I wouldn't say that the Bundesliga has become far easier. It's just that Bayern has joined the level of Barcelona and Madrid, with the team they had last year and the way they played, they would be champions in the PL easily too.

It would be silly if I didn't know what I was talking about. From that distance and that angle and knowing Willian likes to shoot at goal from that angle, Stekelenburg in his best form would have made the save like I've seen him doing before with more difficult shots. Willian's free quick took some time so Stekelenburg had plenty of time to adjust his position and timing. In the example in this video he had less time to react while the attempt from Kaka was more difficult to save. But that was Stekelenburg in his best form...
-
Stekelenburg is a great goalie but still not in his best form. Otherwise this free quick from William would never have been a goal. He clearly misjudged it.

I mean a couple of hattricks from J-Rod and Juanmi for example... It shouldn't be that difficult as the idiot Danny Blind has selected 5 players from Ajax for the national team.

Thanks Badger! Feyenoord is at the top of the table right now though we still don't play very well. Luckily we have Elia this year, trying to get back in his old form by playing regularly. Hopefully he will make the difference when we play Ajax twice in the Kuip later this month (competition and cup). Would be nice when the Saints give them something to think about next thursday...

When the Saints have no problem with Koeman leaving I guess he will go when Liverpool knocks on the door. When the Saints don't want him to leave it won't be a problem for Koeman as he is very happy in Southampton and he will get a new challenge at some other club (or country) when his current contract expires. But that's not going to happen as Liverpool will go after Klopp or Ancelotti.

Elia always had big potential but he made some wrong choices or his agent did. His move to Juventus is a good example: it was all about the money but careerwise really stupid. So he had the cash to crash some Bentley's at four o' clock in the morning but his career went down the hill faster than his cars could... At 28 it looks like he's changed his mind now, he could have gone to some desert for many more millions but instead he chose to play for Feyenoord to get back in form and to enjoy some real football in a real stadium. He doesn't play for the money as Feyenoord has a salary cap (500K in euro's before taxes...) which they will exceed for a player like Elia but it won't be far more than 1 million euro's and that's peanuts to him. As he's getting better and better I expect him to be selected for the Dutch national team to put some pressure on Memphis Depay who doesn't deliver...

What's there to understand? I'm a Feyenoord fan for almost 50 years now but there were always other clubs I could sympathise with... There are several clubs in Europe I like, in England it's Southampton for me. I took an intrest in the Saints back when le Tissier played his marvellous game and didn't bother about playing for a big club. I was pleasantly surprised when Ulli van Gobbel became a Saint. He wasn't a great player but I did like the guy who was some kind of cult figure at Feyenoord. I saw the downfall of the Saints but wasn't heartbroken like a real fan and I wasn't in high spirits when The Saints made it back to the PL, it did move me however. Why? Because I somehow feel connected to this club from some small town across the channel I will probably never visit as it is not likely that Feyenoord will meet Southampton in a European game... (That would be the day!) My sympathy for the Saints is comparable to having some good memories of former girlfriends who do have a place in your heart. Does that make any sense to you? It is nice to visit this forum every now and then and to read what's going on and yes, the fact that Koeman, Clasie and Pelle are part of Southampton these days does matter to me...

Off course it's going to benefit the players but it will end the ridiculous amounts of money spent on players like Martel, Di Maria and so on. I don't see ManU paying 80 million euro's as a salary to Martel... Considering the youth academy: in Holland we already lose our best talents to clubs abroad without getting a decent fee as it is not allowed to give a player a contract before he is 18 years old. Usually these talents are wasted as they get no playtime at all or they are sent away on loan to clubs where it is impossible for them to make an impression because of the way these clubs play. I don't know the rules in England concerning the contracts for youth players and I don't know how this effects the Saints at the moment but for Dutch clubs it wouldn't mean a big change. As someone said above: it will only work when clubs are allowed a limited squad (25 or maybe 28 players with a contract). But I also have doubts if this is going to happen.
-
True, especially in the PL. I regularly wonder if British clubs like Stoke, West Ham, Liverpool etc. etc. do have a vision about their identity and the way they want to play. I get the impression they're just looking for big names, throwing around millions like pennies and still you get to see way too much boring football with every now and then some great class by individual players. With all the cash at hand it could and should be a lot different...

