what's the worst bench we've put out in a professional game? We could be on for a record this Saturday as I think Osvaldo, Lovren, Boruc, Wanyama, Ramirez, Shaw and Fonte won't play any part.
-
Watching Sunderland win tonight makes me yearn for a cup run. We're 3 games from Wembley for goodness sake. There are 5 teams left that 4 times out of 5 would beat us-the rest I'd feel confident beating home or away. I hope Poch is good to his word and puts out a good team. Don't underestimate Yeovil either-they have a history of cup upsets and Johnson is one wily son of a gun.
-
Not sure about Adam or Cork. Swap for Osvaldo and Morgan. I'd back Lovren and Boruc to score as well-the latter with a paneka!
-
Ah yes, Hooiveld on the bench! (perhaps a nice mod could edit?)

I'm bang up for this, and with 3000+ glovers coming down it should be a good atmosphere. Lose and this season may look to be sliding into frustrating mediocrity. Even with Arsenal a few days later I see little point in making widespread changes, although it's hard to see Lovren or Gaston featuring, or Wanyama being fit enough to start. My team: Boruc Clyne-Fonte-Yoshida-Shaw Schneiderlin-Cork JWP-Davis-Lallana Osvaldo Subs: Davis, Chambers, Yoshida, Rodriguez, Reed, Wanyama, Lambert A 3-1 victory, just like the old days

Post Match Reaction: Sunderland 2-2 SAINTS
lickierambert replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
I feel like we've got back the Saints I recognise and love this week-infighting and surrendering leads. Love it! Could be worse, could be losing at home to Mansfield! Bring on Yeovil -
I think we can all agree that the biggest news this week is Gaston's decision to ditch the cornrows. Oh, the game. Err.. 1-1

Mauricio Pochettino staying as Southampton manager - Official
lickierambert replied to Ashley Grute's topic in The Saints
Good news, for now My gut feeling is that unless Cortese comes back as Chairman with a different consortium, Pochettino won't be manager at the start of next season, but will guide us until the end of this one regardless. -
Whatever happens, Cortese has got to come out and say something in the next couple of weeks. There's only one person that could have leaked this, and that's the man himself. He's done it for a reason, quite what will become apparent soon.

£30 million for for Luke Shaw should we take it?
lickierambert replied to modern matron's topic in The Saints
Because sometimes in life you are given excellent offers for assets that can override emotion. For example in 2006 a family approached the estate agent I bought our house through and offered us a very good price for the house, which I reluctantly accepted, because I deemed the offer to be very generous. A lot of the value of that house was wiped out in two years, and we sold at the right time. In my opinion Shaw isn't worth £30 million. I love him and want him to stay at Saints but that isn't always possible, and if I were in Cortese's position I would sell. I suspect The money you refer to isn't coming from the Liebherr family, but from the substantial TV revenue we get from being in this league. As I have my concerns over who actually owns our club and their level of long term financial commitment I would gamble, thinking we could improve our infrastructure and squad with that money. -
£30 million for for Luke Shaw should we take it?
lickierambert replied to modern matron's topic in The Saints
I'd Accept it. Put it this way, if we'd bought Shaw last summer for £30 million, could you imagine the 'what a waste of money' outcry there'd be on here? Football has a food chain, and Man City and Chelsea are the top dogs at the minute in this country with their financial clout. I don't like it, but even Arsenal have had to regularly sell their best players over the last 7/8 years. Shaw's value will not rise significantly above inflation over the next couple of years IMO. That £30 million could pay for the new academy facilities, plus a couple of decent players -
He's not played or managed outside of Spain, save for a 1 year spell in Brazil. Good luck with that WBA! (Yes I know Poch hadn't manged here before but he'd played in quite a few countries and for his national side)
-
He looked overweight as a few have pointed out, but very dangerous in the box. His hold up play was virtually non-existent as well-difficult to see him playing as a '1' in a 4-2-3-1.

The draw for the 4th round takes place after the Nottingham Forest vs West Ham game on ITV at approximately 2pm Who do we want?-Port Vale/Plymouth at home would do nicely. Interesting fact-there are more teams from League 1 and below than the Premier League left in the FA Cup this year.
-
1st half a training exercise 2nd half a defensive shambles. We won! 4 good goals in the game, thankfully we scored 3 of them. Burnley win the award for the 'chunkiest' team we've played this year-a lot of junk in the trunk The woman screaming 'get it forward!' in a shrill tone every minute behind me-shut the f**k up you ignorant cow-have you not watched any professional football, ever?
-
For a club that's won exactly one major trophy in 129 years, I find it extraordinary the dismissive nature of the attitude from some on here and at the club towards these competitions. With only two Premier league sides playing teams outside the top two divisions in the 3rd round, this has to be a great chance to get number 2. The chances of finishing in the top 6 or bottom 3 are remote, so I'm looking forward to the game and hopefully progressing to the 4th round.

Post Match Reaction: SAINTS 0-3 Chelsea
lickierambert replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Chelsea were outstanding, the best we've played this year home or away. That's the difference of about £200 million and having 25 players good enough for the top 8 of the premier league, opposed to our 15/16. -
Reed for Osvaldo and this would be my team. Lose this and is that effectively season over?

This side (since 2009) have always had a habit of bouncing back strong after a poor performance/run of results. We could really do with a win here, otherwise it could be 10 or 11 without a win. Gazza, Chambers, Fonte, Lovren, Shaw, Schneiderlin, Cork, JWP, Lallana, Rodriguez, Osvaldo. 2-1 Saints

More indiscipline from a Poyet side-Wes Brown red card

Lies, damned lies and statistics. The form guide that has us as the 9th best team in the country after 16 games is the most encouraging one

Vincent Tan tells Malky Mackay to resign - or he'll be sacked
lickierambert replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Could be a really interesting game up there on Thursday if Mckay goes beforehand. We've got a crisis club double header this week! How nice is it to be sat on the other side of the fence for a change? -
Listening to Sherwood on SSN-I'd be quite worried as a Spurs fan. Him talking about the job sounds like a 'fan on the board' talking about commercial matters. The whiff of skate was quite pungent.
-
It'll be really interesting to see which side they out out tomorrow. Sherwood, to give himself the best possible chance of getting the job, will surely put out the best available side, which opens up the possibility of more injuries/suspensions and fatigue
