No it isn't true, it's as much a sweeping generalisation as before. I'd counter with another quote that is well known:- Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. There are numerous examples of independent contributors who write articles in newspapers on many subjects and have both superior knowledge of those subjects than the papers' journalists and who also often write in a superior style to those journalists too. The fact that they are doing other things that utilise their skills other than being journalists doesn't mean that they couldn't do that work as well as, or better than some journalists. Winston Churchill used to dabble in bricklaying as a hobby he found soothing in times of stress and was quite capable at it, possibly more so than many a poor bricklayer. There are those builders and plumbers who appear on "Rogue Traders" where in many cases the quality of their work is conceivably often surpassed by proficient DIYers. When discussing The Echo, the number of mistakes and the poor quality of the grammar and spelling means that the number of people who received a fairly decent education and could do a better job than some of their journalists would be quite large, if those people chose to be journalists instead of taking other career paths.

No its not. It's possibly true as a sweeping generalisation, but as with all things, there are good and bad workers throughout industry and commerce and there are certainly plenty of people who are better qualified to write stories for a newspaper than some of the journalists and who are not journalists themselves. One only has to proof read the Echo to see the numerous mistakes made in both spelling and grammar to realise that.

I agree with the first part, but not entirely the second. Wotte is not the man to be manager, we need somebody who knows this division inside out and also knows the players to buy to be most effective. Whereas the team needs to include some bruisers and meatheads, it also must be balanced with some players with a bit of flair too.
-
Arguably, we were also stuffed the minute that we jettisoned Pearson and appointed JP and Wotte in his place. All is conjecture about what might have been, but what actually happened is a fact. The one bright side is that Lowe, Askham and others from the old board have lost all of their share value and therefore have no further influence or power over our future. It remains to be seen whether we will be taken over by people with serious money to invest in us, but if that comes to pass, then that is a further massive plus, as it will be the first time that we will have owners with serious money. The end that got us here, might yet well justify the means.

And if he wants any football related advice, he can always ask his new partner/colleague Richard Fry at BT, who was appointed as our bank contact when at Barclays, Reading, because he states that he is a specialist in footballing matters.
-
Agreed that Thomas is too expensive for us. We can't afford to pay anybody who is going to spend the entire season in the treatment room.
-
Motivated mostly by a desire to protect his shareholding. What a pity that he was the architect of both our administration and relegation, whereas it is entirely feasible that somebody else might have kept us afloat and in this division, ironically protecting Lowe's shareholding at the same time.
-
What has that to do with what I said?
-
Why is it contemplated that any Swiss person or group interested in us has to comprise multi-millionaires or billionaires? If you look at our recent history, we have not been associated with people of any great wealth during the club's history so far and since our administration we have attracted some tyre-kickers who seemingly represent others of no great wealth. Why shouldn't there be a Swiss, German, Italian or Arabic equivalent of Jackson, Batchelor, Fialka, etc? If the UK is capable of throwing up such jokers, I'm sure that we do not have a monopoly on them.

It costs nothing to register and post up to three times a day. If your friend wishes to see what is going on, why doesn't he spend a few minutes to register his own account? I realise that you cannot respond today as between the two of you, you have use up your post allocation until tomorrow.