Saints ran out of money and could not sign Eriksen
van Hanegem replied to Batman's topic in The Saints
I'm asking myself the same question... If it is Christian Eriksen it's a load of crap. Ajax bought him for less than 1 million euro's from Odense after Chelsea said they didn't want him. A choice between Ajax and Southampton back in 2008 wasn't difficult for a teenager... But Wotte is known in Holland for talking crap, unbelievable that this idiot got a chance at Southampton after all his terrible mistakes at Feyenoord. -
I believe that it is better for the Saints and Koeman when they part after three years. Koeman is not known for having a long time vision which results in doing the same thing every year (same tactics, same practises and so on). When things start to become a 'routine' there is usually no progress in the long run and then things fall apart, usually ending in sacking the manager and a club left in turmoil. The board of Southampton would be wise to start soon to think about the future without Koeman. For example: how would they like to see the Saints play and what type of coach/manager is the right man to make things happen?
-
I mentioned Frank de Boer in reply to Saint-IQ's remark about a "high profile Dutchy". When it has to be a Dutch manager (and for me that isn't necessary) Frank de Boer is the only other dutchman at the moment who's able to bring in something "extra" to SMS. de Boer knows how to deal with English football as he has proven with a 'not so good' Ajax against the likes of ManU and ManCity for example and he likes to play an attractive game whenever possible (keeping the opponent under pressure on their own half with high paced ball circulation). Off course this depends on the skills of the players available but I believe that the Saints do have better players than Ajax had for the last years... It would take some time to change the way the Saints play now but at least it will be more attractive. Though he says he's more than happy to stay at Ajax after more than 5 years it's expected that he will make a move for a bigger competition, probably to a bigger club than Southampton but I believe it would be better for him to start at a club with lesser expectations than Liverpool for example.
-
"No intelligence and creativity" sums it up for me. Again.
-
That should be Frank de Boer from Ajax but it would'nt surprise me if Liverpool gets to him first...

There are loads of ex internationals, Blind is assisted by van Basten and van Nistelrooy at the moment but they're not the right persons yet. When it comes to the younger generation Koeman would be the best choice but like I said above, he is not going to the Dutch FA as long as Bert van Oostveen is there and IMO Koeman is not the right choice at this very moment. Besides, I don't expect that Blind will be sacked for not qualifying for the EC as the game against Iceland was his first as manager. He will be sacked when he loses a couple of games in the qualification for the WC but that's still far away.

Ronald and Erwin in drag... (yes, really)
van Hanegem replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
It's from a stupid television show called "the playback show" which was very popular back then among many of my fellow countryman. I guess it was the start of all the sh*t we're exporting these days such as "The voice of..." and all this other senseless rubbish in which you can see idiots dancing or singing. However, there could be a nice chant be made out of this next game at SMS. A sign with Hepi & Hepi will help the Koeman bros remember their stupidity. They can appreciate this as they do have a good sense of humour. -
Hahaha! Don't worry, Koeman detests Bert van Oostveen, the current chairman of the Dutch FA who let him down and chose for Hiddink and a stupid construction in which Blind would take over after Hiddink. I guess Koeman is laughing his ass off at the moment. Besides that, the Dutch national team needs a coach who is able to build things up from the beginning and that is not a task for Koeman who is more a "result trainer" as we say in Dutch.
-
The current Dutch team doesn't belong on the EC or the WC, it's just not good enough. With Danny Blind as manager it's safe to say Holland won't manage to qualify. This idiot replaced his central forward (Huntelaar) for a very poor defender (Bruma) after Martins Indi was send away by the ref while Holland needed a win. "I was aiming for a draw" was his reply afterwards. Coward...
-
A handball...
-
Nah, Martins Indi got a red card and is suspended for the next game so Blind called in VvD who was sent away before the game against Iceland because Blind believes Bruma (failed at every club including his current club PSV) and Riedewald (a youngster from Ajax who played as much as 5 games for his club until now...) are better. Blind is an idiot off course and I don't expect VvD to play against Turkey.

You really don't want Toivonen at your club, he's a real pain in the ass. Good to see some Frenchman hitting him in the right place:
-
It's disgusting. So much money and still you see many games in the PL which aren't worth looking at. Good to hear a Dutch Euro politician saying this has to change as it is killing football: "as the EU we can take measures as limiting the amount of foreign players or to decide that football has to be broadcast on public channels". I don't believe he will succeed but I wish him good luck...

CONFIRMED - Virgil Van Dijk joins on Five Year Deal
van Hanegem replied to Brizzie Saints's topic in The Saints
You are really becoming a sad old git then?
