http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/15652146.LAWRIE__Davis_is_my_sort_of_player/ Lawrie rates him as a player and I respect his opinion still. He used to say that a team needed violinists and road sweepers. The likes of Tadic and Boufal are the violinists and Davis epitomises the industrious, never-tiring, always reliable road sweeper epithet. He exemplifies the never say die attitude, no matter what the odds are against the team. He is the ultimate professional, a shining example to the other players in the squad and somebody the younger players can look up to. It's a shame that some of our posters don't recognise those qualities, but then again, some of them are bang average when it comes to supporting our team.
  3. As you enjoyed the last video so much, yes, there is one on the "Jewish problem". You might also appreciate the one on "progressive liberals" Peace.
  4. I'm not a violent person. You rearrange your own face yourself; usually into a sneer. Here is my parting shot just for you. Enjoy.
  5. Shurlock is surely the most obnoxious, opinionated, sanctimonious and arrogant poster on here by some considerable distance. I have tired of being patronised and insulted by him, so I have given up wasting my time on this thread.
  6. We're way out of Lowe's league now, thank God.
  7. In the same way that it was inevitable that Brighton would score the equaliser because we sat back and invited them onto us, it looked inevitable that Burnley would score against us too. Just seconds before they scored, I had made the observation that our defence and midfield had allowed the Burnley players too much space and we had ceased closing them down and pushing them back. I can see the MOTD defensive pundit assessing it now. He will draw his big circles around their players near the box and highlight the lack of movement of our defence towards the spaces around them. We have become so predictable that it is easy now to recognise to within a few minutes when our team's lack of discipline will cost us a goal. Pellegrino doesn't seem to see it until it is too late, but even though surely the players must be admonished for their mistakes between matches in the analysis of their performances, they just seem to make them over and over again.
  8. Even a brain surgeon might well be better than Forster in goal.
  9. The Gabbiadini substitution was met with disbelief all around me. There were numerous loud boos at the final whistle.
  10. Time for us to get shot of Pellegrino. He is tactically inept and despite having now played 11 games in the PL, he still seems clueless as to what our best team is. Those 11 games must have been the easiest run of games we have had in the PL as an opening sequence and we ought to have been several points ahead of our current tally. Now we have a run of difficult fixtures ahead of us, without the confidence boost that a run of wins would have given us, and unless we hold our own, a series of reverses now could be very damaging psychologically. What the hell was he playing at when he took off one striker and replaced him with another at a time when we were dominating the match but lacking the players to put the ball in the net? What was he thinking leaving the addition of the extra striker to so late in the game? Why does he accommodate three flair players like Redmond, Tadic and Boufal when it becomes clear that they still do not produce the killer through ball to the lone striker, or the run into the box with the ball at their feet with any regularity. Poor old Gabbidini; I feel so sorry for him producing the movement and getting into good positions only to be ignored. We have the players available to play three at the back, Virgil, Yoshida and Hoedt being a very capable trio of CBs. We have two of the best full backs in Bertrand and Cedric. How long will it be before he realizes that for all of our possession, our pretty passing and movement, we lack bite up front? Our build up play is too slow and by the time we get the ball into the final third, the defence is in place to repel any attack. In this match, Pellegrino was out-thought by Dyche tactically. Having soaked up all of our pressure, he made the tactical substitution that won them the match. Unless Pellegrino turns things around by Christmas, he ought to be sacked. With the run of fixtures we now have coming up, the writing is already on the wall.
  11. You're as thick as mince
  12. Forster complete and utter sh*t
  13. We seem to have taken our foot off the pedal since going ahead. Sit deeper and invite them forward and we could be punished. Having Redmond, Tadic and Boufal all on at the same time makes us a bit lightweight in midfield. I don't see Redmond adding much, nor Tadic particularly. I'd take one of them off for a more solid midfielder, or maybe make if three at the back with Yoshida, allowing Bertrand and Cedric to add width and pace out wide.
  14. I agree that Redmond is not a patch on Mane and never will be. But Gabbiadini isn't far removed from Pelle and could prove that if he gets the service. It is arguable that Yoshida is currently as good as Fonte is now, certainly quicker and doesn't give away the free kicks and penalties that Fonte now does. I think that Lemina is showing signs that he could be better than Wanyama, although it is still early days to draw any realistic conclusions.
  15. Yes, that was diabolical, wasn't it? Broke up the play nicely for them when we were gathering momentum too. As for the Yedlin tackle, here it is, one of the numerous videos out there featuring it, together with much comment from the likes of Pardew and Redknapp and other commentators. http://wittyfutty.com/2017/10/video-deandre-yedlin-terrible-tackle-vs-nathan-redmond/
  16. Yedlin was already on a yellow before that tackle, so at the very least he should have received the red card for a second yellow, even if you are benevolent enough towards your player to excuse the tackle as being unworthy of a red by itself. Whether it was malicious in that it was deliberately intended to do Redmond physical harm or not, only Yedlin knows for sure. However, I agree with the pundits that had Redmond not lifted his feet off the ground on impact, then he could have suffered quite a serious injury. To counter your justifiable comment that had you gone down to 10 men, you would have shut up shop and not conceded the penalty, I will be mischievous and wonder whether we would have been more of a threat had Redmond indeed been injured and therefore had to be substituted. I applaud Newcastle though for continuing to play attacking football when ahead, instead of parking the bus.
