Looks like he's having a problem making a call on our 3 CB's, and rather than make the tough choice (which is to drop Stephens), he's decided to chicken out and change everything to fit him in. We look okay in possession, but its definitely impacting our attacking play.

Leeds winning

Norwich certainly looking the more dangerous atm. Manning's complete absence of defensive positioning is going to give me a heart attack 🤣 Need to get our noses in front!
-
Norwich almost score again. Imagine if they had wingers and strikers with a bit better product in the final 3rd 😰!!
-
Edozie's lucky he didn't get a broken ankle tbh. Hopefully not ligament damage.
-
Manning's defensive positioning is a real worry
-
Spin in how you want, but that is the reality. Lucky flag just saved us there. Unless we introduce a bit more penetration, we're playing into the norwich manager's plans tbh. If they had better players up front they'd likely have score by now.

Lots of possession, but no real chances. Whereas Norwich have had two dangerous breaks. I know we're on top, but need to get a couple of goals to be sure of the win.

A customary, "Lets be having you!!!!" and lets go!

Nice one! Saved me a tenner...

So what you're saying, is that we absolutely do not want Martin to get mananger of the month? 😂
-
Tbf to QPR, they're a tidy side under the new mananger. The game we played them at Portman road was a tough one - defensively solid, but they've got some good / dangerous players (chair / paal for example). Was a good win for us and I'd expect them to move up the table!

Our games at Ipswich, Leicester, Leeds will have a huge say in it.

Very good weekend for saints!

Another 8min injury time at Ipswich? Seems to happen a lot! (sounds like a fan collapsed in the stands again at halftime - hopefully they're okay!)
-
Agree. Although we showed a lot of complacency today and I hope Martin calls them out on it and we see it being stamped out. Ruthless saints is what I want to see. People moaning about baz, but our attacker's missed about 3-4 guilt edged chances as well. Plymouth should have been dead, buried, and forgotten about long before baz's error.
-
Obviously they'll have a word, but they won't tear him down for it 🙄. It's how they want him to play and it's all about judgement and experience. "it's not acceptable" - so what, do some of you want to drop him and give him an absolute bollocking? even ederson has made howlers in recent seasons and he's one of the world's top goalkeepers and the finished product. The lad is going to make mistakes, be glad it was today.
-
There are excuses. He's a very young keeper learning his trade and he has to make these mistakes to learn... And yes, it's a bad error, but he's already shown he's cutting them out and getting better. The whole performance was a bit weird - almost like they're getting too comfortable and believing the hype - We were very wasteful in front of goal and lacked a lot of killer instinct - the reality is we could and probably should have anywhere between 4 and 7 goals on a different day. Once the 2nd went the whole side went into 2nd gear and took their feet off the gas... Not just baz. Fraser's miss is as bad as that goal we conceded really, especially given relative experiences. I suspect Martin really wasn't very happy and let them know they need to be more professional and ruthless etc. In the dressing room. Anyway, saints have always been a side that develops young payers and tearing them down at every opportunity sn't part of that... A lot of fans forget this with baz.

Not good enough. Smallbone and Adams the week links that are holding us back this game. Manning as well to a lesser extent, but not as bad as the other two. Edozie again our best outlet, alcaraz and kwp dictating a lot of play with Armstrong. But with Che and smallbone either wasting chances or killing our attacks it's just not enough atm.
-
Surely we just need to get in full back cover - for both sides ideally? Replacing Adams with someone who actually scores most chances would be great.
-
Fans can't take to Southgate because he's fucking useless 😅😆.
-
Yeah, I agree I haven't seen him sulking. But I do think he thinks he's better than he is. The championship can be the making of creative players (look at lallana, grealish, benrahama etc in recent years) - but they've got to embrace it to get the most of it. Whereas I do think sulemana does feel its beneath him and that he won't be here for long (probably true).
-
As part of the only circa 5% that voted not to sack him at the start of the season (!), I think it goes to show that as fans we can be too hasty when calling for quite drastic changes and ignoring mitigating circumstances - and I think that is the message to take from the whole thing. And don't get me wrong, I was absolutely livid at our defending during that brief period earlier in the season (Ipswich, Leicester, sunderland etc) as well. But the reality was we did have huge player turnover, lots of changes at all level of the club, low squad morale to turn around, and a new/different style to adapt to. I'm glad he was given the time, and obviously glad he has really started to come good on early promise / shown progress / delivered on early promise. I still think there is more to come from his team / style, and thankfully we've started to be a lot more ruthless in games and taken our chances to get more than 1 ahead. But it would also be willfully blind to ignore some of the absolute guilt edged chances we still gift the opposition in matches - eventually we're going to regret this in a match or vs higher quality opposition. The challenge ofc now is to deliver promotion (which hasn't changed), although I think we will achieve automatics playing as we are... And who knows, if we keep going (and Leicester slip up) then we might go all the way. Hopefully the above positivity doesn't come back to bite me and we suddenly embark on a poor run.

A comparison to previous Championship seasons after 22 games
Saint86 replied to Barsiem's topic in The Saints
That is also my thoughts at the moment. Ipswich will fall away, and I think we are in better shape than Leeds. At least I hope 😅. I fear our current/general lack of killer instinct in games is unlikely to see us through the playoff compared to your more ruthless/practiced championship plodders. -
Saints 4 actual goals vs 0 Blackburn - Match Thread
Saint86 replied to Convict Colony's topic in The Saints
In the style front - I just didn't enjoy watching them - they were fantastic footballers obviously, but they also "cheated" a lot, and they were also incredibly boring to watch most of the time imo.... When paired with the fact that they asked for every foul going / dived / play acted, and were then really niggly off the ball themselves etc, I just found them to be very unsporting and routinely wanted them to lose. I much preffered the Spain (who I would personally say are the best side of recent years / that I've enjoyed the most) as they were more attacking and purposeful in their play, and they didn't cheat / lean on the dark arts anywhere near as much - funny what happens when you lose a few argies. More than one way to play / enjoy football ofc. Man City of recent years have also been a very good side to watch. Also, sf4cprem is going to ignore my views on football style appreciation... This cuts me deep brother 😅😂 Anyway, if you can't see why opposition fans hate playing us because we basically don't give them the ball and then spend most of the 90mins knocking it around between the CMs and the defence, I can't really help you. It's boring footy to be on the recieving end of imo... maybe I'm in the minority and fans love watching the opposition walking the ball around in front of 11 defensively set up players 😂
