Saints 2-3 Liverpool - Match Thread
Pamplemousse replied to Weston Super Saint's topic in The Saints
https://www.redandwhitekop.com/forum/index.php?topic=356878.0 Just seen this. A respectful opening post about us -
We've probably already reached the point where sacking RM would be pointless because nobody better would want to come in.

That and whatever train disruption occurs because of this storm. It's going to be wet and windy in any case. Might suit us, who knows. -

Why does everyone keep banging on about ABK? A) he's not that great and b) he doesn't want to play for us, move on. -
Disagree RE Alcaraz. He was OK, but often went missing in games. Selling him in and bringing in Fernandes was definitely the right decision.

Sheffield United got thrashed 8-0 by Newcastle, Arsenal 5-0, Burnley (!) 5-0 , Aston Villa 5-0, Brighton 5-0, Arsenal 6-0 and Newcastle 5-1. We're not as bad as them, I know we lost 5-0 twice last season but we've not looked as bad as some of those displays above (yet).

Aaron Ramsdale - Official: Loaned to Newcastle

At least it's McCarthy coming in and not Bazunu. I know he's not great but he can at least make a few saves. Hopefully Martin will be a bit more pragmatic and we'll be forced to kick it long. May not be a bad thing against high-pressing teams we're coming up against. -
We're obviously not going to sack him then. The board though must be aware the fans' patience is wearing thin.
-
We need to change to a counter attacking style, it's obvious to everyone how we play is doomed.
-
Maybe they feel we're likely to lose most of the next few games anyway so will stick it out until after then. Hopefully we get a result against Liverpool but if we do lose, it needs to be a thrashing. A narrow 1-0 loss will be acceptable in the eyes of the board.

The set up away from home is all wrong. We've lost every game and we've put in the exact same performance against Brentford, Bournemouth and Wolves. Ironically, the games where we've looked OK away were Newcastle, Arsenal (for the first 60 mins) and Man City where we were a bit more defensive. It's pretty obvious that we need to change tactically but the manager can't see it, despite the shocking results.

I've got a Football Manager save going atm where Southampton's manager for a few years (I'm in the 2030s) has been David Wagner and he's taken them to multiple top 4 finishes and Europa League glory. In real life, given he was shit with Norwich last season, I'd say no, but maybe the computer knows best
-
Exactly. They got Martin right last season as we did get promoted but this next managerial appointment has to be right. Don't go too clever, either get someone like Moyes or someone from Europe. If it's someone like Mark Robins I will give up.
-
Makes zero sense, we were amazing at home last season for the most part.
-
We absolutely won't sack him though, the board are just as clueless.
-
I've had enough. How we play is so fucking tedious. Funny how we looked a threat in the final 5 minutes when we went direct. We need a change of tactics and Martin won't change it so the decision should be easy for the board.
-
We've been done over by the ref 100% but that doesn't excuse the rest of the game. I've had enough. Time to go Martin.

The first year of Donald Trump's first term was 2017 and we reached a League Cup final. History is going to repeat itself, but hopefully with a different outcome in the final.
-
Interesting about the keeper situation, their keeper Sa can't play out from the back (echos of McCarthy) and they don't rate Johnstone at all. Looks like we dodged a bullet on that one, thank fuck we managed to get Ramsdale. Ramsdale is a West Brom fan so he'll be up for this one
-
Hopefully with a win and clean sheet under our belts, we'll have a bit more confidence. We have lost every away game and put in some stinkers but reckon we'll be OK. Entertaining score draw.

This is an amusing watch. 46 mins for our goal

I don't think he's been that great this season but today he was phenomenal. Bazunu in goal and we lose that game, having a top keeper will make all the difference. -
Knew there would be these types of moronic comments. So when we don't win it's always his fault, but when we do win he has nothing to do with it. Right.
-
Not our best performance of the season but we got the job done. Most importantly, maybe in the long run, for me it was keeping a clean sheet. We still need to improve but hopefully we go to Wolves (winless) with a bit of confidence and if we get something it'll be a good outcome.
