You have exactly the same grasp of global warming as Donald Trump. (And for avoidance of doubt, that is not a good thing).

Throughout this thread, those who have an issue with Muslims and have constantly supported Netanyahu’s actions against the Palestinian people have used the Hamas position that Israel needs to be wiped off of the map as justification for the destruction of Gaza and a large percentage of its population. They managed to completely ignore the same position of a number of members of the Israeli government towards the Palestinians. This is the latest outburst from an Israeli government minister. https://www.mediaite.com/news/israeli-newspaper-calls-for-firing-of-top-netanyahu-minister-over-repeated-calls-for-genocide-of-palestinians/amp/ Netanyahu has also use the word Amalek when describing the situation with Palestinians. Perhaps those who don’t have a problem with the clear and obvious murder of innocent civilians because they are Muslim/Palestinian explain to the rest of us why it is okay to use your own religious/geopolitical dogma to do so if you stand under the Israeli flag rather than the Palestinian flag? A number of us have been saying from the start that the position of extremists on both sides, that the other should be destroyed, is both wrong and untenable. We agree that the attack of 7th October was abhorrent and have witnessed many terrorist incidents carried out by Palestinian terrorist groups over the years. To turn a blind eye to similar atrocities and aggression carried out by the Israelis shows a wilful ignorance of history that can only be based on selective bias. We have all read the posts from the Netanyahu supporters over the years making fun of the Islamic religion. Not once do you see them making fun of similar religious dogma when spouted by the likes of Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir and Smotrich. What makes Islam so risible and Judaism sacrosanct in their eyes? How can you be disgusted by what happened on 7th October but ignore the same thing when it is happening on a much larger scale to a different bunch of human beings? As ever, a laughing emoji at the bottom just displays ignorance and a basic lack of humanity. BINGO! 🙄 Would these people use laughing emojis under posts about the Holocaust?

It’s amazing how easy it is to use these distraction techniques to take attention away from things like the cost of living crisis and the state of the NHS. You expect it from the Mail, Express and Sun but it sad to see a once respected organisation like the Telegraph sinking that low too.

It is a pointless exercise as the PM never answers the questions from the LOTO anyway. It would make a pleasant change if the Speaker started to press the PM to actually give a proper answer to Starmer’s questions. Sunak won’t of course because if he did answer honestly he would look even more pathetic. Meanwhile Badenoch is making herself look a right chump, I suppose it is all a part of her leadership bid. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13370317/amp/Kemi-Badenoch-historians-exaggerate-importance-slavery-colonialism-Britain-growth-world-power.html

Kemi Badenoch goes on the radio today to tell us that this is proof that Rwanda is a “safe place.”

Still shot 4 people dead and injured 9 others and my point was imagine the outcry if the same thing happened here by armed personnel deployed by the authorities (and we have had innocent people shot dead by armed police). Meanwhile…before 7th October https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/29/idf-human-rights-violation-gaza-us-state-department

Who can blame them although I don’t think you can lay that claim to the pro Palestinian protests now (and women weren’t drafted). I wasn’t suggesting that the student protests were responsible for ending the Vietnam war but they were certainly a part of a very large pressure group. The shooting dead of 4 students by the National Guard in Ohio was a major contributing factor in turning public opinion against the war. Can you imagine our special forces shooting people dead in London on pro Palestinian marches? And yes, I was 14 at the time so it was my era. I remember very well how the protests grew both in the US and internationally the longer the war went on. Martin Luther King and Bobby Kennedy were both assassinated in 1968 and major riots kicked off in Paris, (caused in part in protest to American imperialism - and before you say they were a number of internal contributing causes in France, yes I know, which is why I said in part). There were plenty of major protests in London over the war too. Volatile times. I was responding originally to Whelks comment that student protests wouldn’t change a thing and my original point still stands, which is pressure is growing internally in the US over Biden’s support for Israel to the extent that he has already started to pressure on Netanyahu to change his approach.

More pesky antisemites? https://www.euronews.com/2024/04/29/international-criminal-court-considering-issuing-arrest-warrant-for-netanyahu

I’m sure the dozen or so detectives who are investigating these alleged crimes with great diligence will get to the bottom of whatever it is they need to get to the bottom of. It’s just a shame that the police haven’t employed the same level of focus on the murder of Stephen Lawrence. Strange priorities from the party of “law and order.”
-
I think that we all understand just how important US support for Israel is and that support is already wavering. Those of us of a certain age will remember the effect that student unrest had on the US government and the Vietnam war (for any youngsters here check out Neil Young’s Ohio). Biden is facing growing pressure to stop providing munitions to Israel. It is very naive to say that internal unrest in the US and growing support for the Palestinians will not effect how the White House deals with the situation as it progresses, especially with a presidential election looming. *** I’ll say it again, people who use laughing emojis when others discuss the systematic killing of innocent civilians of any ethic or religious backgrounds are seriously deranged.

Student unrest growing across the US. https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/apr/26/college-protests-israel-gaza https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-68901927.amp https://www.thehindu.com/news/international/why-students-are-protesting-across-us-campuses-explained/article68108928.ece/amp/ Maybe it’s time for some people to stop using their usual deflection technique of throwing out lazy antisemite accusations and actually accept that Netanyahu’s actions in Gaza and the West Bank have gone way beyond what is acceptable in response to the attack on 7th October. Unless of course, you believe that the persecution of hundreds of thousands of trapped, innocent civilians is justifiable. *** Surprise, surprise. Netanyahu is playing the antisemitism card against the US students. Sorry Bibi, you are a busted flush.

