It was a miracle that we survived on crowds of 15k at The Dell. Not so much bad management as getting by on what we had and making the most of it. There wasn't the sort of money around that there is now and I remember being told that Rupert Lowe didn't know where the next pound was coming from at one point. A number of people tried to turn things around and failed. Still, without those years in the footballing wilderness we would not be where we are today. Who would trade those wonderful years as we started our climb back for years of Premiership mediocrity? Not me for one. There was no way we could have remained at The Dell sadly but things move on and so has the club.

That makes sense. I did think it odd him playing Groves out of position in a league match!
-
Meant to write this a while back so apols if it has been covered already. Groves is a regular on TalkSport and was talking about when he knew his days were numbered at Saints. He had been out injured for a long time but was fit again. Alan Ball told him he was playing at full back. He had NEVER played in that position in his life and knew his time was up at that point. He played a stinker and never played for the Saints again. To be fair he admitted that he was finished at that point after a bad run of injuries. My issue though is why play him at all if you have decided he is not good enough? Anyone remember him playing at full back?

I haven't watched cricket on TV for years but he was the man when I did. Excellent broadcaster. Not quite John Arlott but still top quality. RIP.

To be fair Whitey, there was an internal enquiry and Clarkson was adjudged to have done what we heard he had done.

Sadly Sarnia these incidents happen all too frequently which is why many of us have issues with arming police and the gun laws in the USA.

No wonder his knees gave out, carrying that massive ego around all day! -
Agreed. A fit JRod would have made a big difference this season. Massive loss for us.

Even his knees were against him!

So he wasn't totally honest about the reasons he left QPR. What a surprise! -
He did. He hit someone which is common assault. Luckily for him the person he hit did not press charges and the police have decided not to take it any further.

Lallana would have been out injured and Lambert would have been bench warming. Where would we have been if we had Messi and Ronaldo? Pointless question. Why worry? We could actually have been worse off. We will never know and there are better things to worry about (like who is going to be the next PM).

So he crossed a line but only a small line, one not big enough to prevent him working for his employers again. The Beeb have bottled it.

With an ego that size, why wouldn't he? I don't understand how they feel they can sack him then put him back on the screen within a few weeks. Mind you Ross still takes the Queens shilling on Radio 2. Shame the BBC don't have the courage of their convictions. It is a shame too that the police have dropped the case. One again there is one rule for the celebrities and another for us plebs.

Sarnia, I am sorry if I have missed your comments about the slaying off 50 year old Walter Scott by a police officer (and subsequent attempt to alter the crime scene). The officer was clearly under threat as the overweight Scott ran (well stumbled) in the opposite direction. The brave officer, in fear of his life, put several rounds into Scott's back whilst he was trying that famous attacking manoeuvre (ie running away). Whilst the dangerous man lay on the ground dead, the brave officer approached the body and handcuffed if. He then put then moved a piece of evidence (the stun gun that Scott was supposed to have threatened him with) by the body. Fortunately for us, the brave officer's action were recorded by a passer by (who somehow managed to avoid being filled with holes too) so we have a record of what happened and the officers bravery in the face of grave danger has been kept for use in future training programmes. ps, I'll give you one guess as to Scott's skin colour. Thoughts?
