  1. That is exactly what I mean, mass hysteria when infact the problem was in the main under control. "Many systems, such as embedded systems and chips, did not fail from Y2K because they did not even run on Julian calendars, says J. Greg Hanson, executive vice president at technology services company Criterion Systems. "The clock on the computer chip is not based on calendar time." Y2K was mostly a problem associated with business software, says Hanson, who at the time was chief software engineer for the US Air Force and led its $345 million Y2K program". As far as Global warming is concerned, what scientist do you believe?
  2. Why do I have to have a scientific qualification? Example: Nuclear power, some would argue that this is a less harmful way of creating power. Nuclear weapons, could wipe out mankind in the wrong hands/political powers. Created by scientists, controlled by government.
  3. Frankly, to some extent yes. I also feel that scientists are largely responsible for a lot that is good and bad in this world. Plus, the fact that many of them are in the hands of politicians and large corporate companies makes me nervous regarding some of their motives.
  4. As Johnny Bognor pointed out, there is only 150 years of historical record compared to millions of years that are unrecorded, therefore we are into a guessing game/prediction. Using the Millenium bug as an example, man is not very good at prediction.
  5. There are hard facts from both sides of the argument. The Millennium bug, predicted to be a cause of worldwide mass chaos, missiles were going to be launched by mistake, modern cars would stop running because of engine clock problems, financial institutions reliant on computers would crash etc etc. Bearing in mind that this would have been a 100% man made problem, caused by man and predicted by man, nothing happened at all apart from a few minor blips. So if we cannot correctly predict the future regarding things that we have created ourselves, how can we predict nature? Agreed, we must stop poisoning the earth, it simply is not clever, but I am not getting on this scaremongering bandwagon.
  6. This has got to be one of our best xmas periods ever, no points lost. Happy days! Feel sorry for those that made the trip though.
  7. Thanks for the advise Frankie!
  8. The point is that a line has to be drawn somewhere. Society is sick enough as it is without loose cannons like Boyle being aloud to upset people with disabilities, different race, soldiers dying in Afghanistan etc etc. His C4 show is sick, and yes, I will not watch anything with him in it again.
  9. Beat me to it damn you!
  10. yep, agreed. As far as Holmes and Hoy and probably a few more are concerned, purely on sporting acheivement they are not even close in comparison to Calzaghe. I know that Holmes does a bit for kids in athletics, not sure about Hoy, but I am sure being a coke head has not helped Calzaghe's reputation.
  11. For me anything less than promotion either automatically or via playoffs is not acceptable. There absolutely is no excuse for failure this time around.
  12. Its not all about the sport or the career they excelled in though is it. No doubting he was a great boxer, one of the best, but what has he done since? Has he given up a lot of his time to help future stars progress in the world of boxing? Has he freely given up his time to charity work? Is he constantly championing sport in his country? I dont know the answers to these questions, but if he is doing these things then yes he deserves a knighthood.
  13. On the nail mate! Cyber thugs/idiots, Real life saddos who will never see life outside of their bedroom.
  14. Don't be a chump with that old cliche, you have to watch some of it to realise how bad it is!, believe me it didn't take me long to realise how sick it was and then to turn it off. FFS!
  15. This!!!
  16. I'm no prude by a long shot, but Tramadol Nights is peverse. Any comedian who resorts to shock humour should give up before he is thrown off and this tw*t should be well and truly given the old boot or put in a straight jacket.
  17. Do like him or dislike him?. For me he goes way way over the top. On Mock the Week he is very quick but far too acidic and bitter. And his new program on channel 4, well I'm amazed they are letting it run. This blokes shows all the attributes of a sex starved serial killer and this program breaks all normal boundaries. What do you think?

  19. I will go with my own gut instinct because I am sceptical about the words of so called experts on both sides. I have listened and taken in various prophecies from various so called experts on various different topics and nine times out of ten they tend to end up to be a total load of b o l l i c k s. I have lived through and experienced one of the coldest winters 1962/1963 and one of the hottest summers in 1976. I lived abroad for 6 years and in that time where I lived had the hottest summer in living memory and the coldest winter in living memory. Basically weather patterns change and shift and always will. Man has and will always be a doom merchant. Yes I believe that pollution has not been helpful in any way or form, but since we have only had the ability to monitor ozone levels and melting polar ice flows for such a comparatively short time (20 years?) how can anyone make an accurate diagnosis when you consider that the earth has been here and forever changing for millions of years.

I have never considered I have OCD but I do have these little foibles. When I cut the lawn it has to be a certain way that leaves nice tidy stripes. If my mrs decides to cut it in here normal haphazard way it really angers me until I go over what she has done to somewhat rectify it. Sometimes after leaving the house and getting into the car I will have to return to check if I have locked the door, then get to the car and have to go back again to double check. I dont do this every time but it seems to happen more when I am stressed. I do the pocket thing mentioned earlier, constantly checking my pockets when out and double checking for keys ,wallet, ciggys etc. Weird thing is that I dont do this when I am with my mrs. Another one is typos when on the computer, I always spell "regards" wrong and always have to correct it, I always spell it as "regrads". I know I do this but I cannot stop the habit or whatever it is. Woof, woof!

    Help

That made me larf. If nothing else works, system restore back to before problem, that may do it.
  23. I think the Iceland advert with Jason Donovan making a right t i t of himself is getting my blood pressure rising now. God that annoying music, a mixture of the Can Can and a T Rex rift, advertising food that looks like it has been scraped off the pavement is driving me insane. I'm a celeb has got a lot to answer for, as that is the time every year that Iceland bless us with their cheap tacky adverts using has been and meaningless celebs to advertise their pig swill which continues all through Dec until the new year. Ahhhhhhhhhh
  24. I am definately a grumpy old man and proud of it and agree with almost everything those guys say. Even my grandson calls me grumpy instead af grampy. The older I get the more I hate what this world is turning into. A life as a hermit is increasingly becoming more appealing.
  25. In truth I am getting a bit sick of reading and hearing that line. It is abundantly clear that we do not have the best team in this league, even on paper. Perhaps we have the most expensive team assembled in this league but footballing history shows that means jack, which is proven by our current league form and position.
