Cue LFC . . . . .

You can't rule out the "human element", well you can but it might be foolish to do so - we only have to remember the Italian referee scandals of not that long ago, when Juve were quite severely punished. For example many Liverpool fans used to be very derogatory about a certain Mr Howard Webb, most particularly when they played Man United, something I took of course with the proverbial pinch of salt and a wry smile. That is until one day I discovered by chance he was / had been a serving police officer with South Yorkshire Police, a body primarily responsible of course for the continued and ongoing Hillsborough Disaster "cover ups", armed with such knowledge I was never sure again that he was not err shall we say somewhat biased?

Some delusion though we must surely admit on a somewhat logically basis if nothing else, is "better founded" in facts and truth than other delusion?

Let's stir the pot some more just for the hell of it http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3011860/Liverpool-biggest-club-trophies-won-edging-rivals-Manchester-United-silverware.html http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2792400/liverpool-claim-worldwide-fan-base-580m-people-just-looking-increase-anfield-s-capacity.html There is tons more of this stuff and Spurs rarely if EVER get a mention in regard to global attraction and impact of clubs and so on, ergo they only come close to Liverpool in their own fans minds, while the reality of the situation is far different. . . . .

Yes I understand that, however, can you see football being and remaining what it is, without match going fans? The great Jock Stein, "Without match going fans football is nothing" What would most "working class" do with their Saturday afternoons? I mean we could get rid of ACTUAL clubs altogether and make it a total cyber experience with "created" winners losers and transfers the whole works, even making it a participatory internet experience, hang on a minute . . . . . . . .

It may not be so much how financially rewarding it is per se, all very nice and welcome and in the millions for a major club over a season but the caveat is it remains a statement to how BIG and ambitious a club is and where it is headed. You're 18 and a really hot prospect a few clubs are clamouring for your signature you visit say the Saints, Real, Bayern and are shown around, away from all else the stadium and facilities do their own talking. They are impactive on the psyche telling so much. I remember so very vividly visiting the Camp Nou and what an indelible impression that made, you know you are at one of the world's biggest clubs in fact while there you feel you are at thee world's biggest club. Football without its match going fans and fanatical support is hard to imagine

As long as Saints are "forced" to continually sell their best players football history informs that the top 6 will remain a dream, and though dreams do come true, the bottom 6 is far more realistic. FFP was, so many of us "hoped", implemented to rein in the run away rich clubs, who after all were running their clubs on blatantly false economies. Now of course the FFP has been ameliorated to re-accommodate the rich clubs, shades of FIFA in EUFA? Probably. If Saints had been able to hold onto the likes of Lallana, Toby, Shaw, Lovren, Clyne, Lambert, Chambers, Bale, Walcott, Morgan etc etc and added to them as they have in the past, we'd be talking about will Saints win the ECL? And how good would such a clean breath of fresh air have been for football? Still you gotta have dream if you don't have dream how you gonna have dream come true? Or something like that. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/33109008

Keep it up, and in the process keep proving you are precisely that - it's probably therapeutic for you - in that many people claim confession is good for the soul;)

Hi LLP, - the link provided was mere expediency not to establish proof beyond doubt concerning the matter while of course you provide nothing at all [fair enough]. However, if you care to say Google something along the lines "Man U want Nathaniel Clyne", I'm confident you'll find many articles concerning their undoubted and ongoing interest. Indeed look no further than the current "Clyne Thread" some 40 pages long now on here; when it initially commences, most of the posts are "certain" or of the mind Nathaniel is United bound up to the point when it becomes more or less quite obvious where he was in fact bound. As for belief about his drop in form causing him to "miss out", stick with it as is your want. However, once again in threads past and in the current "Clyne Thread" many Saints fans are [or certainly were] of the opinion he was thee BEST R/B in the country bar none, others claiming he is/was certainly in the Top 3. His form - if it dropped - remembering to be fair to him that the WHOLE Saints team "fell away" - could be ascribable to many things, not least of which he knew he was on his way to a much bigger club and that "sort of" influenced matters combined with the England thing and so on and so on . . . . . . . ..
-
Hmmm whence your certainty? I applaud strong convictions when based on truth but IF based on mere hunches or the like it can sort of undermine matters, so unless you have absolute proof of that in this case I wouldn't be so sure. http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/450784/Louis-van-Gaal-Nathaniel-Clyne-transfer-news

What's Steve McFadden aka Phil Mitchell doing in there? It seems some people will do anything for publicity.
-
Best guess scenario, try Everton FC Or Man U FC

Undoubtedly you are Golac and a prize one at that, but mummy should have taught you by now to let people work such things out for themselves rather than for you to give into the need to go public and inform people of the same.

