Not going to be smug but we have invested heavily at 3/1 for relegation and 12 to 1 to finish bottom. Sadly They are now odds on for relegation and 7/2 to finish bottom. Somebody on this site tipped me off about these prices

In fairness PFC we got was it 7,000 againts Hearts, the second such home friendly in a week on the day that Hampshire played in a final at Lords. I think under the circumstances even you must concede that is impressive.
-
A lot of people whinged on this forum, the Saints Trust actively looked to rally support to find alternatives. 'All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing'. They tried to do something! Anyway tomorrow is about Hampshire and a good trip to London.

Mathew Harding (Chelsea) offered what would have smashed the the transfer fee; more than Andy Cole. Base your valuation on that. Oh and by the way he scored more goals and set up more chances than Cantona in a relegation threatened team.
-
When we were in crisis the Saints Trust played a valuable part in trying to cordinate supporters to do something about it. I think that should be commended. A lot of people just walked away.

Excellent news. I am sure he reads this forum

John Mortimore is a gentleman and a footballing legend. Go to Benfica and ask anyone. In this new era I hope we can acknowledge his service to the club.
-
Quite right. You should always have to pay for your tickets.
-
what was the crowd?
-
Tony Lynam I think you should have a lot more to add than just whether Matt is 'peed off or not. Thank God it turned out OK in the end.

Corporate HQ; It looks like this is your Paul Allen moment - I believed that Paul Allen liked Saints because he could park his boat near the ground. I look back and cringe now. If your fella was serious than why would there be an exodus of players; surely you would keep the team together?
-
I am not fond of Portsmouth but I would not wish them to go out of business. All I want is for them to be a poorer team than us.

Woggy is an institution at Saints. The club would be sending out all the right messages by bringing him back.
-
I think the club was good value. We also have potentially a large fanbase - and the fans are a good advert for the club. I think we will sell 15,000 season tickets next season and if we get some momentum going we will regular get crowds of 25,000 plus. He obviously believes that as well. I think also ML has quite alot of business links with the area.

During the euphoria of the new takeover, I think we should remember the one person who kept the club going and always acted in the interests of the club. When the Ted Bates statue turned into a debacle, it was Leon Crouch that reached into his pocket and sorted it out. During the dark days of administration it was Leon that recognized just how seriously our plight was and again dipped into his pocket and rallied the troops. Leon may have a reputation as a loose cannon in his dealings with the media but that is because he always cared. His company's seemed to be one of our loyal sponsors when we were spiralling downwards. As we enter a new and exciting phase in the history of Saints, we should still acknowledge the role of Leon Crouch in keeping our club afloat.

When we had Souness as manager we were linked to a player called Turtlewax or simialr - he scored against England in Euro 96

I just cannot understand if Pinnacle were frauds why did they pay £500,000 to play their games?
-
Just read his comments in the Mail. Unbelievable if these comments are being contadicted, he should have to explain them if the rumours are true
-
I agree Um Pahars, it seems strange that having put half a million into the pot Pinnacle would give up just because there is an outside chance we could over turn the ten point deduction. They may have very good legal advice and believe we can. It is all speculation as I say but the FL should be working with us not against us. I just want to be able to take my children to see Saints play when they are old enough.
-
At this stage we can really only speculate as to the exact nature of the stumbling block but if it is as it seems and the FA are potentially holding up the deal then one would seriously have to question their conduct. They should have a duty to be acting on behalf of Southampton supporters (and there are many of us) to do do everything possible to preserve our club. They have an opportunity to faciliate a deal that will see us return to full financial health and if they choose to scupper this then they are being negligent. Morally most of us know that we probably should be docked 10 points (again its us the fans who get punished but rules are rules) but surely the FL should have enough confidence in there own rules to not sabotage the rescue of a great football club. That would be irresponsible. As I say though we can only speculate at the moment as to why the deal has been held up but I really hope the FL are on the fans side.

I will concede GM, that from supporting Saints I continually fall into the trap of believing what I really want to believe. I still chuckle to myself when I think back to how I honestly believed that part of the attraction of Southampton to Paul Allen was that he could park his boat outside the ground. It all seemed so logical at the time. The only reason I am optimistic now is that these fellas have put down half a million.

In Matty's testimonial programme - which I no longer have he mentions that he only has a few mates in football who he speaks to on a regular basis - one was Tim Flowers I cannot remember the others but I am not sure Dowie was included
-
I think he would be an excellent choice. He is very innovative with lots of ideas (was one of the first to have those American football style Microphones) and is intelligent - didn't he have a degree in engineering.
-
When you think back to the day that we signed Kevin Keegan, nobody had a clue until he was paraded at a press conference - there were not even any rumours. There is simply no way that this could be achieved today.

Saints Greatest XI - Your Views and Opinions
Sergei Gotsmanov replied to St Landrew's topic in The Saints
Just a few thoughts.... I seem to remember Malcolm Waldren winning the player of the season in the early eighties - does he warrant a mention? Also Beasant had one season with us when he won the same award and I thought he was absolutely oustanding. I do not have the player of the season list but we always seemed to get it about right. Neil Ruddock scored goals and had a good couple of seasons. Hassan Kachoul was oustanding in the great escape year. Carlton Palmer too was monumental about this time. From a tactician's perspective it might be useful to have Crouch on the bench Two of the best players I have seen in a Saints shirt but would not neccessarily want in my team were Eyal Berkovic and Henri Camara. Are we going on quality?
