  1. So what do you do when England play an international sports event ?
  2. Living in the past doesn't solve anything, learning from past mistakes might. I wasn't born when slavery was a massive money spinner for British trade, so why should I feel guilty about it ? Should I ask for the Italians to apologise for the atrocities carried out by the Romans after the invasion in 57 AD ?
  3. Funny that, you spend less and auction off the 4G spectrum and voila - you need to borrow slightly less than previously forecast.
  4. I refuse to hold a guilt complex over something that happened centuries before I was born.
  5. Maybe austerity isn't the solution, looks like somebody may have make a mistake in their spreadsheet : http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-22197958 "Doubts have been cast on research that has been crucial in supporting governments' austerity programmes........ Carmen Reinhart and Kenneth Rogoff's paper Growth in a time of debt looked at 20 advanced economies since 1945 and found that GDP growth had been between 3% and 4% when debt had been below 90% of GDP, but that the average had collapsed to -0.1% when debt had risen above 90%. The new research says that growth only falls to an average of 2.2% when debt passes 90%." http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-22213219 "...two Harvard economists admitted a faulty spreadsheet calculation caused errors in a study used by numerous politicians to support their austerity policies,"

  10. Yes you are allowed, but you can't say anything nasty about him.
  11. Grimethorpe colliery was apparently viable in the long term, and profitable. ( EDIT : as posted in #235 : "John T Boyd, a firm of American mining specialists hired by the corporation last year, named Parkside, Trentham, Betws, Grimethorpe and Houghton Main as collieries that were commercially viable" )
  12. Like any Pompey sister ?
  13. Does that mean I'm showing solidarity with myself ?
  14. Without continuing maintenance the shafts flood and become unstable, and it becomes too costly to attempt to clear them.
  15. Followed one of the comments and came across these forgotten snippets : http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18816436 July 12th 2012 "Portsmouth have been told by the Football League they will start the new season on -10 points if they are to be allowed into League One." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19286219 Augut 16th 2012 " Portsmouth have been given special dispensation by the Football League to start the season on zero points despite being in administration. Football League rules state that clubs who begin a season in administration start on -10 points. But Pompey will now be penalised as and when they exit administration."
  16. " The result also means it is now likely Pompey will begin life in League Two with a 10-point deduction next term as they prepare to exit administration. The final decision on that will come when the Football League meet later this month. However, it is thought the League will not give them a points deduction this term as it would not be deemed a sufficient punishment by other clubs, with the Blues already down."

  22. The main difference is that you will have 2 that need ferrying to footie practice / dance rehearsals / skating / etc.
  23. Just got back from lurcher racing in Doncaster - is the score a fair reflection of the game ?
  24. Well that's more than they've managed this season.
