  1. Dont recall us saying we wouldnt sell. Only that if we did it would be on our terms which is what has seemed to be the case.
  2. We are victims of our own success but surely it is better to be where we are with top clubs wanting our players than where we were a few years ago with no one wanting our players? We do exactly the same and are looking to see who we can poach from other clubs. If we cant keep these players at least we are generating an income for the club from them that will help us compete in the Premiership.
  3. Heard someone on TalkSport today say that Sturridge had done well. If he had we will be in the next round. If he doesnt improve at this level you have to wonder where the next prolific striker is going to come from. We are also light in the centre half dept. This is the first competition where we have fallen between two stools. As another poster said earlier, it came a lot too early for some and a little too late for others. Hodgson has a lot of work to do but we need to start by making sure we have our best young players playing in competitions as Stuart Pearce has been banging on about for months. It is no good doing the business in qualifying and then blowing it when it comes down to the serious stuff.
  4. Liverpool have made an enquiry but apparently there is a sticking point about possible add ons. They are baulking at our wanting an extra £5k for her to provide of Victoria Sponge every afternoon on the trolley.
  5. Here you go again. You must be related to Alpine surely? Do us all a favour will you and wait until we see who comes in before you post any more of this negative nonsense.
  6. You are right for once mate. it is bedwetting. Players will go and replacements will come in. Think about this, we could end up with a better squad than we had last season. I am as gutted as anybody else that we are losing these guys but no one is bigger than the club. I have seen players like Martin Chivers, Ron Davies, Mike Channon, Steve Williams, Theo Walcott and the Ox all leave and guess what, the world still turns, the sun still rises and life goes on.
  7. Team of mercenaries? Maybe players will join us because they can see we are a progressive club and want to be a part of that? Is Lovren a mecenary? Borac?
  8. Lactating? And what is going on downstairs?
  9. Fiesale? I have read some negative drivel on this forum over the years St Charlie but you take the biscuit. You seem to look for the negative spin in everything. A firesale is what you do when you sell assets to pay off creditors. Players come. Players go. At the moment the only player to have left is Lambert. Why dont you wait and see excatly who leaves and who comes in before he start any more meltdown threads. You really need to get out more. You are in danger of becoming the Suarez of the forum - prolific but barking mad.
  10. How do you RK hasnt spoken to Shaw?
  11. Judge him on his performance against Germany in the 5-1 match or several others at that level and he has proved that he is class. He would still walk into any Premiership side. Listen to the way ex pros talk about him. I'd have him at Saints now in a heartbeat. Anyway, scenario E) We appoint a new manager. The manager comes in and assesses the squad. He and the club sit down and decide who they want to keep and who they want to let go. The manager talks to the players who want out but who he wants to keep. If he cant persuade them to stay and the club decide there is no point in playing hard ball, the club seeks to sell for the best deal going and we get in a quality replacement.
  12. You know this for a fact or is it just your opinion?
  13. So you are not happy that a new crop of players - Lallana, Barkley, Sterling, Shaw are coming through the ranks? The manager found a way to get us through? So are you saying that it is Hodgson's fault that Rooney and Sturridge missed chances? The dividing line between success and failure is so narrow. How many times did Saints dominate possession only to be hit by a sucker punch last season? Was that Pochettino's falut or down to the players for not taking their chances? You say that you enjoyed Italia 90 because we didnt play brilliantly but we lost on penalties in the semi. So for you it is just about scrapping through as far as we can? Hodgson could have played safe but to fair to him he did go for it and that is why we are out. at 1-1 in both games he could have sat back and protected what he had and we would have scrapped through. I still dont think you would hve been happy because you clearly think Hodgson is an idiot. At the moment we are clearly not good enough at this level. The team is in transition and new players are coming through. Pundits were saying bfore the WC that Hodgson should use this competion to start blooding new players for 2016 - which is what happened. There are no givens in life, especially in football. If Rooney and Sturridge had been more clinical you can imagine the clamour and expectation now but it would be exactly the same management structure and squad. SPain and Italy are also out but I am sure they did all they could in prep to go as far as they could in the competition. We dont have a Gazza or a Platt. The "Golden Generation" have been and gone. Hodgson can only work with what he has. We currently dont have a quality defence. Do you expect Saints to challeneg for honours every year? We had a good run but are now playing with the big boys and the challenges get more and more difficult. You can see from the way that the so called lesser teams have progressed that it is getting harder and harder on the bigger stage. As long as the Premiership employs as many foreign stars as it does we will struggle to produce enough quality to get to another semi finals, let alone win anything. How many competitions have Holland won? They are held up as an example of a nation that plays the game the right way but like us, they struggle to win anything. We need to temper our expectations in line with our ability to deliver.
