  1. They should face criminal charges for neglect and I find it chilling tht some people on here have done the same, or at least condone it. Parents have a duty of care towards their children nd the McCann's failed in their big time. Still, I guess a night out with their mates was more important than their kids safety.
  2. Agreed. Such a shame that he couldn't be there to witness the scenes yesterday and enjoy seeing his dream realised. Thanks should also go to Alan Pardew who laid the foundations of the transformation of the club and brought in some quality players. To Adam Lallana for staying with the club and to Kelvin Davies who too could have jumped ship when West Ham came knocking and has been a rock.To Sam Alladyce without whom West Ham would surely have gone up automatically. And to everyone at Southampton Football Club who have worked so hard to achieve this memorable back to back promotions and who have brought a smile back to the faces of the fans who had had to endure such tough times a few years back.Lastly a thought for the wrist slitters on here, I am so glad you were all wrong!!!
  3. Why should it be okay to be able to abuse your fellow Saints fans once a season just because some results don't go our way? We all support the same team don't we? It says that abusive behaviour isn't tolerated here yet you, dear Alpine, have spent the whole bloody season abusing your fellow fans and you are still here asking if you can do it with the Mods blessing now! Priceless. Whatever happens on Saturday we have had an amsing season. WE will end up where we end up based on the whole season's results so little matter if we have been in the top two for most of it. There is no such things as guaranteed promotion. Those of you who wouldn't have it under Burley should look at WHU. With their resources they should have been home and dry long ago but they are in the same boat as us. We have two chances of going up. We can beat Coventry or we can win the play offs. This time last season who would not have settled for that? Yet we have a manic depression start a thread to say that he wants dispensation for slagging off his fellow fans if things go wrong in a couple of fottball matches? Jeez.
  4. You gus! You talk about wet fannies as though that is a bad thing! You could pretty much write the script for this forum after the fianl whistle and the usual suspects have not disappointed. We hve done incredibly well this season but REading have been more consistant since bfore Christams so fair play to them. We lost our way recently against Blackpool, Portsmouth, Reading and Middlesbrough where you would think a top 2 team would not have done and the simple fcat is that we do have weaknesses in our game and they do get exploited. TDD tells us that we are better suited than Reading if we go up. I don't agree. BOth teams will needs to strengthen and adapt their tactics if they aren't to come straight back down. It is no sectret that I am no Cortese fan and would rather have Pardew here still. But Adksins has done a terrific job in the last couple of seasons and Cortese is on course to complete his plan ahead of schedule, so what is there not to be happy about? Yep, it would have been great if we had finished the job yesterday, but we didn't. That is so often the case with us andwe will be looking at other results from behind the sofa not for the first time. At the end of the day it is just a game of football, not a matter of life and death. We have certainly exceeded my expectations this season and no matter what happens next week I don't see this season as a let down. We will end up. with all the other teams, where we deserve to over the season as a whole. Second would be amazing but third would be no shame.
  5. It is very easy to pick individual cases and say that a whole organisation is useless, it is also rubbish. People have to make judgement calls because other people lie, or make mistakes, or forget things. The defence will often let a case go to trial in the hope that witness don't turn up and the defendant gets off. They would save everyone a whole lot of time and money if they persuaded the defendent to plead at an earlier stage when they are clearly guilty. Thought about that? Perhaps some moral outrage should be aimed at that - or the firms who bend the rules to get motorists off charges when they are clearly guilty. If prosecuting people and getting guilty verdicts on the guilty was easy the crime rate would be halved overnight. However, people know how hard it is to get a conviction either in fron t of a Magistrates bench or in front of a jury so many will take that chance. Perhaps, again, you should aim your barbs at the guilty who waste you and my money on taking that chance! As for a policeman saying that Barnard was innocent. Despite what you might believe from the Law and Order programme (which is total nonsense by the way) it is the police who provide the CPS with the evidence i.e. witness statements and exhibits. If the evidence did not point towards Barnard he would not have been charged. The very same evidence that the police provided. Once upon a time the jury were asked to provide a verdict on the basis it was beyond "reasonable doubt." Now they are told that they must be "sure" of the guilt. A very different direction. Barnard was given a fair trial and found innocent but he was tried because there was enough evidence (provided by the police) to take the trial to court. Persoannly I feel sorry for the poor guy who was viciously assualted by a drunk criminal. As for Saunders, the CCPs very very rarely make prosection decsions themselves. They are just the figureheads and she would have been speaking for the Reviewing Lawyer and the District Crown Prosecutor and Senior District Crown Prosecutor who bring these charges (often in consulation with very experience counsel form the Bar who actually prosecute our cases in court. As I say, it is very easy to get on your high horse and make ill informed judgements and that is excatly what you get on internet forums. Just give some thought to those people who make money out of getting guilty people off.
  6. That doesn't mean they are useless. There are a number of reasons that cases get dropped at the last minute. Sometimes key witnesses do not turn up or retract their evidence. There are thousands of successful prosecutions every day, but hey, let's just label the CPS as useless because not all cases go ahead.
  7. I should add that the reviewing lawyer will consider a) is there enough evidence to convict and b) is it in the public interest to prosecute. There are no guarantees in any case of a guilty verdict no matter how srtong the CPS may feel the evidence is. The defence do what they can to discredit the evidence and it is down to a jury to decide. The CPS has a budget and does not prosecute for the sake of it. Barney has been found innocent so good luck to him. That doesn't mean that the decision to prosecute was the wrong one. It is very difficult to get a guilty verdict in a rape case and we spend shedloads of money to bring them to court non the less because, if we believe that there is a case to answer, it is only right and proper that the evidence is put before a jury.
