You lost any moral high ground you might have thought you had when you said that all Palestinians deserved their fate because they were family members, friends and acquaintances of Hamas members. You also lose points for throwing antisemite accusations around in order to deflect from your own well documented Islamophobia. Grow up and own your own prejudices. How many more non Muslim Europeans have to be killed by the IDF before you accept that they are just as indiscriminately murderous as any Islamic terrorist group? One of the many differences between us is that I want to see the end of attacks on innocent people on both sides of the conflict whereas you clearly believe that all Palestinians are expendable. Getting back to the grown up conversation, someone on LBC just made the point that the current Israeli government are more concerned with acquiring more territory than they are in finding a peaceful settlement to this conflict. They are still taking land illegally in the West Bank and we have heard how some Israelis are already dividing up prime plots of real estate in Gaza. Seems like a reasonable judgement.

Of course he can’t, just as he can’t help falling for IDF propaganda. I doubt if we will ever get to the truth of what actually happened by whom on that day but he is happy to swallow anything they say. It is also known that is wasn’t Hamas alone who launched those attacks. There were other Islamic terrorists groups and a number of randoms who joined in. https://www.lemonde.fr/en/les-decodeurs/article/2024/04/03/40-beheaded-babies-the-itinerary-of-a-rumor-at-the-heart-of-the-information-battle-between-israel-and-hamas_6667274_8.html# https://www.declassifieduk.org/beheaded-babies-how-uk-media-reported-israels-fake-news-as-fact/ https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/10/12/middleeast/israel-hamas-beheading-claims-intl https://5pillarsuk.com/2024/03/06/united-nations-hamas-rape-report-debunked/ He is also happy to ignore the reports from the Israeli police that the IDF fired on the terrorists and the Israelis indiscriminately causing deaths with tank shells and rockets from Apache helicopters which caused bodies to be dismembered and badly burned. I would love to see a proper independent report into what happened that day and since, but given the Israeli reluctance to let any independent journalism from within Gaza and the amount of disinformation constantly spewed out from the IDF, I am not holding my breath. This explains a lot. https://www.972mag.com/lavender-ai-israeli-army-gaza/
  4. I am still gutted to find out that the BBC use actors instead of real Daleks and Cybermen. Realism? Pah! And as for the Tardis, why don’t they use a real Time Machine rather than a pretend one? Rubbish! Anyone would think that drama involves suspending disbelief!

They certainly have, you are right. i don’t know if this has been verified (we know that the Israelis are very distrusting of foreign journalists) but I heard an interesting interview yesterday where it was said that the IDF have certain designated “killing zones” in which, everyone that is killed is designated as Hamas be they innocent women, children, aid workers, journalists etc. I have seen a figure quoted of 9000 Hamas killed in the Gaza operation so far. If this is true, the proportion of dead so far between Hamas and non Hamas since 7th October will be even more disproportionate. At the beginning of this particular phase of the conflict many Western leaders supported the position of Israel to take defensive action within the confines of International Law. It has been very clear for some time now that Netanyahu and the IDF don’t give two hoots about International Law and the cessation of the provision of arms and munitions is well overdue. It is just appalling that the loss of 30,000 plus innocent Palestinian lives haven’t brought us to this point, but 3 British lives now have. https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/04/israeli-military-likely-knew-identities-of-aid-workers-killed-in-charity-convoy-humanitarian-groups-say And before the 6th formers kick off again, yes Israel had every right to defend itself against terrorists organisations. They don’t have the right to wage war on the civilian populations of Gaza and the West Bank. Has Sunak got the balls to do what is unquestionably morally right? Probably not given his distain for any International Laws that cause the more extreme of his party to get an attack of the vapours.

More media suppression by the Israeli government . https://amp.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/01/al-jazeera-faces-security-threat-ban-after-israel-passes-new-law-benjamin-netanyahu It’s a shame that it has taken the death of 3 British aid workers for the Daily Mail and the British government to be outraged given that we are well over the figure of 30,000 dead Palestinians. Perhaps the West will stop supplying Netanyahu with arms now that it is crystal clear that the IDF aren’t fussed about who they use them on? Not that they have been particularly bothered since 7th October. For those who continue to excuse the actions of the IDF, perhaps you should just fess up and admit that the lives of innocent Palestinians are worth less than others.

Let’s just hope that aid workers, medics and journalists make sure that they are wearing clothing that identifies who they are because we wouldn’t want them to be accidentally shot would we? Oh wait. Or waving white flags and calling out that they are Israeli hostages. Netanyahu himself has said that they are going out of their way to minimise civilian casualties. Tell that to the 30,000 + already murdered. Whoops. Accidents happen. As for wide open spaces, the way they are levelling Gaza it will soon be a wide open space so they will get their wish. Your comment makes you sound like Duckhunter. Well done.

Sadly yet another in a very long line of “collateral damage” reports. It started on 7th October when the IDF indiscriminately fired on their own as well as Hamas. Nearly 100 journalists have been killed along with the tens of thousands of innocent civilians locked in Gaza. Still no end in sight of this daily massacre by a gung-ho military led by a government intent of the ethic cleansing of Gaza.

