I dont accept that Cortese has done little wrong. Whether you agree that Adkins should have been sacked or not the way he was treated was appalling. He overspent in the summer on players not worth that sort of money. Our first season back in the Prem and we look like a poor man's Liverpool rather than Southampton FC (bring back the stripes ffs). The programme sellers incident, his spat with the Echo, his treatment of MLT and Benali - there is quite a long list and it will get longer. In his defence many will say success at any price. I started supporting this club in 1966 becaus it was a family club not a "brand." Personally I wish the bloke would find a level of decency from somewhere.

Slightly better bunch of players to work with dont you think? And there were plenty of occasions when he "lost it" and nothing changed.
-
I liked Adkins quiet, focussed and positive approach. I am not sure how many times kicking off will work when a cool head is called for but I guess we'll find out!

JRods shooting is pants too. Always seems to find the keeper.

Lowe and his board kept us in the Premiership when many other clubs would have gone down. Not easy to compete when your home crowds are limited to 15k. Cortese has the luxury of money to fall back on that was there when he started. As we saw from those following Lowe, getting investment was not easy. You have to wonder how Cortese would fair without the Swiss money he came in with.

Not a Cortese fan but he did well to get us where we are in double quick time. Sadly his poor choices in sacking Adkins when he did and his poor signings and lack of investment in the team in the transfer window could see us back in the Championship next season.

Surely it takes longer than a few weeks to learn English?
-
I have lots of sympathy with this and yesterdays result will live in the top 3 worst Saints results for me. I am still trying to work out why Cortese thought this was a good idea.
-
I still remember someone on here saying that Cortese had not make a mistake yet. He made a huge mistake in sacking Adkins when he did.
-
Quire bizarre. By the way it is rapist and if the evidence wasn't string what diffence does that make? I might but Coldpay (not cold play) albums and watch the X Factor but at least I can use the English language.

So not true then???

I was there behind the goal he scored in. If George Best had scored that we would see it on the telly every week. Awesome night. Awesome goal.

Saint Or Sinner Nicola Cortese Drives Southampton On
sadoldgit replied to Graffito's topic in The Saints
If he brought MP in to keep us up and we go down it most certainly does mean he made the wrong decision. -
MLT has clearly got some issues with Cortese and could certainly have handled things better. HOwever, none of us (well most of us) dont know what his issues are and perhaps if we did we would have a different view. Cortese does not handle things particularly well. Will we ever really know why he sacked Pardew? Probably not from his lips. His treatment of Adkins was appalling. He is now acting like a child in his handling of the MLT business. Giving him a meeting in a months time (is he really THAT busy?) and in London at that was clearly designed to put Matt in his place and show that NC is the Alpha male. Now by pulling the plug on the meeting he is just making things even worse. He could have come out and said that he wasn't happy about Matt's utterings but was still happy to meet him and try and resolve their differences. To suggest that Frannie B does not have the club to heart is ridiculous. Is Frannie sueing SFC or Cortese? My understanding is that his issue is with Cortese not the club. This episode has just taken a huge lurch backwards and it is sad to see so many people having a pop at Matt when he clearly feels that he has issues that Cortese should answer. There have been many downs in our history - one of the biggest was when Markus passed away and left this unpleasant character loose on our beloved club.

I am more worried about not being able to play consistently over 90 mins. We seem to put in a decent shift for 45 mins but can't keep it up for the whole game.

Not everytime actually DD but it does amaze me that things that Lowe did got ripped to shreds every day on here yet Coreste does similar, if not worse things and lots of people queue up to defend him??? Its a bit like Chelsea fans. They boo Rafa but are afraid to take their anger out on Abramovich - probably because they are afraid that he will walk and take his money with him. RB was employed by Abramovitch, he did force his way into the club. I think some people here are scared of Cortese and what would happen if he left the club. By the way, only 6 games to go before we can start to criticise our new manager (according to your 9 game rule) so it will be interesting to see what you post if things do not improve

You are confusing the ABC (sales) figures with the National Readership figures FC. The Sun's ABC (sales ) are around 2.5 million. The readership figures (NRS) are published at around 7m. 2.560,000 of those are ABC1 and 4,524,000 are C2DE. To put that into context The Guardain has something like 1,062,000 readers of which 950,000 are ABC1 and only 112,000 are C2DE. I go back to my original point - you are deemed to have "read" a paper even if you have only looked at Page 3 or looked at the front page on a newstand so any readership figure, especially for a redtop, is not going to be accurate. The Sun's sales have dropped by over 1m copies a day in the last few years. Its "power" is waning as more and more people see it, and Murdoch, for what they are.
-
4 weeks? It is all about who has the power and NC is putting MLT in his place. If Lowe had done this there would have been an uproar about how disrespectful it is.
-
I worked in newspaper Circualtion Departments for 30 years an for 6 of those years I was National Sales Manager at one of the broadsheets. The readerships figures mean nothing and are there to attract advertsing. If you have seen a newspaper front page (which many ofus do in newsagents, cafes etc) you are classed as having "read" the paper. Newspaper cicualtion and readership is dying rapidly as more and more people get their news through the internet. Newspapers see this as their way forward rather than through newspapers and the broadsheet I used to work for has been laying off people from its Circulation Dept for the last few years. You can take that 7 million with a pinch of salt along with the so called "power" that certain newspapers like to think they still have.

Davenport was the worst of the lot. One of the poorest players I have ever seen play for us. LOwe was geting lots of flak for interfering with transfers and probably bought into Arrys myth that he is the best wheeler and dealer there is. Well he dealt us into relegation.
-
Someone is demed to have "read" the paper even if they just look at part of it and I am sure many people look at Page 3 and ignore the rest. There is a huge difference between ABC figures and readership figures. ABC figures are sales figures. As for Corteses "grovelling" to your Mike. Really? Do you really think that someone like Cortese would grovel? Or eat humble pie? The reason why most enlightened people think The Sun is rubbish is precisely because of things like this. Why print the truth when you can make it up. I know The Sun makes things up through personal experience. The phone hacking debacle tells you all you need to know about that paper and the people who work for it. If thats me being a snob so be it. Oh and it is ate big humble pie by the way.

Clearly there are no deserving causes in this country that would benefit then? What a crock... Just more self publicity by one of the most overated players in the modern game.
