  1. Why would I go off on one? When I was small I was spoon fed Christianity as the one and only religion. Fortunately my parents didn’t force me to stay in Sunday School when I said I didn’t want to go anymore but I, like many of my generation have been brainwashed from an early age. I know a few middle age born again Christians who have got back into the whole God thing when you would hope that they would be old enough to know better. The point is that we all have filters. You for example saw Pelle as crap footballer whereas most people who saw him play thought he was pretty good. Some people grow up with a religious background and pick up on the peaceful message and live their lives accordingly. Some hear a different message and go down a different path. As we have been trying to point out to the Islamophobes on here, Islam is no different to other religions in this respect. There are extreme factions in all religions and in most societies. Some people can see that these issues are a part of their own society and some, the Tommy Robinson Yaxley-Lennons of this world, see them as something separate who need to be removed from our island. In this particular instance this young woman grew up within a certain religion and it sounds very much like she was groomed and fed a distorted version of what her peers believed in. A bit like you sitting next to a kid at St Mary’s week after week saying see that big bloke with the greasy hair up front, he’s rubbish he is. A suseptical kid will eventually see it your way and grow up believing that Pelle is rubbish. She doesn’t sound terribly bright and seems to have accepted a number of things about ISIS without question. On beheadings she was told Islam was ok with it so that was fine. If you stripped citizenship from every thick, gullible person half of this forum would be stateless. You ask the question earlier was she a combatant? I don’t know where you got that suggestion from other than your own deep seated prejudice because from what I have read she was nothing more than a housewife. Maybe you know different? If she is guilty of any crime she needs to go through the normal process and be dealt with accordingly. If she hasn’t and wishes to return to her country and her family, reject extremism and embrace the values of our society, I would expect any half decent human being to be willing to give her a second chance. You provide me with evidence that she has been chopping people’s heads off and I will quite happily change my mind.
  2. She is a British citizen because she meets the official criteria. Whatever crimes she is guilty of, she is guilty as a British citizen. Stripping her of her citizenship defies International Law. Her citizenship should not be the issue here. Her conduct should. I assume that most of us on this thread are British citizens. Whatever crimes we may commit, we remain as British citizens. It is no ones right to deny anyone their official heritage. This whole episode is an unecessary sideshow to what is the main problem, radicalisation and support for extremist factions. This person and her actions are very much our problem and we need to deal with it.
  3. They don’t have to be “our fault” exactly but things don’t happen in a vacuum do they. There are cause and effects and, as we know, these issues are deep rooted. It also doesn’t have necessarily to do with guilt. What about responsibility or a basic sense of humanity? This young women was born and raised here. Her family are here. She is a product of her upbringing here. Whatever drove her to leave here and start another life in Syria, it come from whatever influences she received whilst living here. If she returns, she will have to face the consequences of the society in which she grew up and that is exactly the way it should be. Not passing the buck has nothing to do with Christian guilt and everything to do with taking responsibility for your own citizens.
  4. Spot on Duckie. There are plenty of people who I wish were not British citizens. One is back in the news again today, Tommy Robinson Yaxley-Lennon. We don’t get to chose just because we don’t like them or what they have done but it is open season for racists and Islamophobes whenever something like this comes up. I don’t see the usual suspects queuing up to have the plentiful numbers of “white” “Christian” scumbags stripped of their nationality. She is a Bristish national. She should be allowed back into her country and should face the legal process if it is considered that she has broken any laws, just like any other British citizen.
  5. Exactly. She is a British subject. Her new born son is a British subject. We can't just pretend that she is someone else's problem. Of course she should be allowed back in the country. If she is guilty of any criminal offences then she should go through the system like any other British subject. Her son should have the opportunity to grow up in a decent and humane society and at least could have that chance now unlike her other two children. She comes across as very gullible and easily led. Perhaps having to come back and face the music will help her realise what a huge error of judgement she has made and through the process become a better mother to her son? Perhaps not. Either way it is something that we need to deal with here. At the very least her sorry tale might deter others who think that throwing their lot in with the Jihadis is a good idea. As for the poster who thinks that she should be hanged, as far as we know at the moment the only crime she has committed is to travel on a false passport. Perhaps put your pitchfork away until we find out if she has done anything more than marry and have children with a member of ISIS?
  6. I think that your protestations that you are not an Islamophobe can finally be put to bed and if it is true that your wife’s family are Muslim they must be so proud of your posting history on this forum.
  7. But it is not our club it is his. Remind me again how many millions did Markus spend on players of his own money? How many news conferences did Markus give? We have always been a self sustaining club. That isn’t going to change any time soon. Last year the club was slagged off for buying for the sake of it, this year for not buying at all. The club made it clear that this January they would only buy if the right players(s) became available. By all account they didn’t. How is that the club’s fault? How many transfers were made in the Premiership in the last window? We know that the January window is difficult and we’re warned not to expect much, if anything, yet still the whinging goes on. The club got slated for letting players leave in the past yet other clubs are supposed to roll over and sell to us mid season just because we are the mighty Saints?