No mention of Chris Philp’s car crash performance on QT on Thursday night by the right leaning media. You can bet your mortgage had that been a Labour MP we wouldn’t hear the end of it. Huge respect to Victor Adebowale who, on the same programme and with his quiet humanity, showed Philp, Charles Moore and the current right wing rhetoric up for what it is. Talking of double standards it reminded me of the time, 7 years ago, that Dianne Abbot stumbled over some policing figures in an interview and has never been allowed to forget it. Contrast this with the car crash interview that Laura Trott (Chief Secretary of the Treasury) gave back in February when she insisted that debt was falling as a proportion of GDP when the opposite was true. She actually gave the impression that she didn’t understand the basics of her job but anything from the right leaning media? Nope, not a peep. Will people remember her even bigger gaff in 7 years time? Not likely given the lack of exposure her gaff was given over that of Abbot’s. NHS Wales…where do they get their funding from Ducky?

This is the deputy leader of the party looking to replace the Tories in this country. There are people in this country who will agree with him. https://amp.theguardian.com/politics/2024/apr/24/dont-rescue-people-who-scupper-their-channel-boats-says-reform-uk-deputy More nonsense too from someone who was CotE. Cuts of £100m a year but it is the council’s fault they ended up bankrupt 🤔 https://edge.media/pm-says-council-bankrupted-itself-amid-100-million-cuts/ Anyone out there still want to vote for these clowns?
-
A very interesting read, especially the comments from the group of people in attendance in support of the pro Palestinian march who said that they were “openly Jewish” at the event and are descendants of Holocaust survivors. I think we can assume with a level of certainty that these people are not antisemites.

It was clearly a joke based on the fact that St George wasn’t actually English. Not sure why you felt the need try and drag the Palestinians into it? Anyway, anyone see Ducky and his buddies in the crowd? https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/apr/23/police-clash-with-st-georges-day-protesters-at-rally-in-central-london Good to see Tommy and Lawrence there. It makes you proud to be English (another joke Lighthouse before you kick off again).

Apart from the fact that this plan is ridiculously expensive it is highly unlikely to prove to be a deterrent. Another five people drowned this morning trying to cross the channel (including a 7 year old girl) so if death doesn’t deter them I doubt if the 0.07% chance of being deported to Rwanda will. For a supposedly very intelligent person, Sunak is displaying an incredible lack of judgement here. The small boats are way down most ordinary people’s list of priorities when it comes to how they will choose to vote come the next election. This seems more about trying to placate the far right of his party when he really needs to be trying to persuade the electorate that he has something better to offer the country than the last 14 years of car crash politics. It’s almost as if he thinks that if he manages to get one plane off to Rwanda everything will suddenly become rosy in the Tory garden. The small boats will not stop. The economy isn’t going to magically bounce back by November. The NHS waiting lists aren’t going to vanish overnight. The industrial unrest isn’t going away anytime soon. He is toast. But he will still hang on to the Rwanda bill as it proves (in his own head) that he is a capable, serious Prime Minister who can deliver well constructed, cost effective and efficiently implemented policies. What it does do is prove that he is none of these things.
-
If St. George pitched up on our shores today there is a fair chance that he would be packed off to Rwanda with all of the other dodgy foreigners.
-
Seriously??? We have reached a new low. The only surprise is that it isn’t one of the others who got there first.

For those who understand that there is usually much more to a story than a Daily Mail headline it is worth looking at the full 14 minute video clip or reading the whole transcript between the police officer and Gideon Falter. To reduce it to being about him possibly being arrested for looking “openly Jewish” is yet another example of how the right wing media regurgitate news through their own filter and spew it out as red meat to feed their reader’s prejudices.

This sums up the Angela Rayner situation very well. https://www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/65766/no-wonder-the-tories-are-out-to-get-angela-rayner

No peaceful minority groups are fair game and I have never said that they are. You sound more like Weston everyday.

Completely ignoring the fact that there a plenty of openly Jewish people on the protest marches too and that it was the police and not the protestors who took issue with this particular openly Jewish person (who is the Chief Executive of the Campaign Against Antisemitism and just happened to be in the vicinity of the march at the time).

What is truly staggering is the way that you take the posts of the people that you have taken a dislike to and reply to things they haven’t written thinking you have made them look silly. You are the one with zero self awareness and you make yourself look silly. So let’s dissect your reply shall we? You say I have demanded more. Where in my post have I demanded more? I didn’t. You made it up. You also made up the quotation “not being enough.” I didn’t say it wasn’t enough. I said it was too little too late. If they had carried out reasonable maintenance over the last 14 years the roads would not be in such a bad condition now and require a greater level of repair. How is it selfish to want well maintained roads? I am not the only person who uses the roads in Kent and to state the obvious, better roads are better for everyone not just me. It wasn’t a random insult. The comment was made in direct response to the poster who called out another poster earlier in this thread about being happy to pay more tax for better services. The poster concerned has a long track record of having an I’m Alright Jack and stuff everyone else attitude. It’s sweet that you try and back up your like minded buddies, but more and more frequently you make Trigger from Only Fools And Horses look like Stephen Hawking during the process.

Ben Kingsley has an Indian father. His birth name is Krishna Pandit Bhanji. As I said about Nelson Mandela, there are some historical characters whose lives are shaped totally by their ethnicity. I think you would agree that Martin Luther King would be in the same bracket as Nelson Mandela. A white person playing the part of a black activist is ridiculous. A black person playing a white English Queen is just an actor playing a role. There is a big difference isn’t there? We have had decades of white actors playing the roles of black people and using make up. I am not going to get my knickers in a twist about a few black actors playing white roles and not using make up.
