I think they said they monitor up and coming managers but not that they are necessarily are going to employ one this time?
-
This wont please those who believe that he Board are rubbish, that KL wants to sell up and that we are a club in freefall
-
If you just base people on what they hav recently achieved then Pochettino definately had a better season than Adkins. Pochettino inherited an excellent squad but I would question that his spent wisely in the transfer market. If Adkins had stayed I think we would have kept the scoringrate up but tightened up at the back. With the basic team and his own sigings I think he could have finished 8th or higher. Would Pochettno have got Reading up? Who knows. Different circumstances and we can only guess. I hope that Adkins gets another crack at the Premiership soon. It wasnt that long ago he was being touted as an England manager in waiting.

Differen, yes. Better? Hmmm, lets see how it works for him at Spurs.

There is so much to take issue with here - not least the fair wather supporter attitude. Lets start with the misery years under Lowe. 10 years of top flight football with crowds of 15k. Matt Le Tiss. A cup final. European football. Yep, that all sucked. How do you know we were ever interested in Bruce or McLaren? All I have seen is a statement saying we are not interested in McLaren. Whatever you think of Les Reed he has been here whilst we have rebuilt and grown. Dithering about selling our best players? Apart for Lambert(no dithering there) we have said no one will be sold until the new manager makes a call. How is that dithering? How much did Lallana cost us? We will make a massive profit on any possible sale. Small town mentality? Eurpean football is small town? You sound like someone paid to back up Cortese's legend building machine mate.

Pochettino has failed elsewhere. Other managers havent done so well initially when they have moved on. Adkins did a brilliant job for us over a perio of time. Pochettion won nothing with us and passed up a brilliant opportunity to progress in the FA Cup. One minute you slag off people then you pledge your undying loyalty (Adkins, Coretse) or vice versa. It will be interesting to see how you rise your opinon of Pochettino if he fails at Spurs. Adkins is a decent manager.

Sorry FC but how do you know that no players wanted to leave last season? Transer talk in and out was almost non existant under Cortese. We are hearing now that Poch had his favourites so I wouldnt be surprised if some of the fringe players were happy. Ramirez was rumoured to be on his way a few times.

Good to see the club fighting back at last but this wont please those who want to believe that the club is in free fall. Interesting that we are now learning that the close knit bunch of players werent so close afterall and that it seems there was a clique of favourites. Golden boy Lallana is possibly not the model Saints pro we all thought him to be. The current Saints board seem a pretty decent bunch of people and it is interesting that they seem to have little time for ship-jumpers and those not wedded to SFC. Frankly if Lallana and Shaw (both being tauted as level headed model pros) want to leave then, if the price is right lets get rid of them and bring in players who want to be here. If Pochettino led the Board to believe he was staying (and there was plenty of speculation suggesting that he was) I can see why they feel badly let down. Maybe it is time to back the Board and stop all of the negativity. To me they are making the right noises and look to be coming out of the media fire storm in better shape. Only time will tell of course but I see no reason not to trust them.

Ron Davies certainly. Keegan yes for the fact that he is the only European Footballer of the Year to play for Saints. Adam Lallana no thanks. Rickie represents the current era better than any other.
-
The Board werent the ones leaking info to Blackmore were they? AL said earlier that he was concentrating on the WC first and foremost and then, once Rickie gets his move, the dummy gets spat out. Posters on here are more than happy to believe all sorts of spurious nonsense if it fits their agenda. The club release some info and it doesn't fit in with what they want to believe so teh Club have their own agenda. Of course they do. They have come under a lot of flak (some of the things said about Katherine have been disgraceful) so who can blame them for trying to redress the balance.
-
Just a thought. I suppose Adam, like everyone else, has an agent? If so isnt it his job to speak to the club and his client regarding possible moves and not Adams?
-
As I said before, very different circumstances as you well know. You must be gutted that Lallana and Shaw havent left yet.
-
Unbelievable thread. Here's a thought. Why dont we wait and see who goes and who comes in before we slit our wrists? No one here seems remotely bothered that Cortese was in the process of offloading Rickie to West Ham in January or that he abandoned his "baby" just because the owner had the termerity to ask for more regs. Happy days.
-
New name but same old rubbish eh Delldays?
-
Adam is under contract so if we dont want to sell he is staying put. If he has a good WC his value can only go up so we are in the driving seat.
-
Every player has his price. I would like to see the board say if anyone wants him we are looking for £30m as we dont wont to sell and dont have to sell. Hopefully that will keep the vultures away but if it doesnt, we have a more than decent price for him. If they buckle just because liverpool are playing hardball that would be disgraceful and we would lose all credibility. Frankly I just wish they would say we are closed until after the WC so dont even bother putting in bids for players!
-
A few weeks ago we were a model club, one of the best run in the Premiership. Everyone was being praised for playing their part. Now we are lead to believe that many of the staff are inept and we are in mealtdown. How then, did we manage to get to 8th in one of the toughest competitions in football and were the envy of many other clubs? Or did I dream that?
-
Different circumstances entirely. Pochettino was only here for a short time and it in the early stages of his career in management. Ricky has helped us climb through the divsions and is at the end of his career.
-
Still cant get my head around this apart from the fact that it seems that Cortese was apparenntly in the process of selling him to West Ham before he left. Pleased for Ricky but really hoped he would end his career with us. A true legend and it will be very hard to replace him. I was looking forward to watching the World Cup with three Saints in the England set up - it looks less and less likely now. I was prepared to give Freddy Krueger the benefit of the doubt after his press release but if players are sold before the new manager comes in where does that leave his credibility? Gutted.
-
LOL. This just has to be a wind up!

It is widely reported that MP was offered a new contract and in some papers they talked about his terms and money being made available for new players. I wouldnt say that was not doing anything. He had a year of his contract to run so they didnt HAVE to offer him anything, but they did, apparently offer him a new contract. If he chose not to accept it that is a completely different matter I would say.
-
If he had so much passion for the club why did he leave? By all accounts the new offer was a good one.

CORTESE - a personal and factual view of why Ms Liebherr was right.
sadoldgit replied to Fitzhugh Fella's topic in The Saints
If Cortese was such a genius why didnt he tie Pochettino down to a longer contract? He no doubt still would have walked but we might have got more than a measly £2m out of it. -
After last season it would have been good to see if we could push on but this isnt the 70s and it is all about "projects" and Champions League football sadly. It is a job. Cortese jumped ship and the manager looks like he is doing likewise. I am more worried about our better players going but if that is limited to Shaw and Lallana and the new manager can bring in decent replacements there is no reason why we cant have a decent season next season too. Pochettino was good but is stll unproven at a higher level and his transfer activity wasn't brilliant. He will need to develop other ways of playing than just a high pressing game at Spurs and it will not be easy for him there. Onwards and upwards - keep the faith!
