  1. Yep and also if he was doing it regularly for us getting 10-15 PL goals a season then he wouldn’t be with us but somewhere at a top 6 club.
  2. 2-0!!! REDMOND!
  3. I mean I know we have scored now but this statistic was speaking volumes- the final 3rd passes was far lower to Bournemouth’s but ultimately it is about what you do with it in the final 3rd.
  4. There really isn’t much difference between top 8 Championship and Bottom 6 PL clubs these days- I guess the parachute payments help that.
  5. Bednarek gets first yellow of the game
  6. Redmond tried to attack there, ran at defence. Ran into traffic but no problem with that at least he tried
  7. Those lines are horrifically drawn I don’t think KWP was that far offside as depicted.
  8. It’s 2021 and the frame we are using isn’t even level with the players. It may have been offside but again not the clearest.
  9. Chalked off.
  10. I’ve heard some good things about Rico at left back for Bournemouth. Perhaps someone to consider to replace Bertrand? Anyways- I am upbeat and positive about this- going to predict 1-0 Saints though, Djenepo to score!
  11. Was hoping for Fulham to win tonight, keep us closer to Leeds and spice things up at the bottom 😬 Others may think differently.
  12. Watching Spurs bottle a 2-0 lead in Europe is satisfying. I just hope after Kane they can fade away into mid-table obscurity
  13. Nigel Adkins has been announced new manager as Charlton Athletic. Good luck to him and Charlton.
  14. I do agree to an extent but to give ourselves the best chance of winning any trophy then statistically that would require us to remain in the Premier League.
  15. Agreed - this quote below I found quite interesting: “This talk of a plan B, I don’t understand what people mean. What they mean is, put a big guy up front, that’s a typical British… it’s not happening. It’s not the style of play. The style of play scores us a record goal last Tuesday night (after 55 passes). “I feel strongly about this. It’s a myth that that’s the problem; it’s not. The style of play gets us to the box three times more than the opposition, double the amount of touches in the opposition box. It (a plan B) just gets thrown at us all the time. “Ultimately, I believe fundamentally in how the game should be played. We won eight in 11 playing the same way, and then no one throws anything at you about the style of play. And then all of a sudden it’s, ‘You need a plan B’. No. No. We need to get better at what we do. We need to solve more problems being us, with the identity we want to have as a football club. “Otherwise, you’re just completely outcome-based and every single result changes how you feel about players, changes how you feel about the club, changes how you feel about the process. And I’m not going to do that, because my job is to be consistent with what we’re doing, because fundamentally I believe in it and I believe in the players.” That was Russell Martin, the MK Dons manager last week.
  16. That is not the attitude to have! The cup is all that we have left to salvage this season- I’m sure Ralph and the players know this. It would be sad but I couldn’t less if we won the trophy with empty stadiums- it would be bloody typical but I’m sure that’s what every other fan is saying that isn’t City/United/Chelsea!
  17. Forster will definitely start- Ralph has said earlier in the season that Forster is the designated cup keeper I think. Personally, I’d drop Bednarek for Salisu too, his positioning has been poor of late but otherwise team largely picks itself other than the Redmond vs Djenepo debate (I’d pick Djenepo). PS. The title for this build up thread is terrible!
  18. I wouldn’t have such a problem with this score knowing that a large number of U23s are playing for our main squad. However, apart from Tella that is all our main U23s right?! And they have lost 7-1 which is awful. Taken from the Athletic: "With this in mind, what on earth was Alan Pace, Burnley’s new owner, talking about when he made disparaging remarks about Southampton’s academy? In an interview with The Mail On Sunday, Pace said: “Look at Southampton, we have a tremendous amount of respect for what they did with their academy. Yet over the last five years, under the current owner, they have destroyed that. “This comes back to the different revenue streams. It cannot be based solely on the selling of players. And what has happened in the north west over the past few years is a shame… from having all these Premier League clubs, all this passion, to demoralising everyone because of bad owners.” Looks like Burnley bloke ain’t half wrong- something has gone amiss here.
  19. Agree. This is why our players play for lowly Saints god forbid they ever become top 6 players and then have to deal with flying around Europe on midweek too. Apart from City who have a luxurious squad and rotate at will, the likes of Fernandes/Rashford at Utd, Liverpool’s front 3 and then Kane/Son and other various top players are able to play 2/3 times a week at a far higher level. However I acknowledge these are technically far better players who don’t have to exert as much efforts because they are better with the ball, and equally there is no point comparing our front forwards to the top 6.
  20. Ralph’s interview (for anyone who missed it): "It's a combination of a lot of things, the second goal was a mentality killer but we had players coming in from the bench, they were fresh and they would give us a lift. "The way we tried to play was far away from what I wanted. You could see, it was chaotic. There was no plan and no clear idea during the final 30 minutes." "We have to. We have to work on this. We have shown in the past that when we have time to work on things we can come back to the highest level," he added. "We need to work on a few things, a few parts of our game. This is the challenge for next week." "[It was] Not good to be honest. It was very disappointing what we showed today, especially in the second half. "In the first half it was also the feeling that the opponent wants it a little bit more. We came back after the first goal, which was far too easy to concede. "Then we especially had problems with the second balls that were falling down. They played a lot of long balls in the first half, we struggled a little bit and then in the second half we changed. The goal we conceded we were in a normal shape, everybody is in his position and it cannot happen that easy. We are defending far too sloppy in that moment." "You can see that some automatism are going away because of no training in the past weeks or months. Then bad things are going dominant then it looks like this. "After 2-1 it was simply not convincing enough that we could turn the table again. In the end we had only one or two good chances. Che has a big one I think where he has to score normally. "But in total we did not deserve to get something today because we haven’t been good enough to be honest.”
  21. I agree, and if I knew the answer to that then we probably wouldn't be in the rut we are. As I said, I am still Ralph in and yes that owes to the great 2020 he gave us either side of the seasons which for sure has bought him time with board, players and fans (well some fans) alike. However, there will come a point where all that work he did in 2020 will be negated by this terrible run we are on now and by which point Ralph will be one of the many factors to be held accountable.
  22. My opinion is this- Ralph in for a little while yet. However the clock is ticking we are over the last 20 games the worst team in the PL we cannot hide from that. However, I think he needs some help and he can definitely do better. Look at his assistants- with all due respect that is not a PL worthy staff list. He has no one to bounce any ideas off and Kelvin/Dave are more GK coaches than someone who will offer meaningful analysis. The defence the last few weeks is in disarray- looks all over the place and there have been too many mistakes. A specialised defensive coach I reckon would do wonders on that front. Position Name First Team Manager Ralph Hasenhüttl First Team Assistant Coach Richard Kitzbichler First Team Assistant Coach Kelvin Davis First Team Assistant Coach Craig Fleming First Team Assistant Coach Dave Watson First Team Goalkeeping Coach Andrew Sparkes
  23. https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trainer/verfuegbaretrainer/statistik Assuming our policy is that we take coaches out of work only- who do you consider from the link above?
  24. Saints 1-2 Brighton FULL TIME.
