  1. More pony on here than the New Forest commons.
  2. The primary aim of the opposition was to block 'no deal' on Oct 31st, which they think they have done. In doing so they are backing Boris into a "do or die" corner, and think this gives them the best weapon against him in any subsequent GE. Calling a GE before Oct 31st allows Boris to fight it on his terms, with the risk that he would win and "no deal" would still happen on Halloween.
  3. I think that is indeed their new 'cunning plan', though whether it's as cunning as my socks I have no idea.
  4. This is the longest prorogation of Parliament without a General Election since 1930, by more than a week. It is clearly a ploy to impede Parliamentary opposition.
  5. So according to Sajid Javid the Government will 'obey all laws', but will not ask for a Brexit extension, even if the Benn bill, which could compel them to do so, is passed into Law.
  6. In no way, I'd prefer to wake up from this nightmare and find us still safely within the European family. However, I am a pragmatist and if the vote was to leave, we shold have simply left, no matter how big a mistake I feel the whole thing is. The Irish border would have very quickly seen border posts set up on the major routes, and the 'bad old' ways of smuggling across the majority of it would have returned. How well does tthe border between Norway and Sweden work ?
  7. At present I think that the UK Government is positioning itself to keep an open border, knowing that this is unacceptable to the EU, and in the expectation that those nasty Europeans would then be forced to implement border checks, and therefore be responsible for any problems arising.
  8. If Parliament agrees to an election based on a certain date, it is feasible that the PM then advises the Queen to proclaim the election for a different date, which is why the opposition are avoiding it at the moment. In theory Boris could set the date to after Oct 31st, and with parliament dissolved we would leave on "no deal" by default. https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainers/prime-ministers-powers-over-election-date
  9. Or like Winston Churchill in 1904.
  10. Gregory
  11. Hypo, if you were being lined up against Corbyn, I am sure you would poll quite highly.
  12. Well, he has got a rescue dog.
  13. For his birthday, my wife arranged for our youngest to have a "lesson" on a fully operational 737-800 simulator this morning. Sitting as 'passengers' we could watch everything and all the instruments as the instructor assisted him through taking off from East Midlands, a touch and go landing at Liverpool, ( that is down and straight up again without stopping, not a dodgy one ), then landing at Blackpool. Gives you a bit of an insight into how things operate in commercial cockpits, especially where the automated functions kick in, ( ie watching the trim wheels spinning, mechanisms that are indirectly linked to the issues with the Max8 ).
  14. Gentlemen, please, from the horse's mouth;
  15. Oi ! Spuds, if you don't mind.
  16. Possibly, but both my brother and I went to Uni, ( me to Wales, him to Cambridge ), so our parents seemed happy. It was bit strange being referred to as 'senior' and my brother 'junior', and having teachers who had been at the school with our father, and indeed one who had taught, ( and remembered ), him.
  17. Same one I did, but I paid attention.
  18. Careful, John Bercow is Jewish, you aren't suggesting anything unsavoury are you ?
  19. Being impartial and holding an opinion can be mutually exclusive. ( Unless you are a Premier League referee ).
  20. But, he is a Conservative.
  21. Given how clever Cummings and co think they are, could they not have foreseen this?
  22. I was asking how BoJo would excuse it, given he promised it "do or die".
