How did we contrive to lose that? Cardiff are a very poor side but once again we have plenty of possession but don’t put enough pressure on their goal. We gave away 2 soft goals again, the second our not unfamiliar Keystone Cops defending from the moment Stephens gave the ball away. Ralph didn’t look a happy bunny for most of the match. Why not? Isn’t the point off academy players to bring new talent through to the first team? If they aren’t good enough then we still hope that they will fetch a decent fee so that we can reinvest. Would you have us just dump the academy and buy up “outsiders?” I wouldn’t say there is a fascination with academy players, but I think most normal people prefer to see home grown players succeed rather than picking off proven talent from elsewhere.

That footballing genius Adrian Durham spent a large part of his programme the other day slagging off Benitez for playing a weakened team in the cup. His rationale was that he had a better chance of a cup run than beating City so put out a stronger team in the cup and a weaker one against City. D’oh! Yet another example of why those that can do and those who can’t whitter away from the sidelines.

The assumption that we have enough to avoid relegation is dangerous. Like them or not, the players being shipped out have Premiership experience and provide strength in depth. A few more injuries and suspensions and we are down in Harry’s Land of the bare bones. Hopefully we will see a couple coming in. If not and we do get hit with more injuries and suspensions we are going to have to rely on the academy players to get us the points to stay up! Squeaky bum time!

So all of those mentioned were playing crap at the time they were selected? Players can show potential and then not go on to realise it. Players can go through purple patches and then hit a downturn in form. Hoedt showed enough previously to be signed by a Premiership club and to be selected to play for his country so he clearly impressed somebody. Still, once you are condemned by this place that's it for your career eh Cabbage? Makes you wonder why the likes of JWP and Jan Bednarek stayed with us . It is a shame to see any one fail here, but some seem to take a great delight in it to the extent that they carrying on slagging these people off long after they have gone (see Puel etc).

Getting back on track, has the Labour Party died yet?

It wasn't that long ago that Bednarek was getting tons of flak on here. Hoedt has played for his country so must have something about him. Okay, so it didnt work out here for him but hopefully the move will do him good and we will get our money back too.

Both are injured currently but are both first choices in their respective positions. It is a no brainier that we need both of them fit and playing.
