  1. Where what cap fits what? The cap of your stereotype fits the situation you have imagined in your mind?
  2. At least that couldn't happen under UKIP
  3. Robert Hood - Minimal Nation It never gets old.
  4. Ha! I was about to post some Holly Herndon. That album's fantastic.
  5. Well this is a considerably better start to a test. And the reversal of that baffling decision to play Bresnan in preference to Monty pays big dividends straight away. This Pujara fella is awesome though, looks like a genuine star in the making. I wonder if any of the England top order can bat as carefully and as unflappably on this wicket? It's the sort of situation where you really want Cook to step up and dictate the tone and pace of the innings.
  6. That was refreshing. They are shower of qunts and no mistake.

The Football Ramble - Far and away the best football journalism available. Even the presence of a hugely biased skate on the panel can't detract from its brilliance. Funny, erudite and passionate. The Bugle - Sharply cuddly satire. Richard Herring's Me1 vs Me2 Snooker - A window into the soul of every one of us.
  9. What England have missed recently is Paul Collingwood. Not so much for his place in the the batting line-up, although the frequency of middle order collapses has increased alarmingly without his obdurate stickability, but more for the way he kept the whole team honest. The hallmark of the ascendant England team of 2010-11 was how they were absolutely on it for every delivery, with bat or ball. They never let the opposition settle. I don't think they have that any more. Teams are allowed to get in their own groove, England are sloppy in the field and give up too easily.
  10. I've never understood the point of them either. Why, when batting gets really tricky, do you bring a bowler in to do it? I can understand you wouldn't want to lose another top order batsman in a hurry, but by bringing in a tail-ender you're inviting the loss of another wicket, at which point you'll have to bring in the top order anyway. I think it's a relic of the last century that'll fade away; with the rise of T20 it's getting harder to find genuine, patient, time-serving batsmen at the top of the order, let alone expecting blockers amongst the tail.
  11. Does anyone know when we're likely to get some results in?

  13. To be fair, they're commissioning the police as well, so they've got the whole business sewn up. Saves any of the rest of us getting involved. Seems like a pretty neat solution to the problem.
  14. They are hard work. I don't think it would be too controversial to say that he was not a great writer, but was possessed of a great imagination. The Hobbit is much more brisk and fun though. For me, The Silmarillion (and the rest of the middle earth stuff) was a step too far. An extended history and mythology in the hands of anyone except a really top quality prose stylist is always going to feel like an academic exercise.
  15. Have a go on this one...
  16. I'm not questioning you, your patriotism, or any of that. It's just that your link appears to be a very long article and, after getting a few pages down, all I'd seen was the Royal family ACCUSED! of being part-German, ACCUSED! of having changed their name c.100 years ago, and ACCUSED! of being ashamed of mental illness in their family. All of which may be true, but I couldn't see the relevance. And as the writer had such an appalling, eye-burning style and a penchant for confusing nicknames, I wondered if you could save me the trouble of reading it and maybe give me a precis?
  17. I've got a few paragraphs through that. Can you tell me if it contains anything relevant and/or provable, or if it just carries on being borderline-xenophobic scurrell?
  18. Can anyone seriously believe this is a case of mistaken identity? That a man who for 20 years has been trying to bring serious allegations of abuse against a senior political figure, has managed to live in total isolation from any pictures of that political figure? That, in this age of the internet and Google/Schofield searches, he has just now realised that he was accusing the wrong man? It just doesn't ring at all true. I've seen lots of pictures of McAlpine over the years, yet I've had absolutely no reason to go searching for them.

  20. Ah, didn't know we had one of these threads... I'm a Dolphins fan, ever since watching Marino when I was a kid. They've started alright this year; the new QB Tannehill looked a little shaky in the first couple of games but now he's settled down he seems to have all the hallmarks of quality. Strong on defence, building momentum and a couple of tight OT losses from a much better record. They'll not conquer the world but I think they'll end up clinching a close AFC East.