Well, we could be playing in the Blue Square league yet next season. Didn't you stop to consider that? But still the distinction between the status of the club and the player continues to elude you somehow.
-
You're not the guy by any chance who sent him the anonymous letter at the last AGM telling him what a wonderful job he was doing and to carry on, ignoring those critical of him, as they were all morons?
-
Is that a football related avator, Docker? Who are we signing that is Swiss?
-
No. He is a Championship player, playing for a club technically in League 1, the club having not played any games in this division yet since over 30 years ago. Apart from a short loan at Bournemouth, he has not habitually played at this level, so cannot realistically be classified as a League 1 player any more than Owen can be classified as a Championship player by anybody with any sense.
-
a strange answer to a strange question. It is patently obvious that if Lallana is bought by a Premiership club, that he is probably too good for league 1; unless of course McCarthy is a blithering idiot. At the very least, having played most of his senior football at Championship level, he is at least a championship player.
-
Are you saying that McCarthy wishes to deliberately reduce the quality of his Premiership squad by including league 1 players who are not good enough to do a job in the top flight?
-
If you can't differentiate between the circumstances of club and players, then it you who deserve the . By your feeble reasoning, you might as well classify Owen as being a fizzy pop player and ask why ManUre would be interested in a player from the lower divisions. If a player has habitually played his games at a certain level, it is fair comment to consider him a player of that level, even if his club are relegated. So to classify Lallana as a 3rd division player, perhaps you will kindly inform us all of the number of games that he has played in that division.
-
But he isn't a league one player, is he? He hasn't ever played in league one for us. He is a fizzy pop league player.
-
When we were looking as if we were going under, other clubs were in a position to offer ridiculously low amounts in an attempt to pick up a fire sale bargain. Now that it looks as if we might be bought within a matter of days by people who do appear to have serious money behind them, we again have the whiphand. The law of supply and demand returns to the situation. If somebody is desperate to buy him, then they will be forced to pay a realistic price for him. If they don't, there will not be the imperative to sell him at any cost that existed until recently, as we have hopefully bought enough breathing space through the sale of Dyer and Surman.

Regarding the family matters, your response echoes the one I would have made. Now, regarding the club, which I also consider like you to be like a member of my family, that is where we differ. You see, like the analogy of the drug taking son, Lowe and his board were harming my beloved club and the only weapon that I had in my armoury to rid the club of him was the boycott. Had sufficient numbers publicised a boycott and acted on it in unison, Lowe and that board could have been dispatched at Christmas and replaced with others who might have had a reasonable chance of keeping us afloat and still in this division. Instead, many just drifted away, disillusioned, but silent as individuals instead of vocal as a group, so the extent of their protest was not so obvious. In any event, reduced numbers eventually meant that the financial viability of the club suffered to the extent of administration and succeeded in ridding us of all of the charlatans who had driven the club downwards. Provided that we are taken over by somebody with decent money to invest in us to make progress back up to where we were, IMO it will have been worth it. When we are back in the Premiership, you might gain some historical perspective and change your mind too. Sometimes the Machiavellian strategy justifies the means, as hopefully it will with us.
-
Yes. With luck somebody like him would bring the sort of solidity that Dodd did to the RB slot and James could be the player ahead of him able to push up when able and track back to support if needed.
-
Ah! So the club is like a member of your family, but you are prepared to say that you would rather have anybody take us over rather than Pinnacle. So much for the thick and thin, eh? Whilst you are fond of the family analogy, tell me what you would do if one of your children was stealing, taking drugs, or worse dealing them? Do you report it to the Police in an attempt to bring about a short sharp shock that might snap them out of it, or do you just let them carry on until they are either locked away (stealing or dealing drugs) or dead? (taking drugs)
-
So although you state your preference for anybody except Pinnacle, your opinion holds no substance as you would go to matches regardless of who is running the club. I on the other hand, along with many others, maintained a stance on a matter of principle to boycott the club towards the end of last season until Lowe had been removed, but have promised as a matter of honour to buy a ST now that he is no longer connected to us, regardless of who takes us over. Whatever transpires, I am prepared to give the new owners a chance to prove themselves, provided that Lowe, Wilde or Askham are nowhere to be seen. I tire of trotting out the analogy that any business which does not give value or service to its customers is unlikely to improve unless it pays heed to their wishes, gives value for the product and respects them. It is debateable as to who is the better fan; the one who makes an effort to get the club to sit up and listen by threatening to withdraw financial input when it is not being run properly, or the one who will continue to put his money in the pot regardless of how much it costs, how poor the team is, or how much he is disrespected by the club.
-
How will hitting a golf ball help you relive the frustrations of being a Saints fan?
-
Tut Tut, Nineteen. This statement rather smacks of the "anything but Lowe" stance taken when most of us were fooled by the prospect of Wilde ousting him and we all know what you would have thought of that. Do I take it that you would be happy with Jackson's lot?
