I’m actually quietly happy with this. A chance to give our fringe players some game time against L1 team to see how they stack up and some decent rest for our first XI (well reduce their matchday exertions as much as we can!). Better than to play Shrewsbury than a tough Leeds side If we can get through Shrewsbury without needing the likes of Ings, JWP, KWP etc (although JWP is a machine), then that gives us a very good chance against Arsenal the following weekend! I’d start Forster/Valery/Long/Diallo/Djenepo but we need to be wary of resting too many 1st team players I guess- we lost 5-0 to Northampton and 2-1 to Stevenage with the U21s (but beat MK Dons 2-1!) this season. It’d be nice to look at Salisu too.

Play the strongest team we have available. Take no precautions. The only change I would make is Vokins for Bertrand and Salisu for Bednarek if he is fit. Our next game isn’t even until the 16th- so they have one whole week to recover too. Ultimately, top 6 teams have PL then European games midweek and play on fine- why should ours need a rest for a L1 team? Plus if we can race into a nice two goal lead- I think we get 5 subs for this one- then N’lundulu, Valery, Smallbone, Long and one other ie. Tella or whoever can come on for the second half asap

What a game and what a win. Couldn’t be more prouder of everyone on that pitch and the staff. As for Jamie Carragher- tbf he did say we deserved to win that game and gave some credit to our win before going on about Liverpool’s woes. The majority of the audience will be Liverpool fans and so rightly they’ll focus on Pool more. Not a problem for me- we just got 3 points!
