With regard to a second vote, why not hold it ? We at least now know far more about the pros and cons, and where both sides in the referendum produced distortions and outright fabrications. People are entitled to have changed their opinions subsequent to the original vote, and if those that voted leave last time are confident of their position, then they will win again. Simply quoting the 'democratic will of the people' plays down the most significant point: when ,( if ), we "leave" the EU this is an irreversible step, unlike those other clear democratic statements of the electorate's will, General Elections, when we get a chance to review, revise, and potentially reverse a result every 5 years, or less.

Wes, sorry, but what Shurlock wrote is exactly what Liam Fox said. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/brexit-deal-liam-fox-theresa-may-draft-agreement-eu-withdrawal-cabinet-a8637086.html

Would that be the isolationist, self-interested USA that took 3 years in WW1 and over 2 years in WW2 before deciding to get involved ? ( And remember, the 2nd time, they only woke up after the Japanese had spanked their arses, and if Hitler hadn't been stupid enough to actually declare war on the US they may have restricted themselves to convoy escorts in the Atlantic whilst concentrating on the Pacific theatre. ).

I think it is possible to leave, but you have to be willing to take a lot of pain and unpalatable consequences. It becomes impossible once you have a geographical/political situation such as Northern Ireland.

It seems that the Leavers are all leaving.

3 resignations already, less than a day after the agreement (?) was announced, and Penny Mordaunt is apparently 'reviewing her position'. This is going well.

It's the one potential outcome that nobody will admit to.

Quite probably, I was merely indicating how the attribution of being an agent for peace is applied to the EU. Indeed, the EU was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 2012. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Nobel_Peace_Prize

Since the EU was formed in 1957 there have been many armed conflicts on the continent of Europe, including the civil wars in the former Yugoslavia. The claim for 'sustained peace', when attributed to the EU, is applied to to conflicts between EU member states - historically these have predominantly involved the UK, France, and Germany.

In trying to satisfy everybody, she will end up satisfying nobody.

May won't resign, but the 1922 Committee might stir things up a bit.

Regarding being 'ruled' by Germans, we have been since George 1st.

Maybe you should have paid more attention to the teachers. Plenty of OEs on here, but there always has to be an exception to any rule, and in this instance it seems to be you.

And when GM calls remainers 'traitors' is he a 'bit moronic' too ?

If a container is loaded onto a truck in Munich, Prague, or Warsaw, and is then driven to Calais and onto a ferry, all Customs requirements are automatically satisfied because of the CU. The failure of the French to properly police the immigrants on their channel coast trying to sneak into the UK is not related to Customs, and won't go away post Brexit.

We will taken over by Muslim extremists ?

But currently, for trade within the EU, there won't be issues as we are all playing with the same rule book. Unless we stay in the Customs Union post Brexit then all such trade needs to be validated before it enters/leaves the UK.

So much for the idea that arming people inside venues will make things safer ; An armed security guard at a bar in suburban Chicago was killed by police as he detained a suspected gunman, according to officials and witnesses. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-46187460 "Everybody was screaming out 'security, he was a security guard', and they still did their job and saw a black man with a gun and basically killed him".

Do you actually believe the things that you post ?

It's up on the BBC now. What chance he is charged with 'disrepute' ?