  8. Nail on head!
  9. Not unless he calls women “chicks” Duckie
  10. We already have a centralist political party. It is a sign of the times though that they seem to have vanished when they really should be hoovering up votes. As with everything Brexit is casting its Nosferato like shadow over it. Every party is affected by the leave/stay factions. If one good thing comes out of Brexit it may be the realisation that our political system has to change. I won’t be holding my breath though. Clegg had a glorious opportunity to try and push through reforms but f cked it, and his Party up big time instead. As for this wussy independent group, they should all face a by election and let the people who originally voted for them have their say.
  11. Sorted out the financial mess that Cortes left us in. Four consecutive top ten finishes. A cup final. European football. More success than her father achieved with the club. What a poor return for “zero investment.” If that doesn’t warrant a torrent of personal abuse I don’t know what does. Ok hypo, now start with the “yeah, buts.”
  12. You have to wonder what someone’s weight has to do with anything. Also what Markus would make of the unpleasant abuse heaped onto his daughter. Criticism of the way someone runs the club is one thing, the personal abuse something else.
  13. I beg to differ Duckie, but then you are stuck in a 70’s time warp where women are “chicks” and “birds” and cloggers could make a living in professional football. Fortunately the world has moved on and that is mostly no longer the case. By his own admission he was a clogger. 3 England B caps? They clearly had a look at him and thought “no thanks.” For the record, Vinnie Jones, another clogger, got 9 full Welsh caps. Would you have been happy to see Jim in a Saints shirt? However he performed for the likes of Brentford, Millwall and Rangers, my memories of him playing for us are not good ones.
  14. He was voted Brentford’s fifth best ever player. Brentford. Fifth! He isn’t the worst ever player I have seen play for us but he would certainly make it into my worst ever Saints XI. I must have missed his better performances but do remember one game when he seemed to get through the whole 90 minutes without touching the ball. He came from an era when 3rd and 4th division players were mainly cloggers and hoofers. It would be hard to imagine him having a career in professional football if he was playing nowadays. I used to play against people like him every week on park pitches. He said himself that he couldn’t get anywhere near decent players unless he was just kicking them. As has been said, one of Branfoot’s finest!
  15. You do know it’s not the 70’s any more don’t you?
  16. One of the worst players I have seen in a Saints shirt.
  17. This would be the same Batman that told us, week in, week out, how cr ap Pelle was? I think most people on here recognised at the time that he was a decent manager but also at the time, he did not have a plan B if his high press didn’t work. People learn and improve (apart from Batman it would appear) and that would seem to be the case with Pochettino. He still hasn’t won anything yet though
  18. By far the best goalkeeper I have ever seen. I remember cursing when Pele headed the ball down in the corner and couldn’t believe it when the ball didn’t go it. But that wasn’t a one off. He made goalkeeping look easy which, of course, it isn’t. I saw him play for Stoke against Fulham. There was a shot from about 20 yards out that Banks moved to save but it hit a defender and changed direction. He was in midair but somehow twisted the other way and put the ball over the bar. My brother and I just looked at each other and said how on earth did he do that? A true sporting legend and by all accounts a decent human being too. RIP Gordon.
  19. He has just returned from injury. Leganes are currently only 3 points off of 6th place.
  20. How so? We need two decent keepers and FF isn't in the picture. Makes perfect sense to me. The only problem is that we haven't been able to offload FF.
  21. Which is all very well if Birmingham were happy to sell, which clearly they were not.
  22. So the idea that disgruntled senior players causing problems in the camp because they aren’t getting regular games so being shipped out to help restore morale doesn’t wash? Yet only a couple of days ago it was seen as the reason why things had changed and why we were unbeaten this year? One poor result and the world falls in and we are back to where we were. We weren’t the worst club in the world before Christmas, we weren’t last week and we aren’t now. But there is clearly a lot of work to be done in terms of the playing strength and that has only just started. What happens in the summer will obviously depend on which division we are in but we can depend on one thing at least, the whinging will continue here.
  23. Wow, and these people call themselves supporters. I do wonder why some people waste so much of their lives slagging off something they say they “support.” If supporting Southampton FC makes you that unhappy and angry surely your lives would be better spent doing something else? Yes, the match yesterday sucked and was hugely frustration but it was just a game of football. I would have added that nobody died, but people did die, and two supposed football supporters made fun of that. If you want to get really angry at something, get angry at morons who think it is okay to behave like that - God knows football crowds are full of people like that. We are a bang average side and have been for a while. I have been supporting this club since 1966 and for the vast majority of that time we have been a bang average club. If you want constant success you really are in the wrong place.
