My understanding is that the half of the clubs with the lower coefficients go into one pot and the other go into another pot and one club is drawn from each pot.

It is impossible to say.

There is some truth to this but it is not that bad. We are perfectly fine for the 4 association trained European slots. We have only two for the club trained European slots (Isgrove and Schneiderlin) but even if we had not transferred anyone only Lallana would have counted so we still would have been short. And all our younger players can play in Europe. I discussed this situation at the end of January on my blog. http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/2015/01/southamptons-european-roster-issues.html I discussed the home grown situation for all premier league clubs as part of my analysis of the newly proposed home grown rule changes: http://redsloscf.blogspot.com/2015/04/greg-dyke-and-his-terrible-horrible-no.html

Areola was my goal keeper in my very first FM save (FM 2010). He won the Champions League 5 times for Southampton. This is not a prediction.

Such actions would be consistent with FIFA statute 17-1 requiring that each member of FIFA " shall manage its affairs independently and with no influence from third parties." On the other hand, that provision can also be interpreted as not prohibiting governments from prosecuting people who work for FIFA members who break the law. I assume they are going to adopt this later reading. If FIFA were to threaten the USA with expulsion on these grounds, they would be committing a whole new crime--some variation of extortion or obstruction of justice or both--under American law and instead of just a few individuals all of FIFA could be held criminally responsible. I would be very surprised if Blatter thinks he would pay hardball (a baseball expression not a genitalia expression) with the US government like that.

I got the impression from subsequent statements that he wasn't pushing to go, the club just could resist receiving 16 million for a second team player. (It might have been wise to resign Clyne before making this decision however.)

I believe that is correct. Their ownership of Rojo I think is one of the problems we had in our attempt to buy him. Since Toby worked out well, it is all good.

The new system is dependent on a nation's FIFA ranking average over a period of time. Senegal is currently 36. I assume, but am not certain, that their ranking over the relevant period of time is between 31 and 50 which means to get a work permit he has to have played in 75 percent of the competitive matches in the past two years. According to the transfermarkt link you provided he played in 13 out of 14 so he can automatically get a work permit.

That's right. I thought it was of critical importance to our analysis of potential happenings this summer.

It was after midnight. I was sleepy. I thought about checking. I didn't. I went to bed.

Since I don't consider him a defector, I have posted this here. http://www.soccerex.com/news/2015/05/calum-chambers-signs-new-deal-ahead-cup-final

I think a case can be made for Allen Pardew. Newcastle and Palace without Pardew 6 11 21 29pts 38 65 -27 The rest of the seasons for them 17 7 14 58pts 49 49 0

Except that there is reason to believe matching fixing is more wide spread that just this and England is not immune. In fact, your libel laws make it somewhat difficult to properly police the game. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2746254/SCANDAL-OF-MATCH-FIXING-REVEALED-The-FA-s-secret-list-suspects-playing-England.html

suggesting that the South Korean knock out games were dodgy. This on reddit

While I don't claim to be a tactical expert, I always thought that Clyne was more effective when he used his pace to get to the line before putting in the cross. This year, he seemed to cut inside a lot more and was less effective except for those rare instances when he got a good shot off by cutting inside. Is my observation valid?

Center field is a baseball term, not a hockey one. Is Centre field also a cricket term? I really have no idea. Generally I try to avoid terms that might qualify as being misused which is kind of strange since I can enjoy debating the subject. On an unrelated subject, but related to my blog, I have been out of town since Monday with no ability to post here or blog there so I missed my opportunity to jump right on the FIFA indictment story. However, as an American criminal lawyer who blogs about football this subject should be right in my wheelhouse (in the baseball, not the sailing, sense). Does anyone have any particular requests or suggestions as to what aspect of the issue I should focus on in my blog? To the extent I can, I would be happy to address the issue in a way that people who read my blog would prefer.

In effect, it is a two step gift of money to the club. There are financial fair play and, potentially, tax reasons for not just giving money as equity immediately instead of going through the loan process.
-
If it were football manager, we would have no chance of losing either qualifier. West Ham gets to play 8 of those games starting in late June.
-
It is not so much cheap and unwanted as value defined by getting what you need. For any club that can afford him Messi is a money ball player, for example. Long could be viewed as a moneyball player by the club if they believed that he filled an important need and that need could not be filled for less money at the same or better level of quality. Because Newcastle is going to win something before Ashley will sell the club.

To be fair, I am sure we can find embossing threads on this forum from last summer. The difference is that ours were all overly pessimistic rather than overly optimistic.

I predict that the weather will vary. FM has us paying him 55K pounds a week.