You cannot declyne "to answer" - it not a noun, it's a verb, and you can only conjugate a verb. Mind you, everyone is entitled to their sexual preference. Then Hughie in relation to your very kind response one is compelled to offer that a quick glance at the Forum readily informs that anyone with such a "disposition" as you relate is going have their work well and truly cut out, however, we should never of course knock gainful employment of any description. While about this I have to say my flabber was somewhat ghasted sir in your failure to acknowledge that the extraction of comedic elements of a communication [among perhaps other expediences], perceived or otherwise, can often be to the detriment, indeed can override rigid complicity with any perceived linguistic and or grammatical restraints. Such flouting or disregard is what is often termed "poetical licence" though there are those among us with a more barbaric interpretation of things who vent their spleen concerning such rules in terms such as "who ****ing cares"?. Hence so little attention is paid to the deeper grammatical rules and interpretations in regard to of the use of our language; language being organic as it is and therefore in a state of constant flux. In regard to the latter such careless and indiscriminate flouting of grammatical rules must have passed you by? I mention this in case "with the usual summer grammatical pedantry season well and truly open " as you claim you are of the mind to undertake the Herculean task of correcting the grammar of the Forum yourself - something you seem more than well equipped to do. Incidentally as something of an aside it could be readily debated you are wrong in your statement "you can only conjugate a verb" besides biology to which you seem to make a comedic allusion, one can, if I recall correctly conjugate in mathematics, chemistry, bibliography and botany. Should you elect to undertake the correcting of grammar and its correct use and interpretation on the forum, do know that you have my full support and that hating desecration and ill-use of our mother tongue as I do, I fully encourage you to do so!

Surely on that basis "your irrelevancy" applies or can apply to all clubs away from their own fans? So let's come at this another way and see if we can make these murky waters any clearer - if one took a poll across world football on say the basis "who is the most relevant team in football now or in the past, between Liverpool and Southampton"? Are you of the mental disposition that Southampton would win the poll? Surely not? The majority of fans would possibly utter and whisper "who is Southampton?" Since in never having won the Title, or any major European trophy, indeed no major trophy win in the last 39 years and that FA cup win, the only "major" trophy win in their whole history, has hardly conspired to make any resounding impact of a magnitude to make the impartial fan sit up and take notice. So where are we then? We are back to where we started, Liverpool have relevancy to their own support, which on a global basis is far in excess of Southampton's, yet such relevancy does not, nor can it undermine Southampton's relevancy to their supporters AND in the great scheme of things [as previously alluded to] if there are no Southampton's, no Lincoln City, no Rochdale, no Mansfield etc etc there is no really competitive football league and therefore no Liverpool, Man U, Chelsea etc. etc. and going further afield no Real Madrid, no Barca, no Bayern etc. etc. so in the end it can be readily debated that all teams do have a relevancy to each other, no matter was is claimed or espoused. On such a basis then I think it is safe to say Liverpool FC, DO HAVE RELEVANCY, as indeed does every other team in the context of what we are discussing here.

Woy, please!

Maybe LVG would maybe he wouldn't and maybe in a world of maybe's, a maybe somewhat substantiated by the article, maybe Clyne the best R/B in the country followed his heart, maybe that is just possible? After all Man U will do almost anything to usurp Liverpool and vice versa, and £90,000 a week when, as pointed out, they will pay some one like Falcao £365,000 per week with no Prem experience, not to mention Rooney some £300,000 per week and Luke Shaw and Van Persie and DI Maria and so and so on . . . . anyway you get the point, £90,000 becomes relative chicken feed does it not?
-
Why on earth would Manchester United, merely pull out of signing, as most Saints fans agree is arguably the beat R/B in the league and for a paltry £12.5 mill at that? A team that paid a £12 mill loan fee, topped off with a reputed £365,000 per week for Falcao? So perhaps it is not so Glasshopper . . . . . http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/450784/Louis-van-Gaal-Nathaniel-Clyne-transfer-news

He de-clyned to answer . . . . [sorry I'll get me coat]
-
To the 45 thousand fans who attend every game and the millions more globally? Surely not. Maybe to you fair enough point taken but not to their fan base, most especially their match going fan base. You see virtue of your claim of irrelevancy what would that make say Rochdale, S****horpe , Huddersfield, Lincoln even the Saints themselves? The very backbone of our league and its history and without whom . . . . . . . .
-
To be fair that applies to any massive club, be it Real, Barca, Man U, Chelsea, Bayern, etc etc City are gradually getting there.
-
A lot of players can take a season or more to truly "settle" and adapt most especially in the pressure cooker of very high expectations concomitant with its swift disappointments, forms of latent development to the fore. For example, [painful I know for many Saints fans] if Lallana starts to perform as well as we all know he can, as does Lovren and some of the other players start finding their feet, Clyne, Can, Milner, Ings, Firmino, Ibe, etc. etc. Liverpool "could" have a very powerful squad indeed. Can Rodgers utilise it? If he can't within what say 2 months or so of the new season, it'll be adiós amigo?
-
I think it works basically on the lines that if the player moves and earns more money in the process, then the selling club are not liable for "damages" in regard to the player leaving. Now loyalty bonuses [usually the case] might have to be paid, a lot of it depends of course on what is written in specific clauses in the contract- something which of course we'll never be privy to.
