Transfer deadline day thread (Summer 2013)
alpine_saint replied to Ivan Katalinic's 'tache's topic in The Saints
You made the big proclamation about the quality of the transfer window, I simply argued it may prove to tbe the opposite. Its too early to tell. -You have no idea how Osvaldo will work out. -Worst case, we lose Cork and his understanding with Morgan, impossible to be recreated by Morgan and VW. -We dont replace what Puncheon gives us on the right. -

C'mon Colin. You really telling me there isnt a little part of you, deep down, that doesnt think if it was going to work out with him, we would be seeing signs of it already ? -

That would have papered over the cracks. Personally, I think it is too early to judge Osvaldo and VW, I was somewhat playing Devils Advocate. But IMO the Ramirez transfer is clearly going to end in tears. He's failed to start a season well now twice, and next summer it will be some other bullsh*t excuse that prevents him doing a proper pre-season. Oh yes, theres a World Cup going on next door to Uruguay... -

What a mature and dignified response to an expressed opinion. But thanks for quoting, it means all the fingers-in-ears lalala brigade who love to attract attention by posting that they have me on ignore will have seen my post -

How can you say that ? Its nonsense. Puncheon has gone. If Cork goes, Gashton stays and VW and Osvaldo dont deliver (still a bit worried that Osvaldo allegeldy turned us down twice), I think its a candidate for our WORST window in history... -
Fair enough, but he got us further down the road than Gashton....

Did they ? So you are inferring that these players arent doing very well. *Looks at Premier League table* Oh, wait... -

Thanks for proving my long-standing case about getting players in at the beginning of pre-season. I thank you.... -
Did Marilyn's baps ever leave him with black eyes ?

I can play in Puncheons role, doesnt mean I am any good at it. And it also doesnt belie the fact he was one of our best performing pre-season players, whereas Gashton had his feet up for almost the entire duration. And doesnt it show... Never mind, he's pretty to look at, when the elbows arent flying. -

I expected the signings we've already secured to be having a better impact on the team and the results than they are. And I didnt know we'd undertake the act of crass stupidity in letting one of our best-performing pre-season players (Puncheon, in case you were wondering to whom I refer) out on loan without having a decent replacement in that role. Seems to me Saints players shoudl be sh*te in pre-season; Billy Sharp was rewarded with a Spanish Archer for his good pre-season last year... -

Quite depressing seeing most other PL teams linked with players and nothing referring to us. -

I've kept out of this thread till now, but this is codswallop. Some of those from the "majority" hunt in packs just as much as the "WUMs" and "trolls"

Stoke have signed Marko Arnautovic from Werder Bremen. We should have gone for him. He's big, strong and fast. I reckon he will do well in the PL. -
Well, I certainly wouldnt shed a tear.

As has been said, Lovren has had the easiest opportunity to make a positive impact, because our defence was so pants last season. I thought VW looked strong and good at holding the ball in the Villach games; I think he will come good, but I am worried that the Morgan/Cork partnetship was another Claus/Killer moment for us so although getting VW looks good on paper, it actually detracts something fromthe team when he plays. For me, we clearly improved last season when Cork came back from Olympic injury. Osvaldo I know nothing about as a player, but I reckon he has been brought in to enable the team to play in a certain way, which is now being hampered by Rickie's England call up; you cant really drop Rickie, its a prestige thing, but him and Osvaldo cant play together. My feeling is that the signings will come good, but they need to be used juidiciously and apolitically; just because they cost so much money, doesnt mean they should play for the sake of it and disrupt the team. I just hope they dont have "must play" clauses. Ramirez, on the other hand, simply isnt going to work however long we give it...

Despite what the urban legend says round here, I rarely report stuff to the mods. So, go ahead and do your worst. I'm shaking in my boots here...

Letting Puncheon go, an area where we already had limited options, is beginning to have a Fitz Hall feel about it....

There is also anecdotal evidence that the French were tipping off the Serbians during the Balkan war about US air patrols and attacks. This was vaguely alluded to in the film "Behind Enemy Lines" starring Gene Hackman and Owen Wilson.

My paternal grandfather is also American. I'll call them what I f**king want. Especially if its true. I actually think VW is trying to be funny here, since the only slightly dubious comment I made was what I called the French.

On top form today, Kraks..
