  5. All Muslims belive in Sharia law, it is part of the religious texts. Where things differ is in how Sharia is interpreted and implemented; many Muslim majority countries only apply the Sharia rules to family and domestic matters, leaving out all the stoning, amputation, and beheading bits. It can even be applied to Muslim marriage and divorce settlements in the UK, ( https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/08/01/british-court-recognises-sharia-law-landmark-divorce-case/ ).
  6. I find it amusing when you get the situation that neither the BBC or ITV acknowledge the other's coverage. Yesterday ITV covered the teatime kick off, and as they got to the end of the program the presenter said that Belgium would soon be kicking off against Canada and viewers could catch up with that match just after midnight. ( As opposed to simply turning over to BBC1 ). With regard to the penalty this evening, Ronaldo did what Ronaldo has done all his career - fell over and conned the ref. Admittedly he is very good at it, but VAR should have overturned it.
  7. There are gay Muslims already.
  8. Currently watching Andor, the prequel series to Rogue One. A Star Wars story in which, having got to episode 6, there has been no mention of The Force or Jedi. Edit: end of episode 7 has the scenes filmed on Cleveleys sea front - I used to cycle to and from work along a Star Wars set.
  9. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-63741465 "Business groups and unions are urging the government not to go ahead with plans to ditch a wide range of EU laws, warning the move could cause "confusion and disruption" in the UK. In a joint letter, groups including the Institute of Directors and the Trades Union Congress called on ministers to withdraw its Retained EU Law bill."

  12. With all the pundits saying the players should go ahead and wear the protest armbands and damn the consequences, why don't they wear them in the studio ?

  18. Ex MP Owen Paterson, who campaigned for the UK to break from the European Court of Human Rights, is taking the UK Government to the ECHR over the investigation that found him guilty of breaking lobbying rules.
  19. I suppose you might ask the people of Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Serbia, etc? Not that we are likely to bomb Qatar into agreeing with us.
  20. It would help if the NHS was actually a single entity. Instead you have a myriad of Agencies, Trusts, Partnerships, etc, each of which will have it's own administration staff, contractual obligations - especially within the Internal Market, and strategic aims. Add to this the constant changes of course and funding formulae whenever a new Secretary of State is appointed, and you have the recipe for the mess we are now experiencing. I used to work closely with the local Hospital Trust's IT unit - our networks were interconnected and each of us had co-located staff in the others' premises. They told me that they had 37 different points in their various IT systems where patient name, address, etc, had to be entered, and for many of those it was impossible to integrate the systems to automatically exchange the information. Hopefully this has improved in the last few years, but it is indicative of the internal problems that NHS staff have to deal with. Also, the NHS has a low number of medical staff when compared to the health care systems in many other 'developed' countries.
  21. Your comment was about the consequence of playing in a Muslim country, not specifically about Qatar. Your generalisations show a lack of understanding about other faiths and countries.
  22. Homosexuality was legalised in Turkiye in 1923, and in Jordan in 1951. It may not be socially acceptable, but in this regard they were ahead of the UK. I doubt very much that in any of the countries listed there would be a ban on rainbows in similar fashion to Qatar.
  23. Would there have been the same issues in Turkiye, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, or Algeria ?
