  1. I have vivid memories of the loss of all the ships in the Falklands. Sheffield was by far the worst emotional impact; first RN ship lost to battle since WW2, and the previous feeling of invincibility because of the sinking of the Belgrano, sinking of the sub and sheer innocence of youth. Seeing pictures of the burnt-out shell. Ardent was shock by sheer virtue of how much punishment she received, the utter smashing of her aft decks. The image of Antelope exploding in the dark stayed with me for years, thinking of Warrant Officer Phillips and Staff Sergeant Prescott going through the fleet, squeezing into nooks and crannies defusing bombs only to come across one too many. Coventry capsizing - she looked to big for that to happen to this 12 year old. Captain North of the Atlantic Conveyor, looking just like Father Christmas off-duty, and every bit the image of a sea-faring captain. The horrible injuries of the Welsh guards being evacuated off the burning hulks of RFA Sir Tristam and Sir Galahad...
  2. I just tried it on the TI calculator here in my desk, and it comes up with the right result, but only because it lets me put in more than one operator and I need to press "=" to get the result. Most devices calculate the result when you press the second operator nowadays.
  3. Sod the "advanced way", its more to do with a society that cant put its phone down and uses it for everything.
  4. How can any electronic device get that right ? they all calculate intermediate results. The written order defines the addition to be first. The person typing it in needs to know BO(I)DMAS. I bet you've had many a nite crowded round the coffee table with the Special Brew and ganga debating the phillosophy behind that..
  5. Sounds like some Yank perversion to me. But you are right, BIDMAS seems to be equally valid.
  6. That's correct, but you wrote 6.
  7. Seriously, who gives a f**k ? The Olympics has dented my love of football, but trashed it completely for the national side. Come on Moldova.
  8. Seems the ECB have got fat, complacent and arrogant with their #1 status in some forms of the game.
  9. what do you think the "i" stood for ? I cant work our how you came up with 6 either
  10. B - Brackets first O - Orders D - Division M - Mulitplication A - Addition S - Subtraction
  11. Its 7
  12. I visted HMS Amazon when she was on an official visit to Soton (adopted by the city). Nice looking ship, fairly useless in war.
  13. Whachyoutalkingaboutwillis ? We've just spent 30m big ones on our attack.
  14. Yep, big catchment area, great youth set-up, great stadium. Pity the radio station and the catering the envy of the Premiership was already gone, but WTF we were still a good investment.
  15. If he does sign and he makes it to the top, it will make a superb terrace chant.
  16. During the Falklands all the soldiers that did the fighting left from Southampton. Your boys just sat on their ships waiting for the Exocets.
  17. Damn, beat me to it, I was about to start singing that song from When Harry Met Sally.
  18. Unbelievable... Are they just signing anyone available on a freebie now ? Surely there isnt enough hours in a day for Voldermort to conduct all theses trials and focus on getting the team playing on match-day
  19. All persecution is wrong.
  20. Well, you make a compelling argument I have to say. Pity Woy with his pathetic traditional big-club mentality wont see it that way.
  21. On paper, that has to be the worst in living memory. We still had an outside chance for the Double, and who knows in which direction the club would have gone after that if we'd got it ? I still remember don Revie writing us off as a small club in the Grandstand pre-season review of clubs on the day the next season started (the c**t...) However, having only dim memories of it, I would have to say the 2003 Cup Final (what could have been) and of course after Van Nistelrooy scored in our last game of the PL relegation season. I wasnt there, but it must have been pretty bad after Villa scored the winner a few weeks earlier too; many fans must have known the fat lady was clearing her throat then. Strangely, these all pale in comparison to my feelings after the penalty shoot-outs in Italia 90 and Euro 96. For some reason these were very painful.
  22. The last 3 posts are all valid comments. Personally, I think the Venables / Hoddle f**king about of Matty had a detrimental effect on his performance during the later stages of his Saints career. And I certainly wouldnt want to see that for Rickie.
  23. I seem to recall a few people saying the same about the sash kit.
  24. I dont hate anyone on here, thought there are a few that I view as being complete bellends. Hate is a very strong word; I am always correcting my kids for using it. Whilst I am not averse to using the word "love", it seems bit inappropriate to use it in the context of internet personas. I value very much the contributions from a select view on here, CB Fry and adriansfc (when they are not attacking me) come immediatley to mind, but there are others. Oh, and the site wouldnt be the same without Dune, in whichever personna he is masquerading at any time.