  10. There have been some classics over the years - the Panorama report on the Italian spaghetti harvest, The Guardian’s travel feature on the San Serriffe islands, the report that Big Ben was to go digital… The trouble is now there are so many ridiculous things happening in the world it feels like every day is an April Fool’s prank 😉
  11. There’s a hilarious spoof on the front page of The Guardian saying how the Tories non dom plan could save Sunak’s family £250m. Oh wait….

  13. We pretty much used it as “just a trading block”. If you are a member of a large trading block there are various rules and regulations. The trouble was that a certain section of people thought we ought to have the best of both worlds. It could be argued that we now have the worst of all worlds given the state of our fishing, farming and manufacturing industries post Brexit. Still, at least we got our country back. The only surprise in 2024 is that there are still some people who believe that Brexit was a good idea and would bring us so much more than we already had. This one’s for you Duckie 😂
  14. Murdoch is no mug and can tell which way the wind is blowing. No surprises that he will start cozying up to Starmer as he will be concerned about Labour bringing in policies that will lead to the breakup of his media empire in the UK. With Reform looking like they could mop up the dissatisfied Tory voters too it isn’t looking good for Sunak or the right in general when it comes to bums on seats at Westminster.

  17. Absolutely! Anyway, I posted this here because I thought we had discussed his winning the by-election on this thread as part of a discussion about the current democratic process and choices. His comments have more to do with the state of political discourse and standard of politicians here than a hare-brained conspiracy theory.

  19. Absolutely. The whole thing was designed to resonate with the flag shaggers and xenophobes. We retained our monarchy. We retained our democratically elected government. We elected Euro MPs and we held a veto so were never going to be railroaded into anything we weren’t happy with. We also managed to keep hold of our currency and retain a “special” status despite being no more special than the likes of France, Germany, Italy and the rest of the EU. We have lost far more than we have gained, not least our standing in the world. The only upside in this situation is that those who spouted the lies are a busted flush and those who continue to support them are gradually dying out. I wonder if they actually realise yet that the straight banana thing was bollocks (along with every other lie we were fed)?

  21. The important point is that if there were another vote today the result would be reversed.
  22. As is Nick Ferrari, Iain Dale, Tom Swarbrick and several others with strong links to the Tories. But as has been pointed out, the rules that have been broken are very specific and concern a different issue than partisan presenters fronting up their own programmes. There is a reason why we don’t have Jacob Rees-Mogg or Nigel Farage as news anchors on the BBC and that has absolutely nothing to do with David Lammy presenting his own show on LBC. I appreciate that the difference might be lost on some here though. There is also the issue of, in a democracy, why we have so many media outlets controlled by those who support right wing ideologies and so few supporting opposite ideologies but I know that upsets the usual crew here so I won’t say any more on the subject for now. I know that this article will mean nothing to the crew but they can’t deny that a lot of the rhetoric that has been normalised by Tory ministers nowadays would only have been expected from far right organisations like the BNP and UKIP a few years ago. The move towards far right politics across Europe is also very evident. https://blogs.lse.ac.uk/politicsandpolicy/the-changing-face-of-the-british-far-right/ https://www.politico.eu/article/brussels-braces-for-far-right-wave-as-eu-election-looms/
  23. I don’t watch it so I am no expert on its content. I do see numerous items from it on my news feed daily and many of those fall into what I would describe as far right in their content. A number of the people it employs or have employed are people who most people ((apart from Duckhunter) hold far right views. I don’t know why you are getting so worked up about it. It is just an opinion. The most important issue here is that it has already been found to be breaking broadcasting rules with a number of outstanding allegations of rule breaking still to be considered. The usual suspects who jump all over any criticism of anything remotely right of centre are already brandishing their pitchforks. Good for you if you feel that you need to join them. The simple fact is that the current Tory Party is considered by many people better versed to judge these things than you or I to have lurched a long way to the right and GB News is a station that promotes those values daily. The degrees to which the Tory Party and the content of GB News are beyond centre right ideology is open to interpretation but it is fair to say if Nigel Farage is a big player then that is an fair indicator of where they are. I think most reasonable people would consider UKIP as far right so this also is a good indicator of where we are now. https://yougov.co.uk/politics/articles/48322-tories-now-seen-as-being-as-right-wing-as-2014-16-era-ukip
  24. Many political commentators are of the opinion that this current Tory Party are “far right”. GB News is very skewed in it support of the Tory Party. Many of the people who are employed by GB News carry views which many would consider to be “far right” in political parlance. The items that flood news feeds from the GB News platform are invariable well right of whatever normal people would consider Tory centre right politics. Nigel Farage, one of the most obvious cheerleaders for far right policies is one of the major poster boys of GB News. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck… I would also imagine that the people it appeals to take to social media to call any who dare to call it out for what it is a “helmet”. By the way, I referred to it as “far right” to differentiate it from any kind of connection to more reasonable kind of Conservatism. I know it is hard to remember what centre right Tories were like as they seem to have disappeared and been replaced by the Lee Anderson, Rees-Mogg, Suella Braverman, Kemi Badenoch ultra nationalist, immigrant hating flag shaggers. Didn’t they employ that notorious wokey hater 😂 Lawrence Fox too for a while? No “far right” vibes there either eh? It will be interesting to see what kind of coverage (promotion) GB News gives to Reform in the forthcoming election. It bases itself on Fox News so that should be a giveaway. If you still aren’t convinced it was too much even for Andrew Neil!!