  14. Or maybe he will be encouraged to help us move up to the next level?
  15. Costa Rica, Chile and Greece are not going to win the World Cup.
  16. We were woeful in 2010. I wouldnt say we are light years ahead now but certainly moving in the right direction. Need to sort out a decent defence and improve the finishing. We werent too bad against Italy and played well in patches against Uruguay. I agree with Roy that after the first 10 mins we had hold of the game against CR but again, failed to put our chances away. There is some good young talent coming through but where are the young Michael Owens, John Terrys and Rio Ferdinands?
  17. I am with you on this. Even by the end of the season I kept thinking of Liverpool instead of Saints. I am not from Southampton and started supporting Saints because the first match I saw was against Palace and I liked the red and white stripes better than Palace's kit (1966). I want my team to do well but I want to see them doing well in their traditional kit. Call me old fashioned but there you go.
  18. If Sturridge and Rooney had finished better we could have won all three games. I am not saying we were brilliant but we were hardly played off the park and certainly better than 2010. Realistic expectations? Many people were saying we woul struggle to get out of that group and it proved to be so. Lets face it, we were never going to win it and even semi or quarter finals looked highly unlikely. He has been in post for 2 years in which time he has lost for one reason or another quality centre backs and we dont have anyone else coming through. The likes of Barkley, Sterling and Lallana are relatively recent additions. Shaw is new. He could have kept the old guard but is bringing in youth - the pundits seemed to accept that the WC would be a time of gaining experience and that we would see more in 2016. There are other tough groups and I am not saying we would have done any better in another group - but Uruguay and Italy were favourites in our group and that was before CR showed they were no mugs. So what that there are better teams than England going home? Just goes to show that it isnt a cake walk and if the likes of Spain, Italy and Portugal struggle what do you expect of us when we are in a transitional process? There is no shame in going out early although there is clearly a huge amount of disappointment. Suarez was well up for beating Engalnd because he feels hard done by by the media. Perhaps we should get the redtops to wind up our players more? The squard were good enough o get out of the group? No they werent as it transpired. Forget tactics etc. We had the chances to win all three matcheds which were missed and the B list defence (as pointed out by most pundits before the WC) made some basic errors. If you are good enough you take your chances and you dont make schoolboy errors. The squad needs more work. As for Roy's comments - we all see things through our own filters. He has worked with these players on the training ground and he knows what was exxpeted of them. I dont know why he didnt use Lallana more for example but he is more knowlegeable about football than I am and has seen the players close up day in day out. He made some decisions and for all we know they were the right decisions and we did the best we could with what we had. With a Lineker and a Terry or a Ferdinand it could well have been very different but we dont have a world class finisher or centre half so we are where we are.
  19. As you say, you have to take whatever chance comes your way and two tap-ins wasnt good enough. We also went into the comepetion with a B List defence meaning that we had to score 2 or 3 to be sure of something from the matches.
  20. We were favourites above Uruguay and Italy??? Both are above us in the World rankings. This was a tough group and both Uruguay and Italy struggled. It wasnt Hodgson's falut that Sturridge and Rooney missed their chances. With better finishing we would have gone through.
  21. All English managers have been losers except Alf Ramsey. Do we sack a manager every time they lose? Roy (not Woy) Hodgson is presiding over a period of change and I dont think anyone thought it would be a cake walk to get out of this group. Did anyone foresee Costa Rica heading the group? Better teams are also going home at this stage. He has a lot of work to do and I am sure he knows that. Who should we have instead? Redknapp? Pochettino?
  22. We could have won all three games with some luck and better finishing. We were much better than 2010 but then this doesnt suit your agenda as you are trying to prove that Roy Hodgson is an "idiot." We were in a very difficult group and are not alone in going home early as Italy and Spain are also out and are supposed to be much better than us.
  23. If Coulson is the only one who goes down for this it is a complete joke. It takes more than one person to arrange such a high level of phone taps.