  8. The CPS would not have prosecuted if they felt the evidence was too weak for a conviction. These things go through extensive processes so as not to waste the public money. If the jury were not convinced of his guilt, so be it, it does not mean that the prosecution decision was not correct. That is why we have a defence system, to put the other side of the story.
  9. Twice, Reading do it constantly away from home and with real purpose. And we didn't soak up the pressure against Leeds, they battered us as did Blackpool.
  10. I didn't see Lee as an out and out striker but I agree he could well have made a difference if he hadn't got injured. But where is the depth in the squad? We have dropped points this season because we have badly missed Lambert and Chaplow. Reading were not lucky last night. They do what teams that win Championships need to do. We can't or rraely do what they did which is soak up lots of pressure and hit teams on the counter.
  11. We knew we needed another decent stricker and midfiler in the January window and if we had got both we would have gone us as champs I am sure. For all of his huff and puff Sharp is no Maynard as as for the fella from Spurs, is he seeling programmes now? Reading are better than us not just because of last night but because of their form in the second half of the season. They brought a match winner off the bench and we brought on Guly! Defensively we are not good enough and all too often our play in the final third is not incisive enough. Still, I am not going to complain at being second best this season.
  12. If the game had not been stopped at that point it would have played out completly differently. Norris would not have had that chance.
  13. I can see why some peope are getting worried. Reading a very strong at the moment and WHU have strength in depth. We have been riding our luck for a while now. Lucky 3 points at Leeds and two late penalties at Millwall but we were dreadfull against Blackpool and if we have to face Blackpool or Leeds in the play offs it will be very tough.Whilst it is in our hands at the moment I do think a lot rides on the WHU results as to us going up automictally or not right now. A great shame after such a long season most of which we have ben leaders, but the fcat is that teams have worked us out and we don't have that many options in our draw now that Lallana and Guly's goals have dried up. We are also weak at the back when teams go at us as Blackpool proved. Overall it has been an awesome season but, hand on heart, the second half not as convicing as the first.
  14. If those lost points cost us automatic promotion I hope all of you defending these idiots have a good look at yourselves. It is always hard to drop points in 4 minutesof added time, even more so if it is your own moronic fans who caused the extra time in the firts place. Go nuts yes, but stay off the frikkin pitch!!!
  15. The pitch was the same for both sides. The first ball was out of shape but that was soon changed. We lost because we were out thought by the manager and outplayed on the pitch. We struggle against pace on the wings andHolloway knows that. The team were poor but I am particulalry worried by Sharp. He is either unfit ot not good enough for this level.
  16. Rupert Lowe will never come back for a second term........
  17. Considering the grief that Kelvin had to take when he first signd I think he has done brilliantly for the club to stick with us to to turn a large part of the fan base around. His performace againt Leeds was awesome and whilst he is not the complete goalkeeper, he is easily for me our third best after Shilts and Niemi - perhaps alongside Flowers. Being a legend is about doing it year after year. Sadly Keegan's 2nd year was spent mostly in the treatment room so we only really got one good season out of him. If we go up again Davies will have played a huge part in that process - legend or not.
  18. 58 Born Kings College Hospital Lived in south London until 10 then moved to West Wickham nr Bromley. Now live in the shadow of Leeds Castle. First match 1966 at Selhurst Park (nearest team to me were Palarse). Lost 1-0. Big Chiv sent off. First home match 1-0 v Charlton 1966. I think Chiv pulled the ball back for Paine to score (or vice versa). Went with a mate who supported Saints, got the bug and that was it. Claim to fame - jumped over the wall at Orient just before it collapsed and walked off the pitch with the players. LIke that could happen now!
  19. Even though he had £6m to spend in keeping us up and brought in rubbish? Redknapp said himself he didn't know why he was at saints and clearly wasn;t bothered about us - his thumbs up to Mandaric proved that after the Poopey drubbing. You have to admire the man's brass neck though for having a pop at the CPS. Cases are only brought to court if they are in the public interesr to do so and there is a realistic chance of a conviction. It was not brought because of he he is as he says (no ego there then). The CPS are accountable for spending public money and have to justify their decsions to prosecute. Sadly the jury system in this country means that many people walk free when they shouldn't. Whether he was guilty of not I don't know, but to pretend that you don't know what you are doing when you live in a mutli million pound house is just laughable. He did a number of the jury and they fell for it. Still back to Alps, nice to see that your hatred for Lowe has been "revised" over the years either.
  20. I seem to remember that top goal scorer Kevin Phillips sitting on the bench. The thumbs up to Mandaric after Poopey humilated us said it all for me.
  21. I am not even sure that he is worth his place in the team on ability any more.
  22. It has nothing to do with innocent until proven guilty - same as with the Dave Jones case. He has simply been stood down pending the decison as happens everywhere. Capello is just making matters worse and is proving that he doesn't have thecalibre to be England manager, not that that needs any more proof. John Terry is not the only man who could Captain England an many would argue that Gerrard is a better choice anyway. This is a bigger issue and Capello needs to recognise that and keep his mouth shut. Shouldnt be too hard for £6m a year.
  23. I am not a racist but if I call someone at work an effin bl*ck b*stard I would expect to be suspended immediately and would eventually lose my job. Why should Terry be any different? If the man had any moral fibre he would have stood down as Captain as soon as charged. Now we have Talkpsort suggesting that other idiot Ashley Cole should be the next England captain. Bobby Moore must be turning in his grave.
  24. We had a manager who was given "garden leave" because of claims made against him. He was innocent until proved guilty and was actually found to be innocent in the end. It was felt that the court case would mean that he couldn't focus properly on his job. Is that the same with Terry?
  25. Thought that said An*l at first!
