  2. Oh for the days when we used to stuff chidren up chimneys! The Empire (which has cost us dear over the years since the sun set on it for the last time) was built by expoliting the proles of this country. They quit rightly got hacked off and after a period when the workforce wanted a greater share of the fruits of the labour the arch right winger decided that we wouldn't actually bother with producing things any more (coal, cars etc) so we can do away with nasty strikes and we shall just become a country that provides a service. Now the growing (or stronger) economies are the ones that produce things for others to buy and the once mighty Great Britain is left at the mercies of the dollar. Some would argue that we have the right wingers to thank for that. Still, who knows, one day we might be mighty again, it is just that the uniforms worn or now McDonalds and KFC and not redcoats.
  3. Wouldn't that make us second????
  4. To be honest we have been fortunate in that whilst we have stuttered teams ahead have not pulled away. He will need to find more consistency this half of the season but we are in the frame and that is the crucial thing. It will be interesting to see who he brings in. I hope you are right about good times ahead but there is still a lot of football to be played and we need to do better for the rest of the season.
  5. LOL awesome!!!
  6. Saw him play against Cardiff for us and he was terrific in the 2nd half after taking some appalling stick in the first. The facrt that he is still in the Prem says all you need to know.
  7. Excellent result. Hopefully we can push on and keep this going now. Pleased for Lambert.
  8. So don't read my posts then, it really isn't that hard you know. My point is that I find it hard to believe that players would go staright from doing nothing to full on training with no warm up prep whatsoever. Pardew and his team are not stupid. I also don't believe that Pardew went out of his way to sabotage our season knowing that he would be off soon. Players lose form, they also pick up injuries. Nice to know how intensive the training was when at the time the anti Pardew brigade were telling us the opposite was true. Still, at least the spin has moved on from sh*gging players wives etc.
  9. How do you know what the training programme was?
  10. Give it a rest. It is okay for you to blame people but not others. I suppose Pardew went out of his way to sabotage our season did he? It will be interesting to read your posts if we don't go up this season. No doubt NC will come out unscathed. The bit you don't get is that no one on here knows exactly what happened and what didn't happen. Not so long ago it was all about Pardew sh*gging players wives or punching players. Then it was he didn't train them hard enough. Now it is he trained them too hard. Go figure. People like you still take rumour as gospel to suit your agendas. He is having the last laugh though as we struggle in Div 3 and he is back in the Prem.
  11. As you were seemingly "in" on what went on pre season then DD feel free to enlighten me as to exactly what happened? If this training regime was so awful how come the whole squad didn't go down with injuries? And why were we led to believe that they weren't worked hard enough intially?
  12. Eh? Where do you get a conspiracy from? IT seems odd that a professional athlete, along with others, is fit but not fit enough to train hard. STrachan didn't seem to have a problem putting the players through their paces. But you might be right...perhaps it is a conspiracy? Afterall, we were intillat told the players weren't trained hard enough and now it seems they were trained too hard? As for doing too much too soon, surely if you are in good condition it must be hard to do too much too soon?
  13. So he was very fit, but not fit enough to train hard??? Hmmm...
  14. Indeed Ottery, Adkins will need to find away to get points on the board week in week out. Let's hope he can do it this season!! All the best to you too.
  15. There was as much chance of Fergusan managing here as O'Neil. These people are top managers and want to manage big teams. O'Neil has nothing to prove to anyone and why would he drop to the 3rd Divison when he can get a top job anywhere?
  16. Lambert himself said he was in the best shape at the start of the season. Then were hear ther players were worked too hard, then not hard enough... The problems between Cortese and Pardew started well before the end of last season. All of the sniping about putting the effort into the league and not the cups etc. NOn of us knows for sure but it did look very much like Pardew was on his way out earlier and I suspect it was the support Pardew got elsewhere that kept him here a bit longer. Once Markuswas out of the way though Cortese had a clear road to do exactly what he wants, and that is what he is doing. We were promised a "wow factor" name and got Adkins (with all due respect hardly a "wow"). We have yet to build on last's season's squad and I am sure that many of us expected to see a few more class players arrive. Whatever has happened to Lambert, Pardew ceratinly got the best out of him last season. Something the new manager has failed to do so far. To be fair to Cortese, he has only had one full season in this role and is obvioulsy relying heavily on Les Reed. Surround yoursef with good people and you give yourself a fighting chance of success. Perhaps Cortese needs to find a new adviser?
  17. But Pardew did that and still found himself out of the door. It all depends on the Chairman. If he is prepared to stand back and let the manager manage, and the results are good, no problem. When the Cahirman/CEO thinks he knows more about football than the manager and wanst to get involved, then you have a recipe for trouble. We have had a few of the latter in recent times sadly.
  18. Have you ever had to manage on a budget? Did you notice that we didn't spend much on players either but we still managed to get some quality in. These people have to start somewhere and as they were known by the club they would have known if they were any good or not. I think the plan was to get in a coach and have a DOF come in and do the other work. Both Wigely and Gray were/are good coaches. THey might not have been the best decsions but when you are working to a tight budget they are the kind of decsions that get made. If it meant we could pay a little more on players/wages the decisions also don't look quit so bad. And in hindsight I would say the decision to emply Redknapp was far worse than the previous poor decisions.
  19. Or they might just come to the conclusion that the CEO didn't like him, wanted someone who was more, erm, compliant to his wishes, and sacked him?
  20. THis is yet to be as cold as the winetr of 62/63 and back then the winters were colder than of late. Up to recently the winters have been much milder. The term Global warming seems to make people think that they won't get cold winters. In fact what it does is change the climate so that parts of the planet will actually have periods o worse weather. Some people don't believe that Man have influenced weather (which to be fair does change over time) but there is plenty of evidence to show that Man has accelerated change in weather patterns by over use of fossil fuels, farming (methane from large cattle stocks) etc. Very simplistic response but don't take the phrase literally. The planet is warming up in general causing shifts to weather patterns. I should add that I have been on ths planet for the best part of 6 decades. When I was younger we had definate seasons, now we just seem to have weather, if that makes sense?
  21. As a third division club, and even a CCC club, if a bigger club wants our players they will probably get them. Big fish eat little fish.

Big time! Many years on and she is still giving me grief through being difficult with my contact with the kids. Her way or no way. David Beckham has OCD too. Just thought I would throw that in!

I don't suffer with it myself but did through my ex wife. She also has a Narcissitic Personality Disorder on top of that which made the whole thing a living nightmare. SHe no longer has to wash her hands hundreds of times a day, but is still a complete control freak.
  25. No Nick, Plan B is when you get a new manager when you have just had a thumping win away from home : )
