In fairness, if you were going to do that, surely bring in a no.1 on loan and have Baz or Macca as 3rd choice? You've upgraded all three FT keepers that way.

Still have time for Still, personally. His record in France was good (yeah yeah, different league, but it's not a different sport) and he's young. He's shown his willingness to be adaptable and wants to win at all costs. Seems a good guy, without ego. My only concern is that he doesn't have the full respect of the players, but that might just be me getting the wrong end of the stick. The last point leads me onto what I think is the actual problem: The players he has at his disposal. Too many of them still aren't good enough. That's on the board.

100%. And to be fair, not everybody is charismatic infront of a camera. Puel and Pellegrino were hopelessly dull on screen, but behind the scenes they may not have been. Will's shown enough in various BTS clips and podcasts etc to show me communication with the players looks OK.

We finished 8th. Points-wise we were closer to 17th than 7th (seriously, go look it up). Had the rest of the league not been abysmal that year, we'd have be right down the rough end. Only finished with 42pts if I remember right? 8th place and the cup final papered over the cracks, he didn't suit the English game. Pretty good in France, though.

Hull did try to play last time we came up against them, in fairness. Hopefully they do the same again (no idea if they have the same manager nowadays)

100% agree. We are SO ponderous. We've got the most one-footed player you've ever seen at LB, so when 50% of the moves seem to start there, it's no wonder things get 'recycled' back to the keeper. Unless there's an easy pass on for Manning, he always turns and goes back to a CB or to the keeper. Eventually it ends up with the RB before being worked back into the middle, only yesterday the only thing there was in the middle was blue shirts. So, it goes back to a CB and they pelt it, meaning creative players like Azaz watch it fly over their heads. Manning's less ponderous when it's in the opponent's half, possibly because there's less risk involved? Who knows! We've made some great signings this summer, but so far the ghost of Russball is still ingrained in too many players.

I was thinking about this. Will's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't, same for Baz. Don't play - WS isn't showing faith in GB to perform under intense pressure. Play (and it goes wrong) - GB goes to bits and everyone says he should have played Macca. I guess AM did play in the away game at Fratton Park, so he has some experience at least of the kind of game it is.
