  1. The reason HS2 stops at Old Oak is that to go further it needs a tunnel, and most of the London constituencies are already underrun with tunnels, be it the Underground or Crossrail, so on that basis it should make no difference. The main issue with HS2 has always been that there was never a need for a high speed link, what was needed was greater capacity on the West Coast Mainline, coupled with vastly improved east-west trans Pennine lines. As a national vanity project it was trying to deliver the wrong thing.
  2. Standard nimbyism that all MPs and local politicians show.
  3. You are entitled to your opinion, I'll stick with being right.
  4. If you cut out the rest of this post and just leave the highlighted bits, it then makes perfect sense.

  6. He had enough energy to father a large number of children by more than 1 woman.
  7. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67021225 "The HS2 rail line will not be extended to London Euston unless enough private investment is secured for the project. If cash is not put forward by private funds, the high-speed line will only run from Birmingham to Old Oak Common in the capital's western suburbs."
  8. Now it seems that HS2 will stop at Old Oak, near North Acton, and 6 miles from it's originally planned terminus at Euston. This probably means that any time saved on a journey from Birmingham will be lost in transferring to the Underground to complete it.
  9. Score
  10. Nobody "plays the man" like Boris; https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YO9F6BDffx4
  11. Not really. I can agree with Rishi Sunak on which footy team to support whilst loathing everything about his politics.
  12. And what about the replacement for phase 2 of HS2, "Network North" ? It includes a line between Plymouth and Tavistock, admittedly north of the Scilly Isles....... https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/651d64646a6955000d78b2e0/network-north-transforming-british-transport.pdf
  13. I know politicians are famous for rehashing old promises and dressing them up as new ideas, but surely Rishi could have done better than this..... https://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/government-pledges-extend-metrolink-line-27842632 "The Government has pledged to extend the Metrolink line to Manchester Airport - where it has already existed for almost nine years".
  14. By that logic, every match in which MOTD shows a refereeing error should be replayed. Then what happens if in the replay there is another mistake ? Bloody bin dipping victim culture.
  15. Kevin McCarthy ousted as Speaker as all the Democrats in the House vote with 8 Republicans. McCarthy becomes a victim of the concessions he was forced to make when going though 15 votes to get the position. One Democrat, referencing the splits in the Republicans, says "Let the civil war begin".
  16. Watching the Channel 4 docu-drama about Partygate, based on the Sue Grey report. Fucking Hoorays more concerned with "Wine Time Friday" and karaoke than following their own rules.
  17. Can't see that ref being given another Stoke home match for a while.
  18. Is he wearing Che's boots ?
  19. Supermix or Tangfastic ?
  20. Got BBC Radio Stoke commentry on the stream I'm watching, they have just accused him of being biased.
  21. Depends on how much help they are expecting from the ref.
  22. The conference is being held in what used to be the railway terminus for the London to Manchester line - we still await the official announcement of the cancellation of the Manchester link of HS2, the full length of which will start from London, ( or somewhere close ). Could somebody put a call in to Alannis Morissette.
  23. I was once cycing up Blackpool Prom and there was a car in front of me the driver of which was looking for something, a side road or a hotel probably, and was dawdling along, so I shouted at him to "get out of the bloody way" as he was slowing me down.
  24. Is it a re-interpretation of "Dig For Victory" ?
  25. At 30 mph a car passing me on my bike will generally have a speed differential of over 10 mph and will take a couple of seconds to get past me. At 20 that differential will be, at best, 4 mph, and it will take at least 3 times as long to go past. This increases the danger to me, and means the car will need to find a much longer stretch of road without oncoming traffic to achieve it's manoeuvre with a safe passing distance. Car drivers are going to get more frustrated behind cyclists and more likely to take stupid chances to go past.
