Is that the Canada deal that took about 7 years to negotiate, and is still far from fully implemented ? -
Lindsay Hoyle as new speaker ? A Labour MP from Lancashire, couldn't do better.

Most of your posts deserve "childish" responses, like for like. -
Are we still the only English club to sign a current European Player of the Year ?

So the ERG, etc, who voted down the WA are really Remainers ? And surely, if the peop!e voting against the WA were truly Remainers, then they were bound to vote down the WA as it confirmed the path to leaving the EU. -

He has already apologised for not correcting 'auto-correct's error. My tablet computer keeps auto-correcting 'majority' to 'minority', which in the context of this thread is mildly amusing. -

He is stuck because he actually views Boris as a " pinko". -

The longer he is left to flounder, the better their chances when the GE comes round. Democracy is moot, FPTP is not democratic. As a raw percentage of total votes cast, what percentage do you think should guarantee a majority in Parliament ? -

2 years ago, 42% of votes were cast for Teresa May and the Conservatives. -

The primary aim of the opposition was to block 'no deal' on Oct 31st, which they think they have done. In doing so they are backing Boris into a "do or die" corner, and think this gives them the best weapon against him in any subsequent GE. Calling a GE before Oct 31st allows Boris to fight it on his terms, with the risk that he would win and "no deal" would still happen on Halloween. -

I think that is indeed their new 'cunning plan', though whether it's as cunning as my socks I have no idea.

This is the longest prorogation of Parliament without a General Election since 1930, by more than a week. It is clearly a ploy to impede Parliamentary opposition. -
So according to Sajid Javid the Government will 'obey all laws', but will not ask for a Brexit extension, even if the Benn bill, which could compel them to do so, is passed into Law.

In no way, I'd prefer to wake up from this nightmare and find us still safely within the European family. However, I am a pragmatist and if the vote was to leave, we shold have simply left, no matter how big a mistake I feel the whole thing is. The Irish border would have very quickly seen border posts set up on the major routes, and the 'bad old' ways of smuggling across the majority of it would have returned. How well does tthe border between Norway and Sweden work ?
-
At present I think that the UK Government is positioning itself to keep an open border, knowing that this is unacceptable to the EU, and in the expectation that those nasty Europeans would then be forced to implement border checks, and therefore be responsible for any problems arising.

If Parliament agrees to an election based on a certain date, it is feasible that the PM then advises the Queen to proclaim the election for a different date, which is why the opposition are avoiding it at the moment. In theory Boris could set the date to after Oct 31st, and with parliament dissolved we would leave on "no deal" by default. https://www.instituteforgovernment.org.uk/explainers/prime-ministers-powers-over-election-date -
