  1. Scrapped? We we easily a top 6 side that season and but for a coupe of stupid mistakes by players would have made the play off final. Look at Huddersfield this season. Don't you think their fans are wondering how on earth they didn't go up. Look at Chelsea every year wondering why they they have yet to win the Eurpean Champuons league. Does it mean their managers have all been crap? Yes Burley could have done better. But if you want to go down that road perhaps Adkins should have finish top with the resouces at his disposal and the almight Harry Redknapp should have kept us up. Things don't always work out in football. It doesn't mean that the manager in question was "crap" though. He had a decent points per game ration for us. If he had been crap that wouldn't be so but you have got in in for him, just as you had it in for Pardew. Still, it is all about opinions.
  2. He is playing in the Premiership so I guess that makes him a Premiership clas striker. You think Burely was crap. I don't. We are never going to agree on that one are we? He managed to get us into the paly offs - something that Redknapp didn't show any sign of doing before he bailed.
  3. Huddersfield were also good enough to go straight up but they didn't. At least he got us winning football matches again. Skacel might have had one good season at Hearts but many players would love to have a season like that. He wasn't poor for us but granted didn't deliver. Was that Burley's fault. As for Jones, do you know that for a fact or is it just because he decided that Burely was rubbish?
  4. Most of them will not want to be caught so will run. Obvioulsy if cornered or caught some may fight back. There are (mercifully) very few incidents of death or GBH through break in incidents. Part of the problem happens when the householder wants to dish out a hiding to the person who has broekn in. If I fight or struggle ensures then the other person is probably going to defend themselves and then who knows what might happen? The police advice is to call them immediately but not to get involved. If the person or people who have broken in are aggressive then of course you would need to deal with the situation differently but you would need to show that you used reasonable force to defend yourself.
  5. I don't know the facts in this case, I am talking generally. The police will be building a file and will present that file to the CPS. Because it is a fatality the case will go to a senior lawyer to decide if charges are to be brought, and what those charges will be. Each case is dealt with on its own merits. The law is stacked in favour of the person who does not commit a crime. Obviously consideration is given to the circumstances but if someone breaks in and is then attackd then potentially 2 crimes have been committed. This is because we have a police force and it is their job to protect us. Yes I agree, you are never sure how you will react. Trouble is form some of the responses on here some people cant wait to chase a burgler with a knife! I sleep with a baseball bat under my bed. It makes me feel a little better but I think I would swing it around and shout in the hope the bloke did a runner. I witnessed a smash and grab raid in broad daylight last year. The guys wore white boiler suits and were hammering a jewellers shop windown with sledge hammers. People we just standing around watching so after shouting for someone to do something I ended up chasing them down the road! Idiot. My partner went ballistic at me later saying you don't know what they would have done if you had caught one of them and she was right. They were caught (stopped at a red light bless them) and charged and are now doing time. I think in future I will just note down details and leave it to the boys in blue. What is really sad is the the current government cuts are making our homes less safe and I wonder if we are going to see more of this?
  6. He still got us into the pay offs so hardly a flop. Also before Pardew and Adkins came along he had the best win ratio of any manager since the war. Bit harsh to say that Branfoot was better. Skacel didn't do for us what he did for Herts but was a good player. Wright Phillips seems to have scored loads of goals this season. I would say his worst was Wright but even he was better than Benali. Euell had been a decent player in the past. Burley turned Jones into a Premiership class striker.
  7. U2 are probably The Last Great Rock Band but Coldplay have moved the bar and music has moved on. I have seen them twice and they just don't go through the motions and pose (Bono). They really do give it their all as showed last night. Most of the new stuff sounded good too. How many band would finish their encore with a brand new song?
  8. In your opinion but not in the opinion of the law. The vast majoirty of burlaries are carried out with no harm coming to anyone other then the loss of property. As has been said earlier, most of the people would crap themselves and run away if disturbed. They aren't breaking in to kill you or you family. They are breaking in to steal. We do not have capital punishment in this country and vertainly not for burglary. Nothing gives you the right to take the law into your own hands. You can use reasonable force to defend yourself but that would not include sticking a knife into somone depedant on the circumstances. Tell me, someone lifts your wallet from your pocket in the street (ie steals from you). Do you think that gives you the right to kill them? Of course burglary is wrong but as much as you might not like it, it is not punishable by death. Personally I am happy to live in a country civilised enough to pratice laws commesurate with the crimes. What is utter utter bullsh*t is the macho stance that says you break into my home and you are dead. Utterly ridiculous. The 90% of people you talk about (have you actually asked that many people?) would not stick a knife in someone first and worry about it later otherwise the death tool would be enormous.
  9. While we are on the subject. Kenneth Noye got away with stabbing a police officer to death who was staking out his house. His defence was he acted in self defence. So all of you guys itching to stick a knife into someone, you might actually get away with it.
  10. Ok, for all of those who think it is okay to take the life of the person who breaks into your house - You have an 18 year old son who is out of work. He breaks into a house because he wants money for booze, drugs, whatever. The householder comes downstairs and catches him in the act. He sticks a knife in him and your son dies. You are cool with that, yes?
  11. The mutt's nuts. Also enjoyed U2 yesterday but grown men should not wear sunglasses at night.
  12. What a load of cock. I "dragged" my kids to see the Bootleg Beatles when they we young and they loved every minure of it. Show me where it says only adults are allowed to enjoy live music.
  13. You didn't kill him though did you? There is a world of difference between fronting someone up (and you are right, most of these people are scared stiff of being found and will run unless cornered) and killing them.
  14. No I don't but one man is dead and another isnt. The person who isn't could well face charges.
  15. Charlie George was one I bet Lawrie would rather forget.
  16. Burglers burgle. They don't, in most cases, set out to or actually rape somebody.
  17. Yes he had choices, so did the guy who stabbed him. And that will be his problem in court.
  18. Can't believe that we didn't use him as effectively as Stoke. D'oh.
  19. You can argue the point all you like. The issue is still that taking a life is a more serious offence than breaking and entering. The police always advise to avoid conflict and call them. I don't think I have ever heard any one from the Criminal Justice System advise that you take a knife to an intruder.
  20. Looks like Danns in on his way to Rangers.
  21. Agree about Alan McLoughlin. Cost us £1m when that was a lot of cash. Was really excited about him but he was gash. Anders Svensson was a good player playd out of position. He was awesome when we turnes Spuds over. Delgado was also a decent player, you don't pick up many decent goal scoring internationals for £3m. Shame he just didn't work out for us.
  22. Becaue I work for the the Crown Prosecution Service. Do you really think you can stick a knife into someone, take their life and get away scot free without a very, very good reason?
  23. And if it is you what purpose does that serve? If they threaten to kill you and it is you or them that is one issue. If they are just threatening and want to take your goodies, why leave your kids fatherless?
  24. You shouldn't go breaking into peoples houses but it is a matter of degree. It is worse to stick a knife into someone. Even the courts can't take someone's life, so how do you think you will fare in court if you take the law into your own hands? It might seem unfair but whichever way you look at it, killing someone still ranks higher than breaking and entering.
