/21/southampton-ice-hockey-ralph-krueger-motivation?CMP=twt_gu
  23. I'd agree with that assessment. It was a very comfortable night bar having to weather the 15min storm after the break as Bolton clearly got a bollocking at half time. We should have been out of sight at the break though. I was sat opposite the dugouts in the mini-stand amongst the scouts and local 'types'. I was heading towards the exit during added time and I was right in the corner when the big fight broke out
  24. His play in the first half was very good considering he is just getting back into things. Can't work out if he is quick or moves fast because of a large stride but defenders find it very hard to get the ball off him.
  25. I was at the game tonight. After Martin scored he ran over to celebrate with someone on the bench. I think it was Martin Hunter but I am not 100% sure.
