  1. Funny thing is I just used the picture on Steve Grant's own Facebook post.
  2. And the back page of the actual paper, for even more impact:
  3. There's clear evidence now that it was in the South Indian Ocean, and given that has been corroborated by the AAIB, that's good enough for me. To progress any other theory, especially some of the more outlandish conspiracies going around, would require would require some pretty good evidence from a similar organisation. But there is none. Each to their own. It's important to keep an open mind on any subject, especially when there is a lack of alternatives, but when the pursuance of a conspiracy such as this would go against the worlds leading Accident Investigation organisation, you have to ask why you think it is still worth pursuing, and whether you really want to accuse them of being complicit in something like that.
  4. Close, but not that close.
  5. Brief interview on the radio with a representative from Inmarsat, said they looked at the doppler effect of the signals to and from the satellite, and compared this with other aircraft signals in both northern and southern corridors, which led them to conclude that the signals must have been coming from the southern corridor.
  6. It will be interesting to learn exactly what this 'type of analysis never before used in an investigation of this sort' is... clearly it has not been as simple as an actual position fix, but some kind of interpretation and extrapolation of data. As sad as it is to learn of the aircraft's fate, as is often the case with such occurrences, I hope some good will come of it.
  7. A bit more - this is solely based on Inmarsat data it seems, not debris.
  8. Let's just hope that they can find the black box soon.
  9. ... would suggest that the debris found has been confirmed to belong to MH370.
  10. Come on Northampton...
  11. 90th in the English league structure. 90th.
  12. Yeah, we already listen to a few stations hosted by Live365... I just wondered if anyone had any specific recommendations.
  13. I don't know Eric, but having worked in ATC I can confirm that some of the controllers WERE small hairy goblins...
  14. To be fair, I don't think anyone is proposing action at all. My position was always simply that laws should be abided by, whoever it is. As a result, I pretty much agree with your post on the whole subject (and from my far more limited knowledge). Can you summarise?
  15. I'll happily admit that my knowledge on the area and the wider issues is not great, so I'm in no position to challenge what you say. And VFTT has a point about Palestine/West Bank etc. It's all pretty depressing really.
  16. I don't think anyone has mentioned anything about Red Dawn good guy/bad guys until you... at a very basic level this is about a country having internal issues, in which the International community should not have needed to intervene. But one country did intervene, aligned with their own self-interest, so now others are responding.
  17. I agree entirely, and it is very complicated and I'm not professing that Russia are the only 'bad guys'... clearly what happened in Ukraine was not entirely legitimate, but in terms of INTERNATIONAL relations, Russia were the first to 'act' in Ukraine so I would be more concerned if that were allowed to pass unchallenged. I also fully recognise that our role in Iraq etc was probably illegal too and I'm not going to defend that. But that doesn't stop me feeling that ANY nation who breaks the law shouldn't be held to account in some way. Hypo - I think you're being a bit simplistic about it... it's not a case of leave them to it or else it's World War 3. As JB says, it is complex, but 'do nothing' is not an option IMO.
  18. Two separate issues. I agree that if that is what a clear majority of people want then there should be a discussion and subsequent legal process to determine that and possibly make it happen. But ultimately that area is part of Ukraine, and therefore comes under the Ukrainian governments rule and they are the ones who must allow it to happen. What's the point of having international law otherwise?
  19. You may well be right, but what next? What does a future look like where Russia does almost whatever it wants and the rest of the world does nothing? I realise that's a pretty big question, but its also the basis for what the EU and US are doing now... they can't be seen to do nothing, so what do they do?

    Expats...

I realise I'm not an expat and not outside these shores, but I use Unotelly so I can watch BeInSports... have you looked at that?
  21. Fair points, I'm not sure how we can 'compare' any one situation with another over there particularly, but the issue here is how Russia steamed in and influenced the process... if there was to be any intervention in the area it should be done through the UN and in an agreed manner... but we know why Russia is doing this, hence why, now, intervention is being supported by 13 of the 15 members of the UN Security Council, whilst China, although abstaining, still made a clear statement about support for Ukraine and further diplomatic discussion.
  22. But the point is that the people taking part in sport are doing so primarily to win, not to entertain, and they will do so in the way they feel is best... sometimes that will be entertaining, sometimes not, and sometimes it will depend on the relative tactics/performance etc. But you know that. At the cinema or a gig, the participants are primarily there to entertain, nothing else.
  23. I've read about that, certainly the fears seem to be that the Tatars could well be 'cleansed', so I understand the fears, but as buctootim says, I think the first issue still remains dealing with the illegal process that has taken place thus far... the whole thing is moving so fast though. I'm not honestly sure what other sanctions are available, but I am all for the EU and US taking things as far as they feel they can, because Russia can't be allowed to flout international law in this way. I agree that the majority of people in Crimea do clearly want to be part of Russia, but that has to be done via a fair and legal referendum, with Kiev's authority.
  24. Are they being economical with the truth? Do you know the truth? If not, how do you know they're being economical with it? And even if they are, why do you think that is? Could there not be good reason for it? Like it or not, releasing information into the public domain can sometimes work against an operation or investigation, especially if there are exterior factions at work here, who are perhaps also watching developments. I don't know any more than anyone else, but I am pretty sure that with assistance from numerous countries, Malaysia are doing and saying everything they are for a reason and I for one think they should be given the benefit of the doubt.