  17. We're slowly getting there. At least the penny appears to be dropping, that we need to have two strikers up front. Now all that needs to happen, is for Pellegrino to try the 3-5-2 formation, utilising Bertrand and Cedric as wing backs. When we're on the back foot, we'd have a back line of five and when attacking, a midfield of five to keep possession, increase the width and put in the crosses to the two strikers. Now that we have VVD back, we have the option of him in the centre of the back three, with either of Yoshida, Stephens and Hoedt either side. With Lemina and Romeu in front of him, this would provide extra protection for Fraser, something that he badly needs in his current (lack of) form. As usual, there were some ifs and buts which could have brought about a different conclusion to the match. Had we not been so amateurish in our lack of concentration in the short time after we had equalised, we might have gone on to win. Also, had the referee had any balls, then Newcastle would have been down to 10 men had Yedlin been red-carded after his horrific foul on Redmond having already been booked, but according to the MOTD pundits, Friend was unsighted. Yet another incident that justifies the clamour for video evidence. On the other side of the coin, Lejeune's tackle on Long which gave us the penalty was extremely stupid, but he nearly atoned by scoring, had not Davis been on the line to clear his header. And then they also hit the bar with Forster well beaten. Personally, I would be happy if the club fined the players for each ball that goes backwards or sideways when there are options available to play the ball forward. I am dying of boredom at home matches having to watch the ball played out short from Forster and then watching it progress sideways and backwards, then forward to the middle of the pitch before making its ways backwards once more. It is clear to everybody that by the time the ball is played forward decisively, the defence is lined up to repel any attack. We can't rely on other teams having a keeper as inept as Forster to save goals from daisy-cutters from well outside the area, or to rely on us making those sorts of shots. Since when do we shoot from outside of the box? Some of our players are even afraid to shoot from within the area, preferring to try and walk the ball into the net, notably Tadic and Redmond. Speaking of Redmond, there was an occasion in the second half when he received the ball early near the corner flag and waiting foot on ball for several seconds pondering what to do with it. Looking along the line, we had three players in a line across in front of the goal, so the obvious choice was to put the ball in front of them to attack it. There is always the chance of an own goal too. So he sent it to one of our players outside of the box in front of the goal, with defenders in front of them facing forward seeking to clear the danger up-field. Things improved with the introduction of Davis and Boufal. Boufal in particular had a immediate impact and one wonders whether he should have started instead of Redmond. He certainly showed a lot of determination tracking back and seems to have a quicker brain than Redmond. I'm delighted that Gabbiadini was rewarded with a brace of goals and now with a real confidence boost he can maybe start bagging some more with frequency. I don't think that we're far away from a decent team, but Pellegrino has had enough time to assess what our best team is and also which tactics and formation ought to best suit it. That's 3-5-2.
  18. Just like you do on the EU thread?
  19. Finally! I presume that I will be getting the lost month added to the end.
  20. But then if they took Misguided's £10 and refunded my £5, then they wouldn't be any further ahead than they would be having his £5 and mine....
  21. Then if the site do not wish to grant me the full membership that I have paid for, they should be able to refund my £5 then, shouldn't they?
  22. Well, it's been well over a month now since I paid my £5 and still no sign of full membership. A further email to the site admin elicits no response either. What is going on?
  23. Looks like we will have to rely on our defenders and midfielders to score goals for us this season, as we aren't going to get many from our strikers. It is patently obvious that playing Long as the sole striker is not the answer. I can understand that MP took off Davis, as although I love his full blooded commitment, Long has that too. Neither of them are goal scorers, so why not have Long on instead of Davis purely because of his pace and his nuisance value? That allows an extra striker up front. I would go further and take off Redmond for Gabbiadini, so that would allow Austin to play up front. Now that Van Dijk is back, I don't see why we shouldn't play 3-5-2, using Bertrand and Cedric as wing backs. Something has to change, and quickly. As the match commentators said, we are good at the pretty tippy, tappy passing, but lack the ability to get the ball to the striker/s in the final third. We are too slow in our build-up, don't break in sufficient numbers to stretch a defence, and don't have the confidence to shoot often enough. There have been a succession of what might have been deemed to be "easier" matches that we have played, and we needed to be piling up the points. We gave ManUre a torrid game in the second half last week and ought to have had a real boost against a Stoke side which had suffered several injuries to deplete their squad. We needed the win to lift our confidence for when we play the top teams soon, but we could well go into those games in a state of trepidation and a tonking would have us dropping our heads. Bloody typical that the winning goal just had to scored by Crouch. A pity that we don't have a striker like him, even at his age. MP needs to make serious adjustments to start turning things around, or the clamour for him to go will get louder. Personally I don't have much faith in the system of having a lone striker up front, particularly Long. I don't rate Redmond, and I have always had my doubts about playing Boufal and Tadic together. Boufal looked lively when he came on, but Tadic hadn't been as good as he was last week, so why not a straight switch? Had we played for much more of the game in the manner that we did for the last 10 minutes, we might have had a goal or two more scored by our defenders or midfielders.
  24. V-VD has been good apart from giving away the penalty, which was pretty soft, but naturally any striker is going to go down at the merest touch, so don't touch them. We have been dominant for most of the half, but lack the cutting edge up front. Please can we take off Redmond and bring on Gabbiadini to replace him?
  25. Obviously not. I'm still not a full member. Nobody appears to respond to emails sent to the subscription email address.
